Marcus Allen was a great back, no question about it. But having HOFer Bruce Matthews along with a couple of future solid pros in Don Mosebar and Roy Foster blocking for him? It's almost surprising Allen didn't run for a touchdown every play with that Oline!
To this day, I could never figure how why the UCLA RG left such a hole between him and the center. They just went through it like grease lightening.
Awwwwseme Rivalry My Bruins, Grad/Alum '84-'88 & '97-'01. Marcus Allen is from San Diego Cali. My hometown & still reside, hes a Lincoln High Grad & I'm a Pt. Loma High Grad class of '84. Myself and 2 of my cousins attended UCLA & 2 of my other cousins attended USC. I miss those days of good old fashion College Saturday Day Light Games & tailgate parties & just every aspect if my College Year's football 🏈🏈🏈👏👏👏😁
Made up for freeman McNeil the year before
All i hear is the USC band...Fight On !
I was in the 8th grade when this game was played. It turned me into a college football junkie.
as an OU fan was severely disheartened by the outcome…though later that evening, in the blackberry pit, kim detrick made it all better…
I was at this game as a 20 year old USC junior. What an epic game! Marcus Allen was the 2nd Heisman trophy winner during my 4 years at USC.
Coaches smoking lung darts on the sidelines. Those were the days.
Im from the South but I'm a college football enthusiast. And this game O remember. Terry Donahue vs John Robinson. Stealth vs fire and ice. These games was what made the sport so great in this area of TV games being a real privilege and ABC giving these teams the royal treatment. RIP Keith and Frank.
In September, these teams were the top two but in January, they were not. Clemson and Nebraska were playing on the other coast for supremacy. And Danny Ford's Tigers were victorious. And it would be four more years, 1985 until OU would capture a national championship 🏆. And 22 more years for USC to do the same.
A good USC team will always beat ANY SEC team. That’s why Saban saw what is coming and retired before we sent him to the grave. 😂🤣 Fight On!
Those Trojan tailbacks were some bad boys.
OU best team that year. turnovers kill.
Lincoln Riley bring back a D-Line like this.
I watched Sam Bam Cunningham go over the top for a TD on TV as a kid. Then Traveller came out amd that was it... I was a Trojan. I was going to attend Troy one day...and I did and this was my first live game as a student. A great team. Allen, Simmons, Banks, Achica, Matthews, Simmons and all. Sweet memories. Fight On! Trojans...Fight On!
230 lb center. Those were the days.
Looks to me that if OU had played that QB (#8) the entire game they would have probably won easily. The guy they started (#7) was a turnover machine. OU's defense finally wore out in the fourth quarter. And can you believe that Switzer chose to kick off to a team that had Marcus Allen on offense.
I loved this game. We couldn't stop that dam wishbone. Tradition gave us the edge at home. Now why coudnt we beat the Domers in future years when the teams were ranked 1 and 2.
Too bad for both Washington was the best in PAC 10 this year.
No, if UCLA wins this game, they would have been PAC-10 Champs and gone to the Rose Bowl instead of the Huskies.
@Gl16619 Hold up on the criticism of Mazur. First of all, it was tough having to hand off the ball thru out the game, asked to manage the game.. THEN, at a moment's notice, be expected to change the game, by creating a rhythm and throwing the ball all over the yard...TO WIN the game. A high expectation, he not only met, but exceeded. I don't know what you were watching, but when we needed first downs on 3rd and long in the fouth quarter Maz was clutch.. EVERYTIME, ON EVERY THROW!!! That 3rd and long throw from the left hash, ALL the way across the field, that gained 26 yards, in front of AND between THREE defenders, WAS ABSOLUTE GENIUS I!! To have the poise to stand in the box and hit Malcolm Moore in the chest, in stride, over the middle, was excuted to perfection. And lastly..to kept his head about him and have the presence of mind to run for the game winning touchdown only in a micro second to flip the ball to Cornwell to win the game, not only showed his great decision making, but also revealed his team first mentality. He choose a great play over a good play. He may not have had the lofty numbers, profile or opportunities of other great SC Q.B's like Pete Bethard, Bill Nelson, Graig Fertig, Jimmy Jones, Mike Rae, Pat Haden, Vince Evans, Rob Hertel, Paul McDonald, Rodney Peete, Rob Johnson, Carson Palmer, Matt Lenart, Sammy D, or Caleb. But on THAT day, he etched himself forever into the lore of what it means to be an Great Trojan Quarterback, as he brought us back from the edge of defeat to the thrill of victory. I am extremely proud to call him my teammate and my friend. ✌️
I was a sophomore at USC and watched this game live from the student section (40yd line). @jefferysimmons4501 you played a great game. Truly a Trojan legend. One of the most memorable games of all time. Great game-winning catch by Fred Cornwell. But I remember it was Marcus Allen that ran all over OU. They couldn't stop him...Fight On!
USC has always had OU's number.
The next game in our Rose Bowl was better
Neither one of these teams lived up to early season hype especially Oklahoma.
Man look a packed coliseum
Again blatant holding on the last USC TD of the refs swallowed their whistles in typical fashion
What ever happened to that Marcus Allen player, I wonder if he had a good football career.....hummm
That was a beat-down!
lol you must be high, last play win 😂
@@MountainScrambler71I was referring to the physicality of this matchup from long ago. Close score, sure. Both teams failed to live up to the hype that year. But Marcus Allen dragged the Sooner defense up and down the field the entire game. They couldn't tackle him.
So many great out of conference games back then. Nowadays, the big time schools just line up home cupcakes.
The Pac-12 is gone now? Say it ain't so.
This is what they are afraid of… Fight On ⚔️✌🏾
George Achica was already a big name in the Pac-10 and at USC before he blocked Norm Johnson's kick that ended this game. But he REALLY went down in Trojans history when he blocked that kick. Like they say, you gotta make big plays in rivalry games to help cement your college football legacy.
And yet no one remembers his pro career oh that's because he didn't do much
@@victorestrada7559 That's cold, but true though.
@@victorestrada7559I guess someone lost money on UCLA because of Achica that day...😏😏😏
And the next year when auburn was undefeated they had the GALL to say they could have beaten SC.
So satisfying on so many layers
2003 USC shouldn’t have had to share the national championship with lsu.
George achica baby !!!
I was there and remember the OU fans walking in pretty full of themselves, thinking they were going kick our butts, walking out after the game they were nice and quiet. Fight On!
Really wanna win against Troy dammit!
awsum win USC
Steve my man with the good foot !
Great memoires I love my teammates fight on this week SC go Trojans #6 TW 78-82
It’s no surprise John Mazur never made the pros…horrible arm with no accuracy
This game was so satisfying to watch. As a Bama fan, I enjoy seeing Auburn get their mouths shut. USC was ferocious.
Kinda of like seeing bana go 4-9 that year
Mike Williams should of stayed in School
He stays in school and no doubt USC is the greatest team of all time 2004
This was the last year that the schools shared the Coliseum.
I think UCLA left due to the fact they would still be 3rd in the pecking order behind the Raiders and USC.
Excellent finish watching it live, 90k+ in the stadium
Loved watching this game live, simply electrifying in the final seconds
1:10:55 Keith Jackson getting a little salty with Frank
epic stuff
It's so much fun to go back and watch this after all these years. Almost as much fun and living through it while it was actually happening....✌✌
