We only have the sc but it cruises fine at 80
afraid? the speed limit honda employees have to drive to get to work is 75mph so ur fine....i live where these were made
this comment is wild
It's really too bad that a guy new to EVs gets a Bolt for his first EV experience. Almost every other EV sold in America is WAY better at charging speed, comfort, and comfort. A lot of them will get 80% in 20 min. My Ford F150 Lightning has a 320 mile range and is very comfortable driving 75mph all day
I'll make sure to rent a Tesla one day soon just to balance out the experience
My father just completed a cross country trip, (NC to WA), about 10 months ago in his 2005 Element. He loved that thing, and it served him well. He ended up staying in Olympia. Sadly, he just passed this week. I plan on keeping the Element, everytime I look at it I think about him.
Wholesome story. Definitely keep it!
My 08 E has 214000 miles and rolls out real hard! Easily mob at 80 mph, mixed driving 21 mpg with larger than stock beefy tires
jealous
This is the issue when rental companies force an EV on inexperienced drivers of EVs. Someone with experience would've used ABRP and PlugShare to plan their route. 2 stops, 1 hour each for this EV, 130ish miles between stops, the trip would've been around 7 1/2ish hours.
Absolutely the issue. A bit of a learning curve for a same-day take
The Bolt is not low range, its 250 which is fine, but the charge rate is terrible. You are also going to all L2 chargers and not DCFast chargers which I know there are along that route. The route planning was terrible. There are DCFast chargers on your route you could have stopped at the EA in Quartzite and then in Palm Desert and gotten to your destination. Charging time in the Bolt though would add almost 2 hours to the trip. I am not sure if you used the in-car route planning or what but this partially a lack of knowledge of EV usage. In a Tesla, even the cheapest Model 3 you put in your destination, and it routes you. Stops are about 20 minutes. You are right though; they should not have given you that vehicle for that trip.
It's 250 city MAYBE it's less than 200 GUARANTEED highway thanks :)
what a nightmare you got stuck with in all that heat. i am surprised you made it as fast as you did. just think if you got to the 2 chargers and there was a line of 4 cars waiting to use them, or they were out of order. or if the batteries caught fire. it takes 5 hours and 500 gallons of water to put the fire out on those lithium ion batteries. on the plus side it was a real world education, you saved money, and it made for good content.
Battery fires are so scary, I agree. Out west is already on high alert for so many other heat/fire issues
Is there any reason why he is using AC charging for most of charging instead of DC changing which would have been a lot faster, not as fast as Tesla or Mach-e but still 50 kw a lot better than the 6 at those level 2 chargepoints.
he used whatever was along the route every 60-100 miles. I encourage you to check locations between phoenix and los angeles and see what the situation is for non-tesla charging
@@TrustyDigitalMedia Yeah that sounds rough I know there are some places with very few chargers but had no idea some highways were still really bad for non Tesla, no wonder GM owners are crying out for access to the Supercharger network which should happen in the next few weeks hopefully.
You are insane. This is why people give EV's a bad rap. Having done this exact trip in my Ford Mach-e, there are no issues. Just use apps like A Better Route Planner and PlugShare. This is the same as planning out your gasoline (or diesel) fill up.
Does your vehicle charge at 55 max?
@@TrustyDigitalMedia Um, no. I rarely public charge, but know that I've seen 150 kW at times. I looked at the last time I public charged about two weeks ago. I was shopping and went from 65% to 96% in 20 minutes.
@@KaiPonte this car caps at 50 max so there's no such thing as fast charging this vehicle....
@@TrustyDigitalMedia that *is* fast charging. I typically charge my Mach-e at 1 kW at home or maybe up to 60 on the rare occasions that I go to public DC fast charging.
You should not drive any EV without doing research! Clearly you did zero research. I have 4 EV’s, 3 are TESLA and a Chevy BOLT. I have absolutely no issues driving anywhere I want. The BOLT you were driving has a 60 KW battery pack not certain what is usable. You should have chosen 50 KW fast charger. That means if you were to charge for one hour the charger would or should deliver 50 KW. It should have taken no longer than 45 min to go from 0% to 85%.
Always amazed when people buy any vehicle and don't check the underbody RUST & this one was EPIC
@@artsteadman2230 maybe this person knew it would only last a few months ;)
@@TrustyDigitalMedia-even if true, who the hell would still buy this? Live and learn. Bend over…the guy that sold this vehicle must have been smiling ear to ear after you drove off. Bye, enjoy…

2006 EX 4WD with 283k+ on it. Unless it’s completely trashed it’s worth it. Almost everything can be done with a simple set of sockets, channel locks, and screwdrivers. With maintenance these things run almost damn near forever.
Also I’ve never had any vibration or noise above 60 mph.
Probably might need a lift to get some of it done.
I'm 5 minutes in, and I'm still really confused by what you're attempting to demonstrate, say, show, etc. Perhaps rather than trying to start with drama and intrigue, you could explain the situation, your goals, expectations, why you rented an all-electric car to drive from Tucson to Burbank, etc. I obviously would have no issue renting a Bolt EV and driving it from Tucson to Burbank, and I'd likely make the trip faster than many people who would make that trip in a gas car. But I know what I'm doing and what I'm getting into, whereas you seem completely new to EVs?

