The Perfect Fender Guitar For System Of A Down's Daron Malakian?!

I've always been a huge fan of Daron Malakian (System Of A Down, Scars On Broadway) and thought I would record a video playing some of his riffs using this Limited Edition Fender Elemental Jazzmaster. I have probably played some of these System Of A Down riffs wrong or at a different tempo so I am sorry for that! It had been a while since I had played some of these songs Daron Malakian was born...

how many weight, please
Hey mate, I can't weigh the guitar but I can say that it does feel quite lightweight and is a very well balanced instrument. Thanks
Hello Man. Great review. After watching this I'm interested in buying one of these. My only concern is if it fits heavier gauge strings. I'm using 12-62 on a daily basis and tune pretty low. Do you think there won't be any problems with such thick strings in terms of fitting them in the bridge and the end of the neck?
Hey mate, I am currently only using a 10-52 string set so I can't be 100% sure but I really can't see why not! 12-62 would more than likely fit without any modifications except for filing the nut the down to get proper string height and intonation. What tuning are you playing in?
@@darrenfrets Thx for the info! I play mostly B standard, sometimes drop A
@@DjabeuKierowca No problem, mate! I'm pretty sure the guitar should be able to handle it with no issues!
Finally a review 🎉
I was also looking for a review before purchasing the guitar but couldn't find any online. I guess they are quite a new release! Thanks for watching!
Sometimes….i go crazy!!!! 🥴
Sounds fantastic
Excellent
Thanks for checking out the review!
I tune my like a Bass VI using the Ernie Bass 20-90 set. No mods necessary. I switch between using it like a bass or a twangy, very low-tuned baritone. I've recently posted videos of it on my channel if you're curious.
I just checked out some of your videos and you really do manage to get an awesome bass tone from it!
@@darrenfrets Thanks! I really like the heavy tone you were able to get out of yours. This is quite clearly a versatile guitar.
Now i know what i want!
Daron Malakian - Angry guru.
Sounds great🤘
hey man, what string gauges do you use for drop A? At the moment I have 10-52 + 68 and still the low A string still feels to loose..
Hey mate, I'm actually using a D'Addario EXL140-8 8-String 10-74 Set without the second thickest string! Give them a try and let me know how you go!
@@darrenfrets ok that explains everything :) did you have to set the guitar up for the 74 gauge string? Nut filing, drilling bigger hole in the tuning peg etc.?
@@skupiony.na.bombie The tuning peg was fine but I did have to file the nut! But I always file the nut when changing to a larger gauge of strings.
@@darrenfrets Thanks a lot for the info. Have a great day!
@@skupiony.na.bombie Thanks! You too.
Thanks for this review. I checked TH-cam yesterday and there were no reviews. Tried again today and here you are 😁 I'm getting one of these when they become available in the UK. Only difficulty will be choosing pink or surf green. I'll use it with a Fender Mustang Micro and headphones while travelling around 👍🏻
Hey mate, I reckon it would be perfect for traveling around with that setup! It didn't come with a gig bag though but it should be easy enough to get one that fits the guitar! I am pretty sure EART have a gig bag that is made for these type of headless guitars.
@@darrenfrets I've seen a gig bag on Eart's website👍🏻
Probably my favorite tbh
Can you do drop tuning with these ? Or would the nut not work out with thicker strings ?
Hey mate, you can definitely drop tune on these. You usually have to adjust the nut when using thicker strings than what the stock guitar came equipped with! Thanks for watching!
hows the neck profile? slim tapper or modern c or u shape?
Hey mate, it's actually a Modern C to D shape. It's very comfortable to play! Thanks for watching!
Cool vid dude. I am debating the whole baritone/7/8 string guitar purchase. Nice playing.
Thanks, mate! If you are just looking to tune down and don't really need the extra strings for soloing or leads, I'd go with a baritone!
Catchy tune man. Do you mind if I ask what gauge of strings you’re using for this drop a# tuning? Do you know if your particular bridge is standard tension or high tension? Thanks man!
Hey mate, thanks for watching! So I think I was using Ernie Ball's Mammoth Slinky Set which is a set of 12-62 gauge strings. I am pretty sure these guitars come with the standard tension modules for the Evertune bridge!
@ thanks man!
Hey mate, just ordered one of these. I've had the original Grungemaster for 5 years now. The eco-rosewood is a composite material, so it's 99.98% basswood bark + 0.02% glue according to their website. Feels great to play on and no difference in "tone".
Hey mate, thanks for watching! It definitely feels just as good as some other darker fretboards I've had on other guitars. I appreciate all of the information!
Sick
Thanks for using our products! Hope you enjoy them❤
Obviously likes this shade of color on a guitar. They’re hanging all over the place.
Haha I actually don't have any guitars finished in shell pink at the moment! They all seem to just be a bit too much of a bright shade of pink. I think I prefer the vintage shell pink look where it has aged and yellowed over time.
$60??? Really? I searched for Guyker locking tuners on Amazon and they were all between $20 and $30. I didn't see any with these kind of knobs, though.
Hey mate, these ones are straight from their website! They do have some other cheaper locking tuners but I think these might be a bit more expensive due to the style!
I love how they line up!
Thanks for using our product! Appreciate your review and showing the installation, hope you enjoy them!
Aerials type beat in the intro 🔥
I'm glad that someone managed to notice the System Of A Down influence haha! Cheers for watching!
@@darrenfrets malakian was also a big influence on me when i first started

