Dear Disney STOP MAKING LIVE ACTION REMAKES, I BEG YOU (Snow White 2025 live action remake trailer)
Here we are again with yet another terrible Disney remake that will disrespect the original animated film and poise itself as the best thing ever since sliced bread. If Rachel Zegler’s lack of basic understanding of the core of the original movie and its characters during her interviews about this upcoming live action remake wasn’t terrible enough, the trailers prove that this might be the worst Disney live action remake yet (which is not that hard to achieve btw but anyway, you get the point). After watching The Wild Robot, I was reminded of what it feels like to have an original animated movie, which was something Disney was really good at in the past, but now the best it could give us was Wish *yikes* and now this Snow White live action remake, I guess…

      And when it’s an animation, it usually is an unnecessary sequel. It’s such a shame that Disney’s latest original animation (Wish) sucked. Watching The Wild Robot made me realize just how much I miss original animated movies, but thanks to Moana 2 (I haven’t seen it but so far I’ve heard that it’s not as great as the original one), probably Disney’s upcoming animated films will mostly be sequels milking on the success of the original ones.

    Hello again. If you were the one who set up that seach tab for the meaning of retconning, thank you. As the guy above said no hard feelings. I was a bit emotionally riled last time and I apologize for being rather condescending. I am still happy to chat. At the end of the day we are all Lion King fans here, even if we disagree on this issue. I just want to try to inject some positivity into this. I understand perfectly why you feel the way you do but I just want you to try to understand my opinion and my line of reasoning. Firstly, you seem to confuse the concept of a bad movie and a bad sequel or in this case prequel. A movie can be a bad continuation of another movie but still be a good story on it own, which was the point I was trying to make earlier. But even with that said I still don't believe this prequel is utterly irreconcilable with the original. Now I am going to admit that this is a retcon, but I still hold my position that most of the points in the original film indicating that they were actual brothers and that Mufasa was 'the rightful heir', can be recontextualized. I am not 100% certain on this though. The line: "As far as brains go I have the lions share, but when it comes to brutal strength, I am afraid I am at the shallow end of the gene pool." Could... be thought of as the gene pool of the lion species in general rather than family genes for instance? Maybe? This whole plot point is certainly lower in objective quality. Believe me if I were in charge, this is not the direction I would have taken. I am also largely disinterested in the ongoings and products of the current film industry. I rarely ever go to the cinema. So I am not nearly as numbed to the repeated use of the plot points and devices cited. But I believe these things in insolation can still be great in their own way if executed properly. There was conversation above about disliking making Scar a supposed sympathetic villain. I do myself like the old school evil for its own sake villian, but sympathetic villains can be very interesting and relevant to the overall theme and direction of the story, again if done right. Now I don't believe every villain should be sympathetic as seems to be the current trend. But I am looking at this particular instance in isolation. I understand your frustration with Disney and I share it. I confess I would probably have not decided to see this movie if I found out the guys directly working on it had an incompetent record. You mentioned above the Palpatine quote from Rise of Skywalker. If I were in charge, I would have looked at the job JJ Abrams did with the Force Awakens, I'd be like, hell no, keep him away from this franchise from now on. But when I looked at Barry Jenkin's record I became very hopeful we would get something at least decent. As for the CGI, I don't know much about this subject, but I still think this at least is far better than the slop you commonly see splattered across the screen nowadays. And last but not least you have got admit we are seeing some pretty good potential meme material. Whether this movie is good or bad I think we will be saying things like: Say some Taka lines "Ello, whats your name...?🤣🤣🤣🤣 For years to come. I am going to be posting the first video of my channel, of my thoughts on the movie whether good or bad once get I to my car after leaving the cinema in December. Please look out for it!