As an EV enthusiast, I think Teslas is the only viable option at this point. The infrastructure sucks ass for long distance driving. The chargers often don’t work. This is not my experience with Tesla Superchargers though. But bro - you’re WAY overdoing it. LED lights and your phone isn’t going to make a big difference. It’s just rounding error.
@@TCPUDPATM I’d totally agree. Having a Tesla seems very comfortable and having a low watt charge vehicle like this seems to only belong in a city with fast chargers at the ready
Yeah, having the NACS adapter for my Mach-e makes road tripping way easier.
As a Tesla owner I agree, those cars tell you exactly where to stop when planning trips and have a lot more chargers.

wtf would anybody with two brain cells want to torture themselves like this?
@@emilcost8613 sounds like you have extra to give smart boy
It really feels like you sought out the worst possible experience here. Even in a Bolt, you could've realistically charged 10x as fast by going to DC fast chargers rather than level 2 stations. Was definitely crappy of Dollar to give you a Bolt for a long road trip, though.
Or he could just rent a normal car with an engine and not bother with the EV nonsense. He's demonstrating exactly how it would be in the real world. Not all chargers are fast charges, not all of the chargers are available. Charging times are ridiculous. No one wants to hear one time in the perfect climate with a three phase outlet you charged to 100% in a hour. Its trash. there is no engine noise, no transmission to shift the entire automobile experience is destroyed with an EV. I mean you idiots even want it to drive itself. You don't want a car you want a subway but you don't want to live with black people.
@@avenger7875a I went where the app said there were charging stations after Phoenix. Didn’t seem obvious to me there was a fast charger before where I found the one I did. Again, this shows the expertise of people that DONT USE EVS ON A DAILY BASIS AND HAVE A DAY TO FIGURE THEM OUT WHEN RENTING A CAR
Yeah, they shouldn't have given you that car for a road trip. One of the worst for that. Maybe a Nissan Leaf would be worse.
@@kenastl just read an article about how EVs aren’t being sold either. No one wants to use them. Makes sense they gave it to me

@@AV1978AZ does Mach-e charge at 50 max?
ha ha you bought a mach-e!!!
@@TrustyDigitalMedia Exactly, the Mach-e is a much more capable vehicle when it comes to charging speed, the bolt is the worst, it's only benefit is that it's super cheap.
So you rented an EV, did zero research, charged on level 2 and we should be surprised that you're unhappy? You could have rented a gas car and tried to fill it with corn syrup too. Would have been just as dumb. Level 2 is for overnight charging.
I was thinking the same thing... He rented an EV and pretty does everything you're not suppose to do that would could have been avoided with watching 1-2 TH-cam videos with Tips/Tricks. I mean, the irony that he's a TH-cam content creator.
There are many other reasons EVs suck. No manual transmission, hours to charge (that's reality only in very very rare circumstances and at additional cost do you charge quickly and it still will NEVER be as fast as me filling my tank. There is no engine noise, rumble a Hemi is a real engine men drive real cars big V8s they are lying to you about the planet dude. If they were serious the first thing they would do is make everyone travel by train and boat. We would end air travel or at the very least PRIVATE PLANES would go first. Those are a luxury a car is a necessity for many. A lot of people don't have off street parking and have to move their cars to alternate sides of the street. It's nice you live in a luxurious world that you can afford an EV that sucks more dick than you do.

One of the infinite bladder morons. Shame on legacy OEMS for building these POS EVs. It keeps the ignorant in the dark about how great GOOD EVs really are.
Sorry about your problems. Not clear what car you were driving. Production of the Bolt ended in 2023 and there is no 2024 model. In any case you nailed it the Bolt is not a long-range car. Max range would require you to drive between 25 and 50mph. But someone did report 220 miles at 75mph. Next time try a Tesla or at least get the adapter and try Super Charging. 6K is about a slow as you will ever find was it an extension cord from in the building?
oh damn, had no idea. Assumed every rental was same year. So, yes, 2023 Chevy Bolt, would have to py $25/day to get a gas vehicle, no tesla's from Dollar in Tucson. How do you mean extension cord?
@@TrustyDigitalMedia 6kW is about what you would get if the charge point was connected to you house wiring. W=EI so 120V x 15A = 1.8kW or 240V x 40A = 8.8 kW. The actual charging current is usually a bit lower than the circuit rating. Tesla's trip planner generally sets up charging stops based on the starting charge and running the battery down to about 20%. Intermediate charging tries to balance recharging time and the number of stops needed. That is recharges are not to 100% because the last stage of charging is slow and the first stages are much faster. I didn't know any of this when drove a Tesla from Reno to the Bay Area. The car was at a place with Tesla wall charger and 60A charging so I charged it to 100% overnight and stayed as much as possible in the two slower lanes on the drive. I arrived with an ample reserve. Just for fun I plotted a trip to Death Valley (500 miles one way). The Tesla app showed suggested several charging stops. But it would be possible I think to do it with one stop. However there are no Supercharges in DVNP. There are chargers at Furnace Creek for guests at the Inn, but they may not be fast chargers. You can check in but you can't check out? Clearly long trips in an EV require a bit more planning than the old gas buggy does.