Is that a killswitch on the top left of the guitar?
Hey mate, it's actually the original toggle switch. It got snapped off when it was shipped to me. I'm currently getting it replaced with a black one to match the rest of the guitar a bit better. I've seen on another video that someone moved the toggle switch down to where the tone pot is. So you could probably get away with doing that and then wiring whatever you wanted to at the top of the guitar. Or you could replace the tone pot with another volume so each pickup has a separate volume, lower the volume of one of the pickups and then just use the toggle switch to switch in and out between the "on" and "off" pickup. Thanks for watching!
This as a 28 or 30" baritone... 😮
That would be so sick! I still can't understand why Fender won't release a proper line of baritone guitars. I think they'd do well considering the Squier baritone guitars seem to sell pretty decently despite not having many modern features or humbuckers etc. Have you got many extended scale length guitars? Cheers for watching!
@@darrenfrets I have three. All six strings. One 27" and two 30". My main one is a 30" Schecter Hellraiser. Not my favourite shape to look at, but I just love how it plays. Also have the 30" Harley Benton Jazzmaster. Sounds great for the money!
@@dissonantstyle I've had that Harley Benton Jazzmaster Baritone in my shopping cart so many times haha. I love the look of the thing! Shipping to Australia is just so expensive though.
@@darrenfrets Oh yeah, I get that. Lot of guitar for the money. Could gig it, but I it's basicly my back-up for the Schecter. The HB only has 22 frets btw, so I find you need big claws for certain chords 😅
@@dissonantstyle What tunings are you playing in? The Schecter seems to be a beast of a guitar but aesthetically it's not really my thing.
The beauty of drop tuning
Это классно, кстати привет из России! Lol
Hell yea love your shit
Thanks, mate! I appreciate it!
I bought a 50 w 112 and a 100 w 212 on its way
Nice! Will you be using them in stereo?
Hi Kuya Darren
Hey! I hope everyone is doing well over in the Philippines!
They never have these in stock lol
I think companies are underestimating how popular baritone guitars are at the moment! It says it should be back in stock in October but I've noticed those dates seem to get pushed back fairly often. Thanks for watching!
Pre-order it matey. I pre-ordered for myself. It should be sent at beginning of next month. I am looking forward getting it. Darren is right. Artist underestimate the popularity of baritone but Artist is not alone there.
🔥🔥
Very nice. Love the colour!
Matt from EverTune here. Thanks for this informative video. Nice tones and nice playing. The KX700 I reviewed didn't exhibit any QC issues, but I agree that that neck shim thing you experienced is unacceptable. Have you contacted Cort? I'm curious what they would say. Their QC is generally good, for their instruments and the guitars they build for other manufacturers. Thanks again!
Hey Matt, thanks for watching! The shop I purchased the guitar through contacted them for me and said it might be up to a two month wait for them to be able to source a replacement guitar. The shop ended up giving me a discount though! I will say the EverTune is amazing! I have a Fender Elemental Telecaster that is currently getting modded with an EverTune bridge. I am definitely looked forward to playing that one once the installation is complete. Cheers
Nice riffing! I have the same guitar, also in black, but swapped out the bridge pickup for a rails-type humbucker. Plays and sounds great. Cheers!
I can imagine a hot rails type pickup would work great in this guitar! What sort of music are you playing with it? Cheers for watching!
Background looks so cozy <3
I'm noticing everyone is jumping the effects loop with a patch cable. Are you noticing a difference?
Hey mate, yeah strangely enough there was a decent enough difference to where I always left the patch cable in. Apparently it only works on this version of the amp and makes no difference to the 2nd version
great quality video bro
I'm willing to buy the cort kx700 mutility, which has fishman fluence modern besides this Duncan's, with the hardtail
@@zinneck4536 Thanks! I haven't had a chance to play that guitar. Or any multi-scale guitar for that matter. The Fishman Fluence Modern pickups are really great for high gain tones! Looks like a pretty decent guitar overall! Cheers for watching
@darren.guitar was looking upon skme reviews it's probably what I'm gonna buy, seems crazy for the price point
Recently discovered your vids. Have been very interested in the Meteora. Thanks for the vid! Subbed in thanks. Curious, are you still playing it?
Hey mate, thanks for subscribing! I actually ended up selling this guitar a few months ago but then was also very close to buying another one to get equipped with an EverTune bridge. I still think they are a great guitar with an awesome vibe and I wouldn't be surprised if I did pick up another one in the future. The neck was very comfortable to play! I'd love to see Fender continue to use that body shape in the future. What sort of music will you be playing with yours? Cheers
@@darrenfrets Can't wait to play one myself. I mostly play 90s alt rock, or adjacent. I have a Player Strat HSS, but prefer the single cut shape on my LTD EC-401. Originally I was looking to marry those, but saw the Meteora and am now *very* curious.
@@SpookyJamez I honestly think the Meteora is perfect for those 90's vibes! I'm a big fan of single cut ESP LTD guitars as well though! I've owned a few of the EC-1000 guitars over the years
Sounds sick!