    From a perspective of pure logic, the majority of the time, no one asks for any sequels or prequels for a given IP. There are few to no additions to a full, standalone work of fiction that are immediately accepted for the simple reason that they are unexpected. That is understandable and normal. What is not understandable is the simultaneous respect and disrespect that you are showing the movie you clearly adore. The initial movie was designed to be alone. It is the Prime Canon, the basis all additions orbits around. If there are any alleged contradictions, they can and should be interpreted in a way such that they bend, if not are designed around, the initial storytelling. The repetitive griping that anyone dare add anything to this series implies that a monolith of fiction like this is the kind of thing that should not ever inspire any creator to make any work in homage to it. Think of this in terms of fan fiction. If you were to find a fan- made add-on to the story, there would likely be no issue. The fact that this is a larger production is seemingly makes this immediately a piggybacking money maker and not the addition of a group of people who love the franchise. Secondly, this is by no means an entirley negative movie. In fact, playing devils advocate here, one could say that depending on how this plays out, it could fix some minor inconsistencies in the story. For example, if we only look at the original movie, we see a member of a long noble line as a great king. That alone should raise some red flags. Members of long royal or noble dynasties that are picked based purely on bloodline and not merit will extremly consistently become corrupt and take their power for granted, abusing it at their leisure. This is an established social fact, one that could only be exacerbated by the special differentiation in this world. Forget realism, this on a whole other level. From the initial scene, we can see that Mufasa is well loved by all. This alone would make him exceptional, in some way shape or form. Even the disposition of scar, of a power-hungry noble maker more social sense then Mufasa's disposition. I find it more likely than not that he would be either an outsider or a revolutionary than a normal king, picked randomlynout of the endless rolls of allegedly identical rulers. By no means would I stake much on that point. But a story based off of explaining that element, as opposed to subtracting from the value of the original work, would add to it and amplify it. Also, any gripes about broken symbolism are just rubbish. We have no idea what state of corruption the old king is in, so for all we know Mufasa could be portrayed as brining back the slowly degrading emphasis and understanding of the Circle of life that is potentially waning in the predecessors to Scar. This can be put either way, and until the movie comes out, I withhold judgement. The complaints about the graphics are also childish. This is an adaptation that is done in a medium that is much closer to the reality of what this would be than the original cartoon. What we be the alternative? Comically monotone green grass? Stones the same shade as skin? Shadows that onlybapply to large things and not everything? Upgrading the medium will have to change the way these characters and world are expressed, simply by the fact that it is no longer a cartoon. Complaining about this is foolishness, and in general, the gripes in this video are childish emotional reactions and not actualanalysis. Now I understand being wary of a Disney remake. Those have a bad history in recent times. But we can always hope that institutions can learn. Just because they have made many mistakes does not mean we should give up hope, and Impersonally am interested to see where theis story might go.

    • @cielaopinions8765
      @cielaopinions8765 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bruh, it’s not about just “adding” something or not. They are clearly changing a well known fact about Mufasa I order to come up with something to push the plot forward. This is not the first time Disney does that, but given that Disney literally pulled a “somehow Palpatine returned” a few years ago despite the fact that Palpatine’s death in episode 6 was a well stablished fact in the Star Wars lore and they still pulled it out of their butts, I’m not surprised people are going through this crazy mental gymnastics to defend the indefensible like you just did. Plus, yes, the graphics look terrible and your arguments were just as idiotic. The Chronicles of Narnia films are over 10 years old and yet they did the animal characters way better, but if you are pleased with such feeble pathetic content, then who am I to judge?

      Exactly, plus this also has been the general mindset revolving around Disney live action remakes for the past 10 years (that the remakes are better versions of the original films -specially the Disney princesses ones-), which not only is messed up but also clearly shows how the people behind these productions (and the fans who mindlessly watch them as well) usually have no respect for those classic movies and try to supersede them by undermining or retconning the og film the remake/sequel/prequel is based on.

