First Outboard Motor. No idea what I got myself into and Outboard Mechanics must be rich because they are impossible to find an available one and dang they charge a ton. Guess I'm figuring this out as I go.

This beauty is clean inside and out with the necessary upgrades to make it work in today’s world with the Pioneer AVIC-w8500nex. New tires. All filters and fluid changed. New brakes. You are set for a long time and can tow what you want. First $11,500 will get this at a steal of a price. I have more than 18,000 into it. My loose is your win.

Yep. Now I'm jealous too! And it's got a proper transmission!
I would do a compression test. That would reveal the problem.
Still alot of smoke coming out of her. I realize you disabled the VRO, but there is still oil in that line to be used up. Try removing the oil line directly from the back of the VRO pump. Is your pre mixed fuel fresh, mixed properly? Did you just buy this boat? If not, did it ever run properly?
OK, well first you must figure out why it is smoking so much, the extra oil has probably fouled the plugs. Are you using the oil system, or premix? If you are using the oiling system, you probably have an air leak in the fuel system which caused the fuel/oil injection pump to pump too much oil. You can hear a clicking noise every time the VRO/fuel oil pump "resets". Hearing a constant "clicking" is a sign the there is air in the pump causing it to over cycle to oil.
miss fire
Wish I had that:)
Thats a nice boat and engine you got there! Dang! Compression is good? Seems pretty smokey, primer/choke stuck on? Carbs clean? Any stupid little air leak in the fuel lines connecting the carbs will make them run funky. You seem to know your way around engines decently so you probably already know all of this. I have a video of me setting the idle (how I do it anyway) 1:20:34 on the speedboat restoration. Actually looking closer, it seems your carb cams are out of sync with one another (the things with the standard head screw and have the small metal rods connecting them all). You might have to "link and sync" them. Matt's shop has a video on how to do it.
Still on one cylinder, sometimes 2.
Uhhhh, it sounds like it's running on one cylinder.
Thanks for the comments.. decided to put it up for sale for $500 (boat, trailer w new tires and the evinrude 70). Just more then I want to jump into.
Those were a great boat. But damn, that's a ton of work.
yea i agree… i’ve been putting it off but i put it up today. $450 or best offer. heck the 2 new trailer tires cost me 240.
I have owned a 1974 V156 with the blue band Mercury 85hp since 1990. I did the floor and stringers with new carpet and seats 30 years ago. It needs to be done again, but it's worth it if you like the boat. It's more about time than cost. Use pressure treated material for flooring and stringers. Glass over and you're done for a few decades. Best of luck.......
I appreciate the response.. gave me some confidence. I plan on cutting out the old next saturday and then clean everything up. Then I'll build the stringers out of either pressure treated or marine plywood. Once its solid and in place then its nice to glass. I haven't done glassing but youtube has helped build my confidence. Hoping I can get the boat in the water by July, August at the latest. Thanks again for your comment
I had a 14ft 1969 Mohawk, that had the same thing wrong with it. At the end of the week I had more money in it than I would have had just buying a better one.
Yea thats what I’m afraid of. Anything you could of done to cut the cost down? My thought is I buy something else the issue is probably still there just not as bad. It feels as though the heavy lifting is rebuilding the supports with wood then fiberglass. Never worked with Fiberglass but you can learn alot on TH-cam and they actually make me feel about 10% more confident.
@@gearcrushers9631 the only thing I wish I would have done differently, is i probably would’ve used a resin to seal the boards better so they wouldn’t ever rot out again, or use something other than wood like a polymer or aluminum. Fiberglass isn’t that hard to figure out with TH-cam, but the biggest thing your ganna wanna do is invest is some thick rubber gloves and a thick long sleeve shirt.

Can you give me a list of swap I got a 70 cutlass want to no what cooling system you use and headers please
Who has this car today, I want it
I'd rather have the Olds motor any day took the bench seat out ? I usually go drive in with two female friends... Top has got a lot of squealing check the oil level or pump...did not go down all the way usually nice car but this one I will pass no resale value not original...
Holy CLOSUP views BATMAN ! Beautiful but could you have stepped back about 3 feet while filming wouldnt have been so blurry!
What oil pan and motor mounts did you use
Threw up in my mouth a little. Oldsmobile purist. Absolute atrocity. But it's yours.
Tony Fisher no olds motor can come close to the performance of an LS and so u know, ur the first to throw up at beauty but ugly needs love to, good they have u.
Iv had ls 2 6.0 she could not hold her oil at 55,000miles ouT TO.6 LITER 6 SPEED. I have my priorities. They have to be able to hold oil to 3,000miles no drop. Not for me...
What year is the block
Beautiful car
How much
Need info on the power steering and alternator bracket you used
What muffler is on it? Have a 99 5.7 and your truck sounds good
Where did you get your motor mount brackets and was your power steering pump hitting your frame or steering gear box.
love it
What engine mounts and headers did u use?
Jarrett Dixon did u ever figure out ?
Booo olds only 455. So it right
Are there headers on her and did you have A problem
I was trying to find out the same thing did you ever get it done
Wow beautifully done 👍
What was your AC compressor set up? Was thinking about using a bracket like that on my C10 when I drop a 5.3 in it.
nice
That's an absolutely beautiful cutty.
SOLD for $16,500 (which was a steal for solid classic car, no rust on body or frame, so much new parts) I'm sure I'll miss it
What did u have to do for the swap?
How can I find the owner? I want to buy it
Sold for a stupid stupid stupid low price of $6500 (heck the guy who bought it called me to just tell me how much he loves it) I do miss it but I have it hear on TH-cam to remind me how stupid I was to get rid of it.
It's now on Craigslist and I'll see how it goes there before I go to eBay. flint.craigslist.org/cto/5507758856.html
Haven't put it back up for sale yet (snow the ground so its in a covered car hauler trailer covered up snug as a bug in a rug)... once there is no salt on the roads I'll have it back up for sale. (248)313-6968 - Dennis
