@@ultra5374 After 50 years of experience with hifi gear, my advice is: keep the chain between source and speakers as short as possible. Every piece used has its distortions and limititations. Wich means: source>integrated amp>speakers. That's it. No Dac, no pre amplifier, nothinh. But... don't econonmize on these three items. Spend some money on them, and leave all the rest in the shop. I play my music through a Mac Mini, a McIntosh MA7000 and JBL studio monitors 4429. Nothing else needed, believe me.

Sam Rankin-Hirst: A smart-phone isn't much use when you're out of range of any cell-towers.

@@paganphil100 Coverage maybe a downside at present for smartphones, but that doesnt change the low level of dated techonolgy in the gps units functionality in comparison. Once satellite cellphone coverage, for example Starlink, becomes available, what benefit would a GPS have over smartphones then?

These top 5 things are silly, but the 6000A is definitely not crap. I'm listening to one right now in my living room and the sound is beautiful and lifelike.

@@billbryant1288 I got one too! An Audiolab 6000A! I build point source speakers as a hobby. I have a few sets of speakers with a semi open single driver full range driver (half out of the box) with added woofer. But now I am working on some big speakers with 8" coaxial drivers plus woofer, semi open coaxial drivers to make even more holographic sound (with point source full treble response sound). Coaxials give a superior sound image to normal 2-ways (at least I can hear the difference)! The Audiolab bursted out with engagement when I connected it to the coaxial speaker (compared to a single driver speaker). And a 10" woofer as well on my coaxial speaker in a big box (with a BIG sound). There seems to be no limit how amazing a speaker can improve when tinkering the speaker with this amp. How good can a speaker sound with this amp? And I only have one coaxial speaker going (as yet) and it by itself sounds more "stereo" than any 2 normal speakers in stereo (like my B&W 706 reference monitors) (that I still need for basic "authority"). I don't have sound proof rooms and oscilloscopes. The B&Ws are a great help and they got me going with seriously building speakers (even if mine smoke 'em). They made my speakers sound better than the B&Ws by my copying them and then slightly changing the sound of my made speakers a little bit (too my taste). The B&Ws lack "chuff" in the voice sound (I reckon) and they are "normal" 2-ways. I bought "normal" 2 ways on purpose to not sound as good as coaxials so I can sell my speakers (by comparing them to the B&Ws). And "normal" 2-ways won't affect the frequency response for reference so they are fine for that. Also the price of my speakers will be lower the then the B&W's price. A "better" sound @ a lower price and a bigger speaker.

You might find a good used amp in good condition at a price that you can afford. I recommend Behringer's KXD 15 with its 15" woofer. I'm just a keyboardist, not an expert or a salesperson. Happy hunting!
