V-Strom 800DE Exhaust mod part 2
Greetings again all. I was receiving a few comments about the exhaust note being too loud, raspy, etc, etc, and I don't think the first video did a good job of capturing audio. Might have been my editing software getting in the way, or placement of the mic; not too sure. So, This one is raw--right off the GoPro Hero 7 Black, and not fancy at all. Audio was captured with external mic box from GoPro, and some Amazon special lapel/lavalier mic with a dead-cat inside my helmet.
I hope it helps!
Check out part 1 to see a little more of the how-to if you dig the sound.

Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Exhaust mod
มุมมอง 8Kปีที่แล้ว
Greetings! I wanted a little more volume from the OEM muffler on my 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE DL800 (US model). Made a short video showing what I did, how I did it, and what it sounds like. I did my best to capture decent audio. I hope it helps the vstrom community out! Enjoy! Total cost... $15 for the step-up bits and an extension at Harbor Freight if you don't own them already.
Gen3 KLR 650 Shifter fix FOR FREE
มุมมอง 274ปีที่แล้ว
Greetings all! After getting a better fitting pair of riding boots, I was still having issues getting my toe under the shifter properly. Tusk extended shifter for the KLR helps some, but boot-clearance issue was still pretty bad. Came up with this little hack-mod to move the shifter up one spline on the shaft and happy to report getting my boot under the shifter is no longer an issue! I am happ...

Honda pioneer 500 large cup holder

Modified the cup holders on my Honda P5 Pioneer 500. Adult beverage friendly. Cost around six bux!
Can I do the same with my 650 V storm 2021?? I have also watched some videos that are cutting 1 inch at the end. Which one is better option? Are you still loving that exhaust knot!!! Regards from NZ
Full exhaust and ECU tune, you gain around 10 horsepower and 6+ ft-lb torque. In my personal opinion, there's no sense doing anything but going the full way with a system and ECU flash, or simply do nothing at all. Modded factory exhaust sounds like a rusted-out leak. Tone is bad.
Is that a bag for your phone on the bars?
Definitely cleaner audio on this one. Nice work!
Hi! I am very tampted to try ot on my 800DE. Do you have any objections after all this time? How its working out?
Nice bike, not so nice sound IMO. Maybe ask for a pipe for Christmas haha.
it sounds ok, thanks for taking the time to make a video and do the research. i personally still perfer the look and sound of an aftermarket exhaust
I think it sounds great. Thank you

Saluti! I miei paramani sono di Tusk di Rocky Mountain MC/ATV. La visiera antivento è di Puig. Scusate il mio Google Traduttore!
How did you end up mounting and wiring your Garmin GPS? I picked up my DE a few days ago and am wondering what are some good mount options and routing for the wires for my GPS.
Check it out here: www.stromtrooper.com/threads/dl800-auxiliary-power-socket-location-and-switched-power-source.442856/ Power socket in front for OEM heated-grip accessory relay, and an AMZ Garmin Zumo mount-bracket for 10mm bar.
Thank you much!! @@northadventuressouth
What windshiled spoiler do you use ?
The Puig screw-on type visor. I like it a lot.
I commented in your first video as well . How did you deal with the metal shavings . As well does it sound less "airy" then the first video ?
Stuffed a rag in down past the drilling area, and used some rare earth magnets too. That did the trick for me. I think one could unbolt it & do it on the work bench tip-down to be 100% sure. Not sure about the airy question. Just ask yourself if you're happy with stock sound. If so, leave it alone. Give it a few years. OEM mufflers will start popping up on eBay for cheap. Mod a used one! I think it sounds much better than stock. Can't blame anyone for not wanting to chop on a new muffler. I would've left the Africa Twin muffler I had on it if it would've fit with my pannier racks....
What about the metal shavings ?did they fall in the exaust and is that ok ?
I used a rag and a magnet to grab the worst of it. Then a quick rev to blow out the rest. I am lazy, and wasnt worried about it TBH. Done similar mods to many other bikes over the years. Never had an issue. If you are worried about it, three bolts to drop the muffler--do it on the workbench with tip down. Gravity on your side that way! Good luck.
How is the tall windscreen with the deflector working for you? The stock windscreen is nearly useless
Agree, thought the same.... I like this setup. inexpensive for the OEM touring screen and Puig visor--and it is adjustable! I am 6'2" or so, and can see over it in full-tall setting. Put it down when under 45 or so, or on-trails and whatnot. Works great for me. FWIW--I ordered this setup long before Puig and Givi had windshields available, so check them out as well as the Suzuki touring screen.
I meant to comment on your first video about how I thought the mic was probably a issue. I have a high compression and cammed out Harley that sounds wicked in person but if I video it on my phone or something it sounds like a stock 4 wheeler almost. Literally 100% misses the sound the bike produces and I figured in your first video that was the case at least a little bit.
Thx, good comment! Yeah, been my experience too. Seems to be off one way, or the other. Blows the mic out and sounds too loud, or doesn't and sounds like a scooter. I would say the true sound, is somewhere in the middle of Part 1 and 2. IDK, hard to explain. But, definitely not loud--and a much improved sound over stock. Part 2 is closer to IRL.
LOL @ “adventure dad” Thank you!
How does it sound in real life? The video makes it sound kinda raspy and obnoxious. Is it better in person? Will my neighbors hate me? I’m considering this mod and am willing to bet it’s better in person than on video. Thank you!
I love it. Zero regrets. I was trying to grab audio outside of my helmet, thinking it would be more realistic. Didnt turn out right. Check out part 2. Think it is better. th-cam.com/video/ldvZ2V5DWP8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=86NzmDdQ5CKdEXnm
Sounds better! Het, mind letting me know which Barkbuster mounts you are using? I'm not sure which bar end bolts to use.
Thanks! They are Tusk D-Flex Pro guards, with their inch-and-one-either fat-bar mounts. Fitment is not great--I had to bend them a bit to make them what I wanted. Rotated my bars forward a tad as well.
@@northadventuressouth , gotcha! Thanks for the quick reply. I have some barkbusters on a Triumph Tiger and trying to figure out which bolt ends to use. I will have to drill my existing bar hole a bit to fit or maybe just buy all new guards. I'm such a cheap skate that way! LOL!
May I ask what are these bars you have over the exhaust?
I mean the brand

