I wish I could find a good senior companion program. Also, see comments from others experiences. My experience has been nothing like the ads. The person who runs the place isn't friendly. My first senior companion would only take me on errands and yell at me. Finally, I had to ask to be put back on the waiting list for another. After waiting about a year and being told they're still waiting for someone in my area, my daughter was finally told they're not planning to find me another, and their reasons weren't true. Finally I got another. She also would only take me on errands and shout in my face when she felt like it. There was no companionship, or visits, help or company in the home. After a couple of years, I was suddenly told she had to quit because she fell and hurt her knee. Did she, really? And am I really back on the list? How long will it be this time? They're very poorly run because they should have replacements, temporary, until someone else is available. I'm suddenly home bound without a way to get groceries, pay bills, fill prescriptions, go to doctors, etc. I'm so lost on what to do. I know there must be some very kind senior companions out there, but this is the only page that doesn't have the comments turned off.If someone still runs this page, please give me some advice because I feel very lost.

I recieved only $60 food st mps for June. This only buys maybe just two beef Roasts, how will I buy the rest of my food?? Food proces are sky rocketing. Please I pray we will get more to supply us with our food supply's

Help us with food stamps card renewal, the give a way not always the best but better than nothing. Help with monthly soc security monthly when not enough. Why can't we make as much as possible. Cost of living has gone up.. Gas prices are $3 a gallon. We have to buy water to drink and Water for Cpap machine. Gloves and masks. Need 10% increase in Soc security to buy clothes. I have not bought clothes since 1989.

I wish you would tell us about South Carolina. I don't see anybody from that state taking interest

The Senior Companion Program is a governmental initiative that pairs volunteers 55 years of age and older with aging adults and adults living with disabilities who need support with everyday tasks and, of course, companionship. Volunteer companions serve for 15 to 40 hours each week and receive a tax-free stipend (if they qualify as low-income). The program is a branch of Senior Corps, a US government agency dedicated to supporting the comprehensive health and dignity of America’s senior population. The Senior Companion Program is run by local organizations. San Diego office is located at the Cathy Hopper Friendship Center in Clairemont 4425 Bannock, San Diego, 92117. Depending on each person’s needs, senior companions may help with household chores, grocery shopping, bill pay, transportation, doctors visits and other appointments, and offering friendship and socialization-at no cost to participants. I volunteered for six years and found it very rewarding until they said we must manage our visits within the same 9 to 5 hours as the office.
