Catskills Highest Peak - Slide Mountain - 4,180 Feet - Shandaken New York Day Hike Before A Storm
มุมมอง 3216 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I hike to the highest peak in the Catskills: Slide Mountain. The elevation at the top is 4,180 feet. The total gain from the parking lot is approximately 1,680 feet. I saw a lot of beautiful scenery, but not the full view of the mountain range due to the cloud cover. That just means I'll have to come back at some point! If you are hiking this trail anytime in the snowy season, do ...

First Ever Bow Drill Friction Fire - Nearly Lost It (ASMR Wood Carving)
Great review! I've been going back and forth between Nammatj, Nallo and Kaitum. As a fairly tall guy this really turns me to Kaitum as height on the feet end appears adequate which appears not being the case with all others.
Thank you! Yes, I believe the slope of the other two options will result in your feet touching the fabric and this really isn't good for several reasons. (If you're over, say, 6 ft / 183cm)
I love Topo shoes!
Ultraventure? Terraventure?
Really good, detailed look at that tent. You deserve more views!
That's very kind of you, thanks so much! Hope it helps people.
SUNKLANDS has sasquatch. not kidding. They saw you and knew you were there. You did not see them. :-)
🦍 Very interesting :) Thank you for watching!
I tout on a lot of these videos about the Guardian. Just a bomber purifier that also removes sediment and micro plastics with the two stage filter, bacteria, protozoa, and all viruses larger than. 01 microns in size which is basically all. It's a little heavy at 14 oz but if speed and thoroughness of purification is a priority, all day pump that trigger. Couldn't be more impressed with a system, top 3 fav items in my kit.
Thank you very much for watching! My virus solution is Katadyn Micropur tablets and I have occasionally used them when it was clear the lay of the land indicated likely contamination. I think when traveling in very rough places, the Guardian would be the way to go.
@@IntegratingCarbon Viable solution. I hike with multiple people in my party so it didn't really make sense to carry one filter and if I had to carry a few Sawyers plus dirty bags and water storage then the weight was nearing on the weight of the Guardian. So for expediency and efficiency sake it just made sense not to opt for the trite and true Sawyer. Super dialed-in kit you got there by the way. I'm gradually reducing the amount of accoutrements I take and videos like these fill me with ideas. Thanks for sharing
Yes, great point, if you have a lot of people a pump starts to become the efficient choice! Glad to know the video could give some inspiration.
Nice video brother. Informative.
Thank ya very much, appreciate the feedback.
apparently the improved bivy waterproof cover suffers from severe water leaking,is this true?
Not in my experience, the bivy kept me dry from a good deal of rain on this trip. At least two prolonged storms came through that night. Now, the conditions were such that I had some internal condensation that wetted inside but that would be true for any bivy closed up. PTFE just can't breathe out through the membrane at 100% humidity. But of course a bivy is a hasty shelter not really intended to do what a tent does. Additionally, the construction quality of the bivy is VERY good. Thanks for watching!
This looks marvelous my friend. Such a lovely short
Thank you so much, very kind of you!
Just as God intended BEAUTIFUL thankyou🙏
🙌🙏
Why did you choose the Kaitum GT over the Nallo GT?
Great question, it's because the Nallo has the sloped foot end, which is not good for taller people. After accounting for sleeping pad thickness and height of the sleeping bag, there will be contact and compression against the sloped wall. The Kaitum maintains the tunnel shape, so therefore the wall at the foot end is vertical and avoids those problems.
There seems to be different trails up slide.. which one is this ? Asking because I plan on doing this hike soon !
This is going up the Burroughs-Wittenberg-Cornell side. Thanks for watching!
I loved watching this!
Thank you so much!
I would have liked to spend another night and showcase the tent some more, especially in rain! But it was just a little too extreme with hail and tornadoes on the radar. Let me know if you'd enjoy more trips along these lines! Thanks for watching.
Yes, that, and also a video on how you pack up the tent and dry it out. Also, did the guylines/tie-outs come pre-attached and ready to use, or did you have to attach them all yourselves. If the latter, a video on doing that would be helpful. Thanks for this video!
Thanks so much for the feedback. I'll keep that in mind about packing and drying. For now I can say that for me the best way to dry and clean the tent is to keep the poles installed and then hang it upside down, attaching to the staking points at both ends (the metal rings). I do this in my basement, and I use hooks attached to the floor joists. This way I can stretch the tent out and run a fan/dehumidifier and easily reach all areas for any cleaning necessary. Partially unzip everything to maintain structure but permit airflow. I purchased this tent used, so I can't be sure if the guylines were already attached. However, it seems like they were because everything is so uniform. I'm sure Hilleberg could answer that question quickly.
Yo balls nice🎉
Another incredible time out in the woods! Let me know your thoughts below. 🍻
Enjoyed the video!! Keep up the most pleasant work!
That means so much to me, thank you, and will do!
Nice area for sure, watch out for bears I wouldn't go without my heeler to guard the camp while I sleep.
That's a good plan, I wish I had a dog for that!
If you're napping in the wilderness, you're comfortable 👍
That's right!
Keep on doing content. I live vicariously through your videos.
I really appreciate that, I'm happy I can do that for you and others.
Them caves have healing crystals in them. Beings too.