  • @StoryAdventurer101
    @StoryAdventurer101 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    First of all there is no retconning going. It's all a matter of interpretation. Sure It might be a bit annoying to have to reframe the original writers intentions but that doesn't necessarily ruin either story. It just makes them different and different is not necessarily bad. Second there are people of talent working on this. The director is an award winner who made Moonlight for crying out loud. How can you say with a straight face that this movie has no potential? I also strongly disagree about this movie being soulless especially since this time around they are giving the animals expressions. And I also think that it mostly looks pretty good and real especially the close up shots. Thirdly I really don't understand the "nobody asked for this" argument. Seriously, how often has a new piece art come out of nowhere and make something new and powerful that people love, sometimes ignoring the wishes of the reviewer to make something better that they appreciate. Take my word, I am not a fan of Disney's recent copy the old into live action stance. But that doesn't mean that we should write every story they announce in that category off as lame and not worth telling before we even watch it. In the face of all that, please tell why you feel the need to be so cynical?

    My God, did I have opinions on this remake when I attended an Early Screening last year! I truly believe that even if the casting directors at Disney had hired an actress who closely resembled Ariel's Animated Counterpart, her appearance alone would not be enough to keep the film 'afloat' BA DUM TSS of bad writing/bad direction/etc. My concerns for TLM 2023 weren't really about Halle Bailey's casting so much as they were towards the redundant alterations of an exceptional story in order to market the film to 'modern audiences.' 1989 Ariel is a flawed protagonist from the beginning of the story and her personality should have remained intact when translating her from 2D to 3D (she's a headstrong teenager, after all). I felt no Father-Daughter chemistry between 2023 Ariel and Triton and I think part of it is a result of Ariel's distant demeanor towards her father throughout every interaction. The audience never actually sees Remake Ariel smiling to Triton until the very end of the movie, while OG Ariel constantly provides OG Triton an exultant expression even while being reprimanded for her irresponsibility. Musically, Halle was phenomenal and it's where she truly shines as the "red-headed" mermaid Disney-Renaissance fans are familiar with, but I whole-heartedly feel she and the director did not collaborate enough to conjure much more compelling emotions during the intense moments of the story. Melissa McCarthy did manage to become reminiscent of Pat Carroll's theatrical performance as Ursula in some scenes, but I didn't find her ominous enough to be considered a threat to Ariel or Triton (it could just be that I'm used to seeing McCarthy in a comedic light outside of this production). With all due respect, Javier Bardem just felt like 'Anton Chigurh' with a moist beard and a mediocre crown, Jonah Hauer-King's Eric felt like too much of a clone of Ariel minus the masculinity of his animated counterpart, and I can't recall anything noteworthy about the rest of cast or their performances in-and-out of song at the top of my head.

    Whats sad is that there was a lot of potential. They could have kept a lot of the story intact. Sam rejects the call to action which forces it upon walker who has similar feelings but nonetheless accepts because his best friend explains to him that the world needs captain America. Sam and bucky are somewhat resentful that the government pawned off the role and carry some animosity towards walker. Walker tries his best but sam is cold missing his friend and a similar story for bucky. Walker feeling discouraged starts asking for help but stops thinking he needs to prove himself and live up to the title. He fights the flagsmashers but it fails and he beats himself up. He shows that he is skilled but bring a normal guy is being left in the dust needing help from sam and bucky who see that walker is trying and warm up to him some. The wakandans try to get zemo and walker is clobbered in the attempt to stop them and the three have to work together to keep zemo from being taken. Zemo then ends up under the direct supervision of the duo for his own protection. Walker being completely dejected wants to quit but his friend keeps him going and when he gets the serum he takes it so he can be an asset. Then the fight with the flagsmashers happen and the friend dies putting walker in a rage where he kills the flagsmasher after a brutal fight because the man will not stop fighting him. After doing that he runs off thinking captain america would never do that. Sam and bucky track him dow the warehouse where they find him in complete shock, arm broken from the earlier fight and many other wounds. Walker breaks down because there is jothing left to keep him going and Sam realizes because of his choice a man was crushed by the expectations he could never meet. Walker gives sam the shield and renounces the title a broken man. Once the final fight comes around sam acknowledges walker and leaves the shield for him to try agin. Walker comes to help with the medal inside the shield to symbolize his new reslove. And then he lets go of the shield to save the transport because it was the right thing to do. Sam comes to the conclusion that no one should be captain america as it was part of the legacy of steve and should remain a symbol for people to look up to an emulate rather than try and fill and the museum thing happens. I know this focues on walker a lot but he is important to sams growth as he should have been sams foil.

