Does this tube have open ends at both ends for first two frequencies? That way ends behave like displacement anti nodes and pieces will fly off.

Sir i tried making this using a flourescent tube .cutting both edges removing mercury. Placed a piston at one end and a speaker at other. Applied every audible frequency from hz to kh but the beads wouldn't move. What might be the reason ? Kundts tube is my final year bsc physics project topic. How can I make these thermocol beads move and measure length between nodes and determine velocity of sound . Please help

Hello, thank you very much for this video. I'm a physics teacher and I'll show the vidéo to my students tomorow. It answers a question I had. There is a resonance for L = lambda/2 and L = 3/4 lambda. In the second case, the tube is still close by the speaker but I works. It means that there is a minimum of pressure on the side of the speaker.

1:57 - that's not 179hz, sounds more like around 150ish. The others sounded off as well, but just so happen to know that 179hz is just slightly higher than the note "F", and yet the sound (coming out of my speakers at least) was closer t D#
