    I am male and have seen Lolita's out and about. Most looked fantastic but, I was afraid to give a compliment because I am not informed enough about the culture and didn't want to seem pervy.

      Another guy, here. "I like your coord!" Is a good go-to. It keeps attention on the style & creativity so it doesn't come off creepy. (It also shows that you're informed enough to be aware of common terms.)

    We should be free to be who we are, especially in something as unimportant (-in the really big picture) as fashion. -fact of the matter is not very down deep, people are very, very conformist! I was in a pedestrian plaza in a seaport town and three Lolitas passed by going shopping: nobody said anything, but they certainly turned heads!

    Thanks for this video! I love for people to have lovely human interactions in lolita, but if we give space to those (lucky) voices only, we paint a very unrealistic, very one-sided picture. Wearing lolita in public is a cost vs benefit equation, and a positive outcome is not a given. I greatly varies depending on the area, the country and the surroundings of that specific individual.

    Oh my god what's the name of the 2002 dress? My god I wished lolita would go back to its old school trends sometimes, even just for a bit... I know we have re-releases here and there but even the cuts and material used are more modern.

    The most negative experience I’ve ever had was, right after the first (and only) meet I ever went to, I was walking back to my car and I ignored a guy asking me questions. He decided to grab my arm and make me stop so he could ask me what I was wearing. I told him I was wearing “none of his business” and wrenched my arm away. (That’s not why I don’t go to meets though, I’m just lazy!)

    I've been lucky in that most of my bad experiences wearing lolita have been very mild. I have been followed, yelled at, mocked and a combination of all three once. But I love the fashion and love wearing it, and every time a little girl comes up to me and calls me a princess it warms my heart. I have had others worry about me though because of these negative interactions. (my mother wants me to buy a parasol purely for self defense) But at the end of the day i wear my clothes for me and that's what matters.

    I imagine I'd get stuff thrown at me if I wore lolita in public. Depends on where you wear it. But I did get called Heidi (as in Heidi from the mountains) once at a movie theater. And some nasty stares. Someone did say they knew what lolita fashion was and that even went to Japan.

    A very nice and entertaining video! Love your coord. I only wear lolita once a month, but I’d say I wear something called normie goth most other times. I guess I’m sorta used to strange looks! This random guy called me Elvira (not in a bad way), but I replied, “you don’t look like Elvira!”

    I was wearing a vintage dress once at the zoo and this little girl just went up to me and said: "you're so pretty ma'am" Her father was kind of embarassed but I don't know why, I felt great after that lol Getting my feet into lolita fashion, I enjoyed having your input on wearing it in public

    That sounds so frightening some of the things you experienced alone - I'm so sorry! I'm glad you have many positive experience that kind of help balance out the negative. But, especially the physical harassments - just really disgusting! I'm glad you touched on this though for people who never tried wearing alt fashions in public though - not that they need the "pep talk" however I think the way you explained it was perfect! If you love the fashion , it doesn't matter! Just stay safe and have fun :)

    Uhhh that one man’s comment... wtf? Most of my negative experiences are from men. Women mostly give me compliments and tell me I look gorgeous/like a princess. I’ve even run into people who know what lolita is and say “look! It’s a lolita! So cute!” And that makes me feel great ☺️

    • @tohrurikku
      @tohrurikku 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      After reading your comment I realized that the majority of the negative, abrasive, or weird comments I get while I am in public usually comes from men. I never realized it. I guess I have been trying to suppress the negativeness after it happens. I do not understand why they think it is their duty to go out of their way to say or do anything. I do not even have to be wearing anything weird for someone to say something, it could be as simple as riding a bike down the street and I hear young men making rude comments about my weight and how I should not be riding a bike. Is a power thing? Or maybe when women were children they were more likely to be told to never say anything negative to a strangers face and men were taught to confront differences?

    Loving all the Ivory!😍 Also thank you for bringing up this topic. There aren't many that do talk about general reactions from the public and it's nice to hear about other lolitas experiences. Your totally right though that loving what you wear is so crucial, nothing else really seems to matter when u love it that much.💕

    I doubt there are many lolitas who wear lolita fashion for the attention. And yet many people who have a problem with people who wear alternative fashion use the argument "you're just wearing it to get attention". I wish I would get no attention wearing lolita fashion in public. My worst experience wearing lolita fashion; I got shouted at and threatened. My worst experience wearing gothic fashion was that I got rubbish thrown at me. My best experience wearing lolita fashion; aside from just liking what I looked like in the mirror, there this moment when I was going to school (in black old school btssb, including a whole bonnet) and waiting at the bus station and this alternative looking woman approached me and she said something along the lines of "I think it's so cool you're wearing this in public, you look amazing".

  • @chizukekihime
    @chizukekihime 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    me: walking home from work wearing an old school floral jsk and a mob cap; forgot umbrella, drenched men who stand around at a gas station drinking beer all day every day (no really they are always there): HEYYYY BARBIE GIRL *WOLF WHISTLING* what Barbie has ever worn a mob cap and a grandma couch floral you absolute buffoons? But for real though this video is very good and realistic and thank you for making it. I understand that a lot of people, especially newbies these days, want to wear the fashion but are "scared" to, but when I see folks like that I gotta be realistic with them. You WILL have bad experiences. Awful experiences. You will be harangued and harassed every step of your commute while wearing lolita. If they're not being dicks, they're stopping you for pics or to compliment you or ask where you get your clothes, and while those are fine it is still exhausting. It still takes time out of your trip. Especially if you're already tired and stressed, and now you have to put on the metaphorical monkey hat and smile and dance for the nice people to keep the interaction pleasant when all you want is to be left alone like every other person walking down the street so you can get from Point A to Point B. And then you get to your destination and it doesn't stop. You can be with friends who ARE lolitas, you can be with friends who AREN'T. You can be grocery shopping alone. The comments, nice or not, do not stop. Ever. And if that kind of thing terrifies you, if you can't deal with that kind of stress or with that many strangers, then lolita isn't for you. At least not yet. I don't like it when people sugarcoat it for newbies like "Oh it's not all that bad!" and "You'll get used to it don't worry" bc while that is true I don't think it does a proper job of warning newbies of what it's ACTUALLY like, what they ACTUALLY need to expect, so on and so forth. 😮‍💨

  • @EmbroideredDoll
    @EmbroideredDoll 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's definitely worth it for me! I don't notice too many negative reactions, but maybe that's because I mostly wear lolita in my nearest city which seems a lot more accepting than the towns around here. It does seem to balance out, it seems like at every meet where someone says or does something negative, there's also always a couple of people approaching the group to compliment us.
