Thumbs down right away!!! What's with you and that stupid music? I can't listen to you and that thumpy, annoying, nerve-rattling music at the same time. I get wired having to listen to it. Why do you feel a need for music in a technical learning environment? If I turn down the volume to escape that music, then I can't hear you, so as a learning tool this video is useless. It's bad enough that you talk too fast, but your voice is unclear at times and you sound like you're in a hurry. This is not a helpful learning video. You should take this video down or insert captions or upload music videos instead.

Icing rarely is more than 5,000 feet thick (adiabatic lapse rate), so climbing is always an option unless you are underpowered, and/or in mountainous terrain and in the upslope of the winds aloft in which case the icing will follow you upwards, What ever you do, even in a jet aircraft with hot wings, get out of it and/or reverse course...descending isn't always an option and boots are virtually worthless. Trust me, I survived years of mountain flying in small airplanes in the Northwest, Alaska, and 40 years in the biggest jets made, All-in-all you are fairly accurate.
Excellent video. Thank you! Great pace and clear explanations. Would love to see more like this!
So do not adjust mixture during a climb from say 0 to 8,000 feet since not level flight? Not sure that is right. We will lose power during the higher portion of the climb
only lean the mixture during cruise, use full rich during climb/take-off
@@taiwanisacountry3117 what about descent?
@@phan5302 you'd probably best of riching the mixture if you're descending for landing as you're really risking carb ice building up with low power (for the descent). one of the prelanding checks it to check mixture is rich (atleast for cessnas)
👍🤟🤟

You can also run on lean of peak? 😊
Really? You can't push a button to invoke an arduino controlling the mix based on air fuel ratio?
I feel like I should know more about plane engines now... did everyone else understand this?! :D
Excellent vid!! Great narration, great tempo. Step for step it is pretty much exactly how I preflight my C172, but I will admit there were 2-3 steps that I was missing and will now incorporate into my preflight thanks to this vid.
Much appreciated!
No no no! People need to stop perpetuating this nonsense! it’s been taught…. And has been wrong…. For 60 years. Exhaust gas temps have nothing to do with optimum long term engine management. If you love your engine run it low power and lean. 1) reduce power to less than 70% 2) lean until slight power loss then slight roughness is felt. 3) turn back around 1/2 turn to rich side until roughness is gone and a slight power gain is appreciated. 4) readjust periodically or with every 500-1000 foot elevation change. This will save you gas and increase your range; reduce coking of valves and rings; and reduce cam shaft wear. You can go rich for landing…. But as soon as you are safe on ground aggressively lean again for all taxi operations. This is where running rich is the most detrimental. Do the same thing when you start: ok to start rich, but then lean further all taxi operations.
Nope. This is all wrong. This is how they did it back in the day. It’s totally outdated and wrong. Wastes gas and harms the engine. This is what they teach to low time cfi’s. If you love your engine then Do this at all altitudes included flying 500’ over the beach. You flat landers love to run full rich. Don’t. Once at cruise reduce power to Less than 70%…. This will dramatically reduce wear on the engine and cost you a trivial amount of speed. Find power setting By the book if you need to or 19” manifold pressure if you have that gauge. Lean slowly until the first hint of roughness; then 1/2 turn back rich until a very slight increase in power is felt. That’s it. Readjust with any significant change in altitude; say every 500 or 1000 feet. This is the most gentle way you can run an engine; will keep your rings and valves the cleanest, retard the timing and reduce camshaft wear. It will also save about 15% of your total fuel bill per hour and increase your range by 10% or so. 800 hr 172 pilot here who loves his little plane and has flown it to every single corner of this nation and at all altitudes from 200’ below sea level to 17000 feet above it.
I apologize if you disagree with the procedure. However, we are following the POH specifications and employing the technique you specified. We lean until the first indication of a drop in RPM and then enrich the mixture to stay on the rich side. Additionally, you mentioned a setting for a constant-speed propeller. This is a Cessna 172SP model. Please check the full video in our channel for more information about this is just the short. Thank you for your input.
Thank you
You're welcome
Is the 2700 MSA around PIE VOR not shown anywhere on the FAA chart?
The FAA does not provide MSA information for use in either Standard Instrument Departures (SIDs) or for Standard Terminal Arrivals (STAR) procedures. We use this Faa doc is you are interested in more information www.faa.gov/air_traffic/flight_info/aeronav/acf/media/RDs/16-02-310_Inclusion-ofMSA-for-ODPs-SIDs_STARS.pdf
Shit, I had to watch these explanations from numerous different sources for it to finally click in my head. Thank you for contribution to my learning curve.
You lost me at :58.. How do you know the radial is "from"?
on the VOR gauge there is a white triangle pointing down, just under the CDI needle. That means "FROM".
Great explanation, straightforward to the point.
Amazing explanation, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Icing is a huge topic and very airframe dependent. No 8min video will teach you everything you need to know about it!
perfect!
The most gangster aviation icing video ever you really should make some more videos my man
very good and have a nice trip
Great video, very informative and to the point. Have my CFII checkride coming up so thank you very much!
Did you do it yet?
@thecomedypilot5894 No it kept getting postponed, I'm doing it on Tuesday, God willing.
@@JW-ji7ys Oh ok. Well good luck! I'm going to be doing my instrument rating checkride here very shortly, like in the next few days. Been studying like crazy, but I have confidence it'll go well.
@thecomedypilot5894 Do you have the Pilot's Cafe packet?
@@JW-ji7ys No I’m not familiar with that, I use Sheppard Air to help me prep for my written and check ride. Do you recommend Pilots Cafe?
But how does the lift vector change when the relative wind is forced down if aerodynamic forces always act through the center of pressure which shouldn't get near the trailing edge at high angles of attack?
Amazing video! Loved all the visuals and explanations!
thankyou

Very good video
Nice clear explanation 💯

excellent video and narration. thanks you😊

Excellent Video. Thanks! Hairband for the Pilot from me. :)
Great video and visuals!
Glad you enjoyed it
This was so helpful thanks a bunch
Glad it helped!
Dude, why aren't you making anymore (& longer) GA aviation training videos? Not sure if this video was made by you, but if it was then dude, you need to know - it was impeccable. It was short, concise and every sentence was absolutely packed with correct info. This is one of the best icing/GA flying/training videos I've ever seen. You clearly know you're shit but more importantly, you know exactly how to perfectly convey that shit. If you teach the same way you taught this video, then you're doing everyone a huggeee disservice by not making more!
We are on training right now. New videos are coming soon! Thanks for the support.
The first thing that you did was reverse sensing.. you tried to track outbound but you're going inbound the radial. So if your plane is not on the center , let's say on the right of the radial then you go onto the right if the needle displays left due to reverse sensing
Thank you so much for this brother, it's really helpful. May GOD💛 Bless you😁
