If you're wondering where he suggests placing the dots, skip to 3:28. To translate this in terms of electric bass fret positions: dots at "frets" 1 and 3, placed on the side of the fingerboard, and 5, 7 and 9 placed between the E and A strings. For thumb position: at "frets" 12, 16, 19 and 24, placed between the D and G strings. (I omitted the next 2, too high for my fingerboard, but they are at the B and D on the G string.) (The lower dots are the same as an electric bass. The upper dots are not.)

THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! :D My best all friends play, and I shared this with all my Bass playing friends! :D

I use small dots of elmer's white glue. It dries clear, is totally harmless, and is removable. They also have a slight tactile element, and you can dot small enough to be very precise. Of course, depending on your bridge height and weather adjustments, the note placement can vary slightly, which is why removable dots are really important. I don't think inlays are a great solution for that reason. I use dots on basically where you put them (in the middle between the G and D strings), and only on the octave, 13th (8va+5th), and double-octave. So on the G string, it's octave G, D above that, and G above that.

Love this exercise! Whenever I practice this one I tend to start at the pitch, go below, and come back. What are your thoughts on this type of concept?
