The same way that I began as a drummer and now currently have two different electronic drum kits in my allotment of instruments (though I’m now a guitarist), I could easily imagine that if I had started playing the saxophone as a child, I would have the same type of woodwind synthesizer as of 2024 as this EWI Michael played so brilliantly.

_This is _*_not_* an AKAI prototype_ but a _Steinerphone_ made in 1984-5. Inventor Nyle Steiner had been making similar instruments for a decade before he began working with AKAI in the 80's. He also invented it's lesser known cousin the EVI (Electronic Valve Instrument) for horn players. A gifted trumpeter, Nyle has played the EVI on several movie soundtracks, including Apocalypse Now