Secondo me adesso è piu vuota ai bassi giri del motore
Non mi piace l'audio in questo video dopo l'esportazione dal software di editing e il caricamento. Farò una parte 2 per ottenere una clip più realistica.
Ciao mi spieghi come hai fatto qiesto suono mi piace, hai svuotato l interno?.
ho solo fatto il buco e basta! Il contenitore principale è vuoto, oltre al deflettore e ai tubi interni. Hope Google translate works!
This is not a sound I would want to be hearing at all.. sorry bro, gotta be honest. Beautiful scooter!
Hey, is what it is. I'm not so sure I did a good job w/ this video's sound quality. Might try a part-2.
Sounds terrible after this 'modification'
Fix the typo in your title for findability, cheers!
Looks like my Lysdexia strikes again. Thx mate!
I did this last season, except I just heated the lever and pushed it into the plastic, then sanded everything smooth. I wear size 12 with the factory lever works like a charm!
Ah, the sounds of my home state. I miss it (in Iowa now). Great video. Can you give a rundown on your camera gear? subbed!
Too kind! Thank you! My gear for this was nothing special: GoPro Hero Session and Hero7 Black, and a 360Rize 360Penguin. The 360 cam was $60 from Amazon before it was discontinued. Took a chance on it to test the idea, and I like it for the price. I hope to pick up a better 360 cam with EIS soon. Next video, I should have sound problems sorted with GoPro external mic setup.
What kind of extra power curve are we talking through out the gears I'm very interested in doing this
Gear change here is like a sprocket swap on a motorcycle/dirtbike etc w/ chain drive. P500 in this model year was way too low for my liking. Taller gearing means lower RPM at same speed. Get a lot more use out of first gear this way, but not recommended with huge tires. Lots of good info out on the hondasxs forum. Good luck!
Thanks I'm not going huge tires maybe 28s I just want taller gears as well and with it being a 2015 and old I'm sure it wouldn't hurt putting some new upgraded gears in it.
@@tjreynolds6960 That's about as big as you want to go with the stock gearing unless you put portal hubs on. In the thread he mentioned the guy doing it had to downsize from 27s back to I think 24s if I remember right.
What size hole saw did you use??
3.5 inch
A year later, is there a part 3? Update?
I wish they would have geared these P5s liked the 420 or used the 420 engine they are so much fun and faster than a foreman 500

Junk, ping pong ball :) LOL Love it. I JUST bought a 2015 P500 and lost a full Capt. Morgan in a tumbler yesterday, Took a fall. That has to change! I I’m still watching your video. Check out my invention. Www.hiphuggy.com Capt. Vic
Nice job! Is that a phone mount to the left of the glove box warning label? If so, would you mind sharing where you got it? Cheers
I would love to see a part three test drive.
This mod had to of gain a good amount of top end mine is a 2018 it’s cuts out at 64klm but reads 69klm on gps with 27’s. This mod should put me around 76-78klm I would guess ??
Part 3 ? Test ride ?
When I put 30's on my p5 I'll want my low gears. 1st is great for creeping looking a sign of animals crossing trails.
Would you be interesting in doing this to my P500
Looking to buy a P500, how tall of a tire can you run without losing performance or rubbing tires? 27"? We ride the mountains of Idaho if that matters, not much mud here, but lots of loose rocky climbs and descents.
i'm going to say a 5mph diff..and if that true deff not worth all the time money hassle.
Not about the top speed. Goal is reduction in RPM at trail speed. 30mph-ish, low RPM in 3rd gear the machine is near silent. Want higher top-speed, buy a Talon ; )
I just did this mod its actually pretty simple went from 64klm bouncing off limiter to 82klm on gps on 27’s and still no sign of limiter the gears are waayy more usable and 1st 2nd is still fairly low
Good video. Why did you have to move the front diff forward? You just changed our the final drive from the crank to the transmission right? What was your speed gain? Was it worth the effort? Cheers
Really wanting a part 3 here. Did this work or what was the outcome?
Ill get a part 3 together. Thanks!
Im sitting here thinking .....Damn Dude ! ...PULL THAT MUFFLER OFF ! Get that pain in the ass outta your way first . Lol
hey love the video... Just a suggestion, if you spin your drill bit backwards when drilling plastic, it will drill a smooth hole...
Did not know that, nice tip! Capt. Vic
Is part 3 coming? Is there a before and after vid? What’s your top speed now? Etc etc
Good info Moving on to part2. Mines a 2015- I love the low but hate how I’m hitting the rev limiter at 40 mph.. down hill.... with a tail wind. 50 ish mph would great!!!!!!!!
Dat's Good thinks well done
Good vid. Fist time I see anyone on these how videos pressure wash all the dirt and mud off their rig before doing a minor or major service. Great job!
hey, thx! too much beach sand on her not to.
Mannnn I love it! Simple ingenuity. I may have to do this. The stock ones do suck. Can’t even ride around in the yard with a simple bottle of water in them without them falling out. Just read earlier today over on hondasxs.com what I will assume is your thread on these cup holders and stumbled upon the video this evening. Nice job man.
