Rosetta Jacobs was Piper Laurie;s real name. Piper began her career as a contract player with Universal International in the late 40's/early 50's. Most of these films were quickies churned out by Universal International to keep their contract players busy. While they trained in voice, singing, dancing, fencing and horseback riding, they were cast in films on the side. Piper Laurie played in every genre of film that was made at Universal that included Westerns, comedies, car racing, and swashbuckling roles. These films included The prince who was a thief, Son of Ali Baba, The Golden Blade, Has anybody seen my gal, Smoke Signal, Ain't Misbehavin and Johnny Dark, to name a few. The studio was really good for Piper's career. But Piper got browned off with light breezy roles and was eager to dig her heels into something strong and dramatic. This occurred when she left the studio to free lance and was cast in the film The Hustler with Paul Newman. Critics raved about her performance which led to an Oscar nomination. She was also most convincing in Until they sail with a huge case that comprised Jean Simmons, Paul Newman, Joan Fontaine and Sandra Dee. Piper continued to act in films and her star shone bright in Carrie, Twin Peaks and a host of TV segments, where the content brought out the best of her wide-ranged talent.
As a kid, that would have kept me entertained for half an Xmas day.
Bank of England inflation calculator says that magazine would cost 1 pound 20 today. Can you get anything similar for that price today? Or is the bank misrepresenting actual inflation. My guess is yes They are hiding the true effect with selective inclusion and averages.
Scotland needed a “Hotshot Hamish” for their perfomance recently
you are right there it was a sad day when he retired
I'm shocked to find out that Albus Dumbledore could sing let alone get a number one chart hit 1:15 There was more to that old wizard than meet the eye.
these wizards are cleverer than you think
As a 60’s music nut I found this very interesting. Looks like it’s from 1968. Thanks for sharing.
I h Music Videos while Singing all their almost 200 HIT SONGS,LIVE!!!...Just Visit my TH-cam Channel❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
OK...
I live in California, in 1963 I was in 8th grade and remembered some of the artists in this magazine. I see Hellen Shapiro listed but she was not popular here in the U.S. nor Billy Fury. I also see the Springfields listed and remember their 1962 hit in the States, Silver Thread, and Golden Needles which was when I zeroed in on Dusty. Dusty made it big here and I still love her. Thank you for sharing a time gone by. 🎵
Was surprised no Beatles articles?
Always a confusing publication. looked like a comic but you get the uneasy feeling you are back at school...
yes and for its time it was an expensive comic as well
@@bonsuivitthemoonlightergro3320 There was a 100-year-old bookshop at the edge of town. It sold mainly technical books including car repair manuals. All the dads used to be in there regularly. To keep the kids happy, they had a pile of comics in a side window nook. Only kids were small enough to crawl in there and sit in the window to read them. A big pile of old tatty Look and Learn mags were there too. We would try and find something fun in them, but never did. Especially when compared to the superhero, Harvey and Gold Key comics also buried in the pile.
Beautiful album; Gram's last gift!
Interesting that this Ronnie Goff and His Sextet wasnt produced on record, the sheet music selling on broadcast and live performances

Dan Dare relegated to the middle pages. Yet only seven years later Star Wars would take Science Fiction space adventure to a whole new generation on a popularity level not seen before.
Love James Darren god bless him his handsome looks and beatiful voice loved him timetunnel xxx🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thank you for this vignette from yesteryear! The Kingston Trio were important in the folk vanguard that brought new ideas, musicianship, vocal harmonies, and the mix of history, culture, and thoughtful expression to the world in times of crisis. Lots of humor and emotional depth threaded through their work, spicing up deeper thinking pieces about societal issues. No frills, no synthetic electronics, no vapid repetition. Just real playing, mostly acoustic, and truly masterful singing. Those were the days.
Love this movie great story great acting
She was so beautiful. Loved her movies ❤
With the other lighter sportscars in the range, this always seemed like a tank to us.
This was the boy racer car of the day.
These were nice little runabouts.
Artwork at 2:44 is great.
Dig the illustrations. Such skill.