    Before this show Sam was just a side character helping out the main characters at the time. So they didn’t have time to focus solely on him and his personal life until now. Which is why it makes sense until now that he never talked about race. Also u seem to forget that in first cap movie the army wanted a regular strong soldier who takes orders and obeys. But the scientist was the 1 who wanted a good man to get the serum so if it wasn’t for him we would have gotten a complete different captain America

    I think people are missing the fact that lots of creative choices in this franchise were contingent on Mufasa and Scar being related. During production Scar and Mufasa WEREN'T related, but they decided to make them brothers because it made his betrayal more shocking. This is also when the crew leaned harder into the Hamlet parallels. This is ALSO why Lion King 2 establishes multiple times that Scar wasn't Kovu's father; Kovu WAS originally his son, but they changed this after realizing it would've made his relationship with Kiara incestuous. This wouldn't have been the case if he and Mufasa weren't related.

He will be adopteb by Scar's family (which is royal) and will be raised like royalty with his adoptive father likely teaching both Scar and Mufasa everything they need to know - including the great kings of the past. That's the knowledge he will give on to Simba. Where's the problem? I don't see it. In fact it makes even more sense on why Scar is so freaking jealous that he's even going to kill his brother because he was original first in line but will most likely fuck up on something pretty hard in the movie so this will go to Mufasa instead

Not everything must be explicitly said or shown in order for us to understand or deduce something obvious, and I *doubt* anyone would be buying this lame ass retcon of his origins if Mufasa’s trailer never said a word about it (one more reason why I hate Disney live action remakes).

      I see your point, but Mufasa’s blood connections to royalty is implied not just by his demeanor in the scenes from the og movie I’ve put on my video, but also by Scar openly stating how he lost the throne after Simba’s birth. Remove Mufasa’s birthright as the heir to the Pride Lands and Scar’s whole plot from The Lion King 1994 (and the plot of the og movie as well) makes no sense.

      Sorry, you’re right. Mufasa becoming king wouldn’t change Scar being second in line to the throne. Plus, there’s this article with a bunch of screenshots from Twitter of people talking about a book (that is said to be canon) that tells the story of Mufasa and Scar in their youth, showing how their parents were royalty, which shows how the trailer retconned Mufasa’s backstory even further. fandomwire.com/this-sht-is-so-goofy-mufasa-the-lion-king-seemingly-changing-the-most-important-plot-detail-of-mufasas-story-could-horribly-backfire/

      The contradiction I showed in my video is not the existence of this Mufasa prequel in itself, nor its relation to the 2019 film (which was a remake from the original 1994 movie anyway), but the retconning of Mufasa’s origins. In the Lion King original movie, it was clear how he belonged to a noble lineage of kings since his birth (the 2019 remake version also left this fact unchanged). By saying that Mufasa was “born without a drop of nobility in his blood” is to barefacedly contradict that.

      I suppose because the 1994 version of The Lion King proved to be more relevant to people (me included) after all those years (30 to be more precise), whereas the 2019 remake has fallen into the bottomless pit of irrelevance, and since the 2019 version is just like the og movie but retold a 100 times worse, I suppose there wouldn’t be much of a difference if I compared the Mufasa trailer with the remake one or animated one (plus, the animation and og voice acting from the og movie were far better and more compelling in comparison to those from the remake tbh). Moreover, deep down, Disney *wants* us to remember the classic movie. They’ve been using the nostalgia for those animated movies to advertise their remakes for ages now, so I think it seemed only fitting to compare this prequel to the story from the original movie they are basing their remake on, but I see your point.
