When you rent points it solely for the stay in the resorts. At Aulani there is no theme park, unlike Walt Disney World, you will get early entry, etc. any type of perks that you would get by staying at a “Disney World resort.” But other perks, such as discounts, would only be for the DVC members. When we stayed at Aulani before even renting points and paid cash and before we were DVC members, we didn’t see a difference at Aulani other than the color of your wristband. But everybody was at the same pool in the same restaurants 🎉. The only main activity that would not be available. Is they have a once a week DVC member party…but the kids club, etc. is open to everyone
