Automated Profiling of Gene Function During Embryonic Development
มุมมอง 1033 หลายเดือนก่อน
UC San Diego School of Biological Sciences researchers developed an automated system for profiling the function of genes required for embryogenesis, the process by which a fertilized egg, which starts as a single cell, develops into an organism with different tissues, such as skin, digestive tract, neurons and muscles. They used time-lapse 4-D imaging to methodically track the function of each ...

Two Hearts Instead of One

New research published in Developmental Cell from Emma Farley’s lab at UC San Diego has described the ability to predict which changes within enhancers, switches that control when and where our genes are expressed, lead to changes in organisms. The video (looped) depicts the way the researchers made just a single-letter change to an enhancer in sea squirts, causing the organism to develop an ad...

Research led by UC San Diego (Hibbs Lab) and Harvard University (Bellono Lab) has traced the evolutionary adaptations of octopus and squid sensing capabilities. The studies, featured on the cover of the journal Nature, reveal evolutionary links to human brain receptors. The researchers describe for the first time the structure of an octopus chemotactile receptor, which octopus arms use for tast...
