They can't afford to build em' that way anymore ,good sound ,good looks , good steel, and aggressive response. Now you get em' cheap, ugly, and with sponge controls with a computer virus and don't forget big bubble in the back to hide the smog shit , they look like a balloon i say.
@Andrew Crews Drain the pump drive to see if any debris is in the oil then fill the pump drive to the hash marks on the dip stick with diesel engine oil 15/40 check it at least every few days when working . Check cap on fill pipe replace if damaged , buy good oil keep it clean. the noise may stop. if you don't see any metal in the drain oil it should be ok
@Andrew Crews The Caterpillar service book tells you to use diesel engine oil in the pump drive / the final drives and the swing drive use the 30 or 40 weight powertrain Gear oil. nothing on that machine uses 90 weight oil. you may be able to run powertrain gear oil in the pump drive but don't run any thing heavier than a 40 weight i think they want you to use a multi weight oil in the pump drive so it won't be to heavy in the cold weather .
@Andrew Crews i used to complain about hose costs. , now i complain about the oil cost more a 55 Gallon drum of hydraulic oil doesn't go to far on big equipment CAT is getting around $ 1,100.00 for a drum.of hydraulic oil, i have been using Shell and some other good brands for oils .
@Andrew Crews Its worth it i change out the whole( joy stick )pilot control units when they finally start to leak. around $900.00 for each side ,i also replace the crawl pedal seals check the plunger cylinder for scoring when you do the pedal seals replace if bad , if you let them leak to long the grit will get in and score the cylinder. then they leak again. and make shore the dust boots are in good shape to keep debris out, then you will have a nice dry floor. If you keep up with maintenance these machines will out last all others. by a long shot., and they look and sound good. Its a real Cat. The real McCoy
