Useful tool to open plastic cases is a set of guitar picks (plectrums). These are very cheap and will often open cases without damage.

There is no "squirrel proof" device. Put bird seed inside a vault and given enough time the squirrels will learn how to use a cutting torch.

We just tried it w/ the metal. We're still winning but I fear it's only a matter of time. We added an additional layer of protection in the form of a baffle so even if they defeat the slinky they'll have another obstacle to face. 🤷🏾‍♂️🤞🏾

The main problem was getting the case off. I had to use a blunt metal blade. I cleaned the circuit board button contacts with isopropyl alcohol (on some I could actually see the residue of the rubber buttons on the surface), but I cleaned the rubber key pad with a little water, washing up liquid and fingers - just rinse it off and allow to dry before replacing it.

Squirrel baffles can help. Also lace the seeds with cayenne, squirrels hate it and birds don't mind it.

Too funny !! We get outsmarted by rodents. Reminds me of a time my Dad was hanging apples on a clothesline so the porcupines couldn’t get to them. Next thing Dad knew, he had a porcupine crossing the clothesline upside down to get to his apples.

I would just get a strong bb gun and enjoy taking them out one by one
