Cappadocia Rose Valley area hikes
Having spent two morning’s at Love valley we moved to a new spot on the edge of Rose valley. Much less tourists here. We could enter the valley right next to our camp-spot. We really enjoyed hiking the valley’s, explore many cave dwellings and look around in a large number of churches. Some of these still have well preserved frescoes. After two nights in this spot, we moved to our last spot in Cappadocia.

Cappadocia - a hike through Love Valley to Uçhisar
มุมมอง 8728 วันที่ผ่านมา
After the morning excitement with all the hot air balloons was over we entered “Love Valley” not too far away from where we were camping. Monique had a trail that would lead us all the way to the town of Uçhisar with is unique cave/rock houses. The start of the valley, where most of the pinnacles are, was quite hot to hike. As we progressed the trail became narrower, started to follow some gull...
Cappadocia - an air balloon spectacle
มุมมอง 16328 วันที่ผ่านมา
We spent a week in Cappadocia. The area turned out much more interesting than we originally thought. A number of reels will follow. A key attraction in the area are the hot air ballons. It is quite a spectacle to see some 100 balloons take to the sky and float through the different valley’s. We camped on a prime spot above Love Valley. The area was very quiet during the day and evening. Early m...
Visiting the bears at Nemrut Gölü

We wanted to visit the mount Nemrut crater in April but got stopped by the large amount of snow. We then barely managed to hike to the rim and have a look at the crater and the lake. We decided then that we would return. The crater of the Nemrut Volcano is one of the largest calderas of the world. The western half of the crater is covered by the lake. At the summit, there are five lakes, two of...
Driving over the Zekari Pass with our MAN HX60/Bliss mobil
มุมมอง 45หลายเดือนก่อน
The final route we wanted to do in Georgia was the track over the Zakari Pass. The track starts just after Abastumani, which is a lovely small village with beautiful houses along the main road. We had some lunch there. The track up the mountain was good (it had been dry for some time). Plenty of serpentines (hair-pins) near the start which we could not do in one go. We have done this before, so...
Green Lake
มุมมอง 50หลายเดือนก่อน
After Batumi we drive back into the mountains. The target is Green Lake, a small lake at about 2100m. It is a nice drive. Small villages and wooden houses dot the landscape. We see many houses with the kitchen sink on the outside of the balcony. We had not seen that before. We can only imagine how the area looks in winter. We camp on a meadow close to Green Lake. As usual, cows and dogs roam ar...
Batumi
มุมมอง 84หลายเดือนก่อน
Batumi is the second-largest city of Georgia , located on the coast of the Black Sea only 20 kilometers north of the border with Turkey. It is situated in a subtropical zone at the foot of the Caucasus. It is nicknamed "The Las Vegas of the Black Sea". We spent a few days there getting stocked up (large supermarkets), getting chores done and getting our hair done. At night, the resemblance with...
On our way to Batumi
มุมมอง 35หลายเดือนก่อน
We left Ushguli for Batumi. The roads out of the mountains were also quite good (or being worked). We camped near a nice viewpoint. As usual, a friendly dog turned up within minutes and accompanied us where we went. The next day we visited the Sairme Pillars before we continued. Our camping target was the Vani Sulfur Pools. On this route we encountered a fair number of places where we needed to...
A hike to the edge of the Shkhara Glacier near Ushguli
มุมมอง 46หลายเดือนก่อน
From our camp site we could see the Greater Caucasus mountain range with the majestic Shkhara mountain and glacier. The peaks form the border with Russia. The Shkhara mountain with its peak at 5203m, is Georgia’s highest. The hike is very easy along the road/track until you get close. Some overlanders park/camp close to the end-point of the track. We liked our spot much better. The glacier’s ed...
Exploring Ushguli
มุมมอง 462หลายเดือนก่อน
Ushguli is a community of five villages located at the head of the Enguri gorge in Svaneti. Compared to somewhat more developed towns like Mestia, Ushguli is not in an accessible location, which has preserved many of the villages' medieval characteristics, including unique defensive tower houses called Svan towers (built primarily between the 9th and 12th centuries). Ushguli is located at an al...
A brief visit to Mestia's Hatsvali Ski area
มุมมอง 67หลายเดือนก่อน
For our last day in Mestia we decided to have a look at the Hatsvali ski area and resort. You can see the area from downtown Mestia. To go to the top of the area, you can take two cable cars. There however is a good road/track to the second lift (the Hatsvali ski lift). We drove the Truck there and found a reasonably flat spot at the base of the ski piste. We took the ski lift up and hiked to t...
e-biking to the Koruldi Lakes above Mestia
มุมมอง 35หลายเดือนก่อน
Some 1300m above Mestia you can find the Koruldi Lakes. The track to these lakes leads via “the Cross over Mestia”. The Koruldi lakes are a popular day-trip destination for many as the views are stunning. As such, you can go there with 4WD mini-van, horse-back, bicycle or on foot. We always wanted to experience e-bikes and decided to rent some full suspension e-MTB’s in Mestia. We were very ple...
Visiting the base of the Chalaadi Glacier near Mestia
มุมมอง 30หลายเดือนก่อน
As you drive past Mestia airport the track turns to a gravel road that leads to the starting point of the hike to the foot of the glacier. The hike is easy with only a mild ascent. At our first visit, the glacier was already in the shade, so we came back the next day. One of the joys of slow travel. The glacier edge is covered in rubble. Regularly small and large rocks come tumbling down as ice...
Arriving in Mestia
มุมมอง 372 หลายเดือนก่อน
It was only a short drive to Mestia. Mestia is a highland town at an elevation of 1,500 metres in the Caucasus. We stayed for a week in the Mestia area. A typical Svan fortified dwelling consisted of a tower, an adjacent house (machubi) and some other household structures encircled by a ...

After Tskaltubo we headed into the mountains towards Mestia. Not far before Mestia lies the village of Mazeri. The Shdugra waterfall lies in the mountain range at the edge of the valley. There is a parking at 42.558472 44.868392. Some folks already start at the Roshka village, but the road to the point above is good. The hike took us some 5hrs round-trip including breaks, lunch etc. The hike is easy, only the section to the white lake gets steep.
