Latin speech of Michael Reiff (age 16) - after only one year of instruction using the Polis Method
During the academic year 2023-24 at Northridge Preparatory School, Chicago, first-year Latin students (Sophomore/10th grade) learned this language with the textbook Unus, Duo, tres. Latine loquamur per scaenas et imagines.
At the end of that year, the students had learned Latin from scratch for 120 academic periods (40 minutes each) with their instructor, Guillermo Dillon.
The final test was a short speech in Latin, where the students were invited to introduce themselves in the language of Cicero.
Here is the speech of Michael Reiff (age 16).

So very beautiful. Both Dr. Rico's voice and his faith move me deeply. I'm immersing myself in it for hours for comfort and strength, and also to learn to think in Koine.

Praise Hayah, all you nations! Extol Him, all you peoples (Psalm 117:1) ! // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). ...for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2). The Messiah died on the cross, & Resurrected three days later (presenting Himself as First Fruits to the Father). Please ask Him to be your Savior. He is the ONLY way to Everlasting Life.
What a fun way to practice what you've learned 😀! I love Catan, and I'm learning Biblical Hebrew - so this just made it onto my bucket list. 💚

Wonderful! Thank you for making this available.
Thank you for the lecture! (The word "length" is misspelled onscreen in the title, at around 00:20).
How much of this can modern Hebrew speakers understand?
I understand everything as hebrew speaker, its just pronounced similar to arabic and some words are high hebrew and are not used in daily conversations
Is there online study?
He is even telling jokes! After how long could he do this?
He is giving a speech in Ancient Greek pretty fluently and that is indeed rare. Very, very well done.
The Polis institute teach Koine Greek as a living language. I'm very jealous because they achieve fluency much faster then us who learned using the grammar, translate method.
A greek version would be wonderful!
It is currently being prepared
@@PaleoalexPicturesLtdWhat's the difference between this book and the Forum lectiones one?
Teaching an ancient language like Koine Greek or Latin through direct immersion, as if it were a modern language, is a fascinating concept. It's easy to see the potential huge advantages of this approach. But I see one or two problems too. If I were training myself to think or speak in Koine Greek, for example, I would quickly need nouns like "car" or "bus" or "computer" or "phone" or "TV", etc. And I would need verbs like "download" or "recharge" or "phone somebody up", etc... For example, it seems like a real conundrum how one could say in Koine: "Yesterday I had to phone the garage because there was a problem with my car. The mechanic told me it will need a new transmission. In the meantime I will have to take the bus" This is a fairly simple run-of-the-mill scenario for a modern language. But in Ancient languages there are just big voids in the required vocabulary! So this would be a problem. One would need to invent new words. But who invents these words? Does everyone have his/her own word for "car" or "electricity"? Sometimes it might be possible to take words from Modern Greek, I guess. But how about cases where Modern Greek borrows a loan-word from English or French? Then it would get really weird. But notwithstanding this, I think it is a good thing if people try to learn an Ancient language in a practical and functional way, the same way as a modern language. But there will be real problems with vocabulary relating to our lives today. I guess folks in the ancient world had a lot of problems. But 'not being able to connect to the internet to email their friend' 'or 'forgetting to recharge their iPhone because they fell asleep in front of the TV' wasn't one of their problems!🙃
When will your Biblical Hebrew textbook be more broadly available? I am eager to see if it would be of use in my classes...
