    I have been discerning for over a year if I should be a cloistered nun or a consecrated laywoman. Tomorrow I’ll have my second video call with the Abbess of a Benedictine Convent. It’s been such a long and intense journey for me. I trust Jesus will lead me all the way…

    Through deep prayer all superficial aspects are wiped away and you are atuned to go deep within oneself to seek the true self and one's closeness to God

    I have observed that people who have an authentic vocation have left the monastery usually had one thing in common: they do not have humility. Pride is the major factor in people who are unable to persevere in religious life: it can be that they are set in their own ways or they are unable to forgive slights caused by other sisters. That is why entering religious life, especially the monastic life, is a prolonged "white" martyrdom. Only the mentally strong and spiritually strong in faith can enter this kind of life. St.Teresa enlightened me that you need to see yourself as a servant of ALL and look at each sister as Our Lord Jesus.

    This is the complete opposite to my situation. I'm now inside a Discalced Carmelite Monastery doing my third search in. I think I found *my* Carmel now. I've always known that my vocation is to be a Carmelite for 11 years. But my struggle is that I am really missing my old life, the freedom of being able to choose the most trivial things in the outside world such as how you want to spend your time or the food that you want to eat. The great disadvantage of being in the secular world is the total lack of discipline by people, the noise all around, both literally and figuratively speaking and the abundance of temptations. You really give up everything in the cloister. It's not a life for everyone. So it's not surprising that only very few persevere.

    I was talking b to a woman who had also left her order. She told me that the food was awful for her. So bland that she just ate i t vfor substinance and got no pleasure from it at all. But she said that they did have a number of community pets and that one little dog had adopted her -- sort of like a big sister

    I realize this is an older video but thought I'd reach out. I'm currently discerning tertiary Secular Carmelite Order. I've been drawn to monastic life for as long as I can remember but I am happily married. Currently looking into living the Carmelite Rule as a layman before contacting the local Secular Carmelite Order. I did this previously with the Benedictine Rule as I was discerning Benedictine Oblation. Would you have any advice on that?

    Hi Caroline, thanks for sharing this! I was wondering if you are still discerning this vocation (I’ve subbed to your channel but haven’t seen the rest of your videos) and what is the process? I think God is drawing me into this vocation but I found there isn’t a lot of resources out there. I also live in the Diocese of East Anglia (down south) so I was incredibly grateful to stumble upon your TH-cam channel. ❤

      Hi, thank you so much for your comment. I do hear the Lord’s voice in very deep prayer sessions, and that time before I left the convent was one of them. It doesn’t happen all day every day, but having been in an incredibly peaceful and prayerful environment for five months, I was able to really go to my deepest centre with God - and there you can hear him. It was a just a few simple words and that’s all I needed, along with a beautiful feeling of peace which stayed, and the discernment of the community as well. 🙏C

    • @carolineleighton
      @carolineleighton 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, thank you for your message. Being sure about your vocation isn’t totally dependent on being a postulant. I was very called to monastic life, so I think you have to go first where you’re most drawn and the Lord will show the way. 🙏

    I am so happy to have discovered this video. I've been seeing orbs and other things for a long time. The church had me convinced that this was something demonic, but I knew better. I love and praise God, so there was no way I could see Him exposing me to something to separate me from His love. Thanks for sharing.