Hi I really love your show you do a Beautiful job doing the house 🏠
That's so kind, thank you very much for watching!
I do european mounts and look a lot of them. That is a very very mature doe. Old enough I'd say natural causes probably killed it.
That's really cool to know, how old would that probably be?
@@IntegratingCarbon id really have to see it in person man. But what I call mature is 4 1/2 years +.. but it could of been a 10 year old deer they usually don't get older than that. The only fairly accurate way to judge age is by the teeth on the lower jaw.
Ah yeah, and everything else was gone! Curious about that too, whether the skeleton got dragged off or the other way around.
@@IntegratingCarbon coyote or fox probably carried to where you found it. On younger deer the nose bones are fragile and the entire nose would have been gone. they just chem them off. That one is just missing the top.
Really fascinating forensics, thank you!
What's the point?
Pretty remote where this was abandoned at, just a bit of humor. 😉
@@IntegratingCarbon I'm still not into it. But, thank you for your reply and explanation. May you and yours stay well and prosper.
You as well. 🙂
Has a cozy , home type of feelin.
Definitely, definitely. Beautiful to see the way the hills mesh together into the creek bottoms.
@@IntegratingCarbon I have a problem of running into several awesome places that I want to camp at along a hike but, cant make up my mind 😆 You ever have that problem?
Sometimes yes, though I'm so often planning ahead that I tend to already know. But this time it was tempting to stay near!
Better than Starbucks 👍
💯
A female deer
Awesome, thank you for the confirmation. I've never seen their teeth up close and wow they look aggressive.
I am a Taxidermist and have seen many skulls from all over the world
Excellent--what is your most interesting or favorite?
I think you had a Bigfoot encounter, bro!! 😉😉 veeery intriguing “dream” you had there. A lucid dream is when you are aware you are dreaming and can control what you do. And sleep paralysis does occur right upon waking but generally people feel absolute terror, but you felt reassured… so I’m not sure it falls under either category 🤔 fun mystery!
Hehehe. Well, that's interesting, thanks for the clarification, I'll have to look into it more! Maybe next time I should sleep with a trail cam on me...or Claymore mines 😹. Thanks for stopping by!
Paint it , put name and date and leave it on a tree on the trail 👍 Bush crafts 😂
Haha, love that idea
Oh, that's definitely man bear pig! It's a very rare discovery! Once in a lifetime, I'm super cereal
Guess I filled my quota 😛
Deer most likely? Hunter friends let me know.
Thank you all for watching and please enjoy, there is a lot of great scenery and I really enjoyed this trip. 🏕️

❤❤❤
Thank you!
The comfort in the cold is definitely worth the extra weight 👍
And I hope there's a little more true winter left to test it fully.
@@IntegratingCarbon Missouri River area in Northern Missouri holds some pretty good cold temps . Lots of places to get lost on purpose 👍
Thanks, I appreciate that
Goty
What's that now?
If you put that 4lbs of water weight closer to your back/shoulders it’ll feel a whole lot better
😎
What part of Missouri are you in I live in Missouri also
Awesome, we have a LOT of great natural areas here. This is in Mark Twain National Forest. Thank you for watching!
I am close to the lebanon area
Excellent, there's a lot of good land out that way!
❤
👏👏👏
Thank ya
Keep it in sleeping back with you
Yes and might as well boil it and put it in a Nalgene for some extra warmth! (see other Short) Thanks for commenting and watching! 🤙
Fire maybe? Or just go eat some snow. Are you camping or "camping"?
given he's in a tent without a bottom I'd say he's probably backpack camping. and no, dont eat snow in a situation like this. that can plumett your core body temp and it's still water falling through the atmosphere collecting pollution particulates. it's still gotta be melted down and boiled b4 it's "safe". a fire is almost necessary if this were a survival situation.
This is in the middle of the woods. 1L boiled water in a nalgene in a Ziploc bag to keep feet warm overnight is the starter. Then 1L already in the titanium pot on the liquid fuel stove ready to heat. Then this with some space left to pour in warm water. Thus the multiple tiers of water without having to sleep with too much of it hehe. This just shows the "risk" if all you did was leave it out! Thanks for commenting and watching! 🤙
Awesome! What are the specs?
72/76 res, 31.5/29.5 snr, .74/.72 halo
Aint nothin better than a good piece of hickory😂
Ain't that the truth!
I see a potentially nice tree in the background for a monkey rope..We had a small cabin on Salt river in Kentucky when we were kids and spend many hours swing off a rope into the river! We were super strong swimmers. Salt river was the first river I ever swam across and back at the age of 9.. man that water was ice cold that day I shiver just thinking about it. Endless memories of adventures and fun we had as kids now I enjoy watching our children enjoying the outdoor adventures!
That's a fantastic story, thank you for sharing. And thank you for watching! Swing by and see if you like any of the adventures I've posted. More to come, too. :)
