Hello César! I just listened to your interview with Jacqueline. I found it interesting. I have a few questions/observations regarding the "2023 Farm Bill". As I understand it, this bill includes the drive to approve subsidy disbursements to US farmers. My first question: how do these government subsidies to US farmers literally connect toward improving the health and well-being of those in poverty that depend on S.N.A.P. and W.I.C. programs, briefly mentioned in this interview? Second question: is the goal to provide healthy choices to these groups to promote an eventual way out of poverty? Third question: do these funds trickle down to improve nutrition, so that the children may learn better and ultimately contribute towards a productive future workforce? Fourth question: do these funds trickle down to improve nutrition, so that the elderly/disabled, are less prone to illness, thus less of a burden to the healthcare system? Your guest mentioned food, she said we all need food...yes, so very true. I am hopeful this funding will help the previously mentioned programs have access to healthy foods. Fifth question: is the "2023 Farm Bill" subsidy equitable to all farmers or does the bulk of the funding go to corporate farms? Sixth question: If the bulk of this subsidy goes to corporate farmers what can be done to help change this inequitable disbursement process? Sixth question: is the "2023 Farm Bill" subsidy equitable to all farmer types, such as fruit crops etc. and not just soy/corn/wheat crops? Seventh and last question: If the bulk of this subsidy goes to soy/corn/wheat crops, what can be done to help change this inequitable disbursement of our tax dollar? Before I can contact my congress representative or senator in support of releasing these funds, I want to know if the funding is contributing towards: equitable support to all level of farmers and crops, not just corporate farmers; farmers should always take preventive measures to protect the people that consume the food, to be sure people are receiving quality food; assurance the environment, and wildlife, that keeps the balance of nature, are always protected. As I have driven around our farmlands, I have seen many dying or dead waterways. I would like to better understand if and how farmers are working towards improving these situations. I look forward to your follow-up interview with Jacqueline to help address these issues that are important to me. César, thank you for providing this avenue towards learning about US farming and how we can improve it. Kindest regards, Carmen : )
the farm bill is part of us have because the snap program is a big issue with the Republicans and dems. The snap program is part of the farm bill unfortunately people don't know the part of it in a piece of legislation because the food is part of us like you and me. the farm bill is every farmers small or big no matter. We have to use cover crop and use less chemicals, it is other topics. Now that the senator is not farmers or a small town like us. This legislation is having trouble finding a common goal but unfortunately it will appear to work for next year. Please email me at cattlemanottawa@gmail.
