I had the OG N1 Straighter and the and the UCS Model from a couple years later. I've always actually liked the OG version better. It was rugged as hell. I played with it a TON. The UCS one was not as tough.

hurts seeing the retail prices of these. i barely got into collecting and all these star fighters and interceptors are all like $150 or more and seeing them at $25 just feels like a kick in the nuts. wish I was older back then so I could’ve bought and started my collection sooner.

just some minor notes bc i love how in-depth this gets and i love ur stuff generally but i feel like the tiny blind spots are worth pointing out -the naboo starfighter got a huge glowup because 2002 introduced 2 new, groundbreaking curved slopes that allowed it to get that sleek look the 1999 ones couldn't, i think? it's odd, because lego's rereleases in that same year didn't touch up anything despite the much sleeker elements lending themselves to the builds and the ucs y wing of that year, but it's funny to note that as soon as lsw designers got their hands on curved slopes they immediately dropped a slicker contoured n1 for public consumption -have to wonder if the splotchy colour schemes on sets like the sith infiltrator or the later ties were either intended to make the set more toyetic, to maintain some sheen of colour from the films, or that lego just plain didn't have those pieces recoloured at the time. the spatterings of tan or brown or red across most of these early vehicles has always struck me as odd, and it really feels like lego had just not had the full breadth of recolours to do what they do now with pristine, properly-blocked models as was back then -qui-gon's hairpiece is also distinctly wrong compared to his actual hair! you can tell they might've been working with prototype models, given his hair here is essentially a modified generic male hairpiece with the requisite reworkings, but it's interesting to see how indev models slipped into photoshoots especially given how much of an undertaking this whole theme must have felt like. and seconding the sentiment: lego not releasing more small environmental builds like, say, duel on starkiller base to cross-promote for the movie and make accessible the main characters is a real bummer as the theme continues to go on -according to brickset's annual minifigure-scale article check this landspeeder is about as close to figscale as lego has feasibly ever done, which speaks to how distorted lego proportions are. a ten-dollar landspeeder nowadays wouldn't be too bad, and certainly would be better than shelling out $30 for one, but then again lego's affordable selections are all crowded out with subthemes like microfighters or mechs or battlepacks so that's probably keeping it so high-cost. and shoutout to the 2014 visual dictionary luke! he really has stood the test of time -eternal banger :)) -rest in pieces to the sub-$10 category. wonder if this would've been joked about as a moisture vaporator battlepack now but it's still very impressive they got everything a kid would want in such a tight package, and managed to throw in some light scenery as a bonus to create environmental storytelling in the model in a way that isn't just a plain, overbuilt floor like they've been doing more and more often. one of those perils of not advertising baseplates like they used to -endor luke is still really interesting as an "exclusive" figure, given he was the only poncho luke to exist for a solid 24 years. i'm never sure what the value is for certain exclusive figures that were released in incredibly affordable sets, but given how much p2 rex commands from a $25 model, it's probably safe to say it depends on the interests of each generation and their demand for whichever subtheme is in mind. environmentally there is something really satisfying about capturing a small element of a much denser scene in under 100 pieces; i doubt inflation is the real reason for the display-scale models compared to recency, given the diorama models capture these scenes now that they've been enshrined as cultural touchstones whereas the more recent fare get smaller duel models depending on specific demographic demand, hence the 18+ vader duel existing primarily for display in contrast to the much smaller ahsoka or anakin or rey duels existing to play out a recent movie, or how LoTR switched to largely display models when the toyetic treatment underperformed: depiction via lego set seems to have become more transparently demographic-based than when their models were almost strictly catered to kids upward and given one subtheme for adult- i mean ultimate collectors -ok actually there was a point where i legit couldn't keep going without feeling like i was obligated to point something interesting out vs just noticing something that was endemic to the way lego designed these back in the day so im stopping here but great vid again! love the small tidbits of levity and that there's such visible passion put into this video

Honestly, I think that the more blocky, exposed-stud look is cool and nostalgic because now all of the sets are smooth and shiny and whatnot. Awesome video as always and I can't wait for the sequel

In fairness to the Naboo starfighter, I’m not sure if LEGO had developed the sloped and curved pieces to really do the ship justice. If straight slopes were all they had, I’d say they did a decent job.

The vulture droid is missing the small detail that the head is attached by a round technic peg so you can pull it off and attach it to the top of the frame for when it's standing. In Episode 1 inside the Trade Federation ship their heads are pretty articulated. Unfortunately lost the wings for mine so he's looking pretty sad

I was a 1999er, can confirm the N1 is the worst and I am surprised it rarely ends up in last place. At least the Sith Infiltrator has the shape somewhat down

Gotta say, even though its not my thing, I can't deny the sets from the early era of LSW are super charming. Like the Naboo star fighter and the X-wing look straight up adorable. I think it would be super cool if we got a few of these old style builds in a collector's set or something. A blast from the past y'know?

13:15 this one was the best back then, it was the perfect size to play with and im pretty sure i built it and destroyed it over 20 times during its lifetime, such a fun time.

I would recomend putting the hastags "ranking and lego" in the descriptions of your videos, which might give a little bit of a boost since youtube will the categorize the videos as such and recommend them to more people...

This is gonna prove that I have basically no knowledge on LEGO Star Wars but I had no idea these sets went so far back! Not to mention them looking absolutely great for their time. Nice video my favorite one from this list was actually the Sith Infiltrator with the X Wing as my second favorite set. I honestly enjoy having Blue on the Tie fighters and the Sith Infiltrator since it makes them more unique and stands out from the all grey and black like what we normally have.