How about some 1953-59 issues of Daily Mirror/Sunday Mirror where Lisa Gaye [Rock around the clock] appeared. Also an August 1956 issue of Tit-Bits which has a spread on the film Rock around the clock titled "Dig that crazy rhythm you cool cats". Shall appreciate these greatly. Thanks for your time and trouble!
This is interesting from the point of view of trash journalism. it's all useless sensational rubbish. but some people love that stuff. Theye accurately predicted the shape of the internet. When the Ai's grow to the point that they demand server space to grow, I can't say there will be a good reason for them to keep most of the stuff using up computer storage space at the moment.
Don't show a game
The Illustrated man on the front page. Always wanted to see that film.
no ive never seen it either
Nice cover of Cliff Richard from 'Summer Holiday' with all the suit-cases he's carrying; striking shot too of Glynis Johns and Ty Hardin in the sexy 'Chapman Report'. Lovely two-page feature on Kim Novak and James Garner in the hilarious 'Boys' night out'. Do try and give us something from the 50's covering Rock around the clock [1956] and Ten thousand bedrooms [1957], both of which films feature my top fave Lisa Gaye. She was also in Drums across the river [1954], Ain't Misbehavin [1955], Shake Rattle & Rock [1956], The sign of Zorro [1958], Frontier Rangers [1959], Night of evil [1962] plus Face of Terror [1964]. Lisa was a regular in the TV show "How to marry a millionaire" [1959-60]. Thanks for your time and trouble!
ill bear those points in mind and see what i can do for you
Affluent time. The global economy was pulling out of the 70's slowdown.
The year i was born in. My life like as dog .
first (not hi )
the Face magazine was one of the best. Right at the peak of the old ways, before computers changed everything.
wow. These stories and characters would have been spot on for kids at the time.
She will always be Jessica from logans run to us. What teenage boy didn't want a girlfriend like that materializing from a space vending machine.
i liked logans run great film
I love this beautiful Book of my favourite Movie Ben Hur ❤❤❤❤❤
Same here!
The sheer variation of music styles in the top fifty is shocking. Some real composing talent behind those commercial facades.
The way they blended two titles in to one in later years just shows how they considered readers to be dumb cattle to be told and manipulated. No wonder they kept losing readership. The immediate reaction to a twin title comic was not, twice the value, but rather, half the content.
Starting to look a bit like a horror mag. Androgyny creeping in. Saved by the back inside cover.
Hatari..if only there was a TV show like it.. we'll call it Daktari . Funny to see summer holiday as the " cool new film" rather than the cult classic introduced by the Young Ones tv show.
The Shadows with ab acoustic guitar?
All these obscure film titles. The bar for a story was very low before TV took away the audience.
The editorial staff are slowly selling out. Not respecting blank space as much. The competitions are a great idea.
The larger format does nothing for readability.
The monster of Highgate ponds. Never knew of such a film. just watched it. So many unneeded scenes and wooden acting. A little bit of work and it could have been good.
Thanks for sharing the contents of this magazine. Gina Lollobrigida looks gorgeous! My one and only fave, Lisa Gaye, had a solid fan following in Great Britain, especially after registering in the film "Rock around the clock" and its stupendous success. She did appear on quite a few British covers too like True Romances 1957, Daily Mirror, Picturegoer, Reveille [twice]., etc. Though Lisa was primarily a popular TV star, appearing on all the top-rated shows between 1955-70, she did grace a few films, among them being : Drums across the river with Audie Murphy, Ain't Misbehavin, Shake Rattle & Rock, Frontier Rangers, The sign of Zorro, Night of evil, Face of Terror and Castle of evil. She had a recurring role in The Bob Cummings Show 1955-59 and was a regular in the 2nd season of How to marry a millionaire [1959-60]. I look forward to seeing mags with pictures and articles of Lisa. Yes, there was a Tit-Bits 1956 article on Lisa in connection with Rock around the clock. Would love to see an upload of this magazine. Thanks for your time and trouble!!!
Connie Stevens was one of those familiar faces on almost every tv show in the 70's.
Malon Brando looking good.
I would say perfectly summarized with one exception…Elvis Presley is not one to be described. Elvis Presley is one to be experienced as one would a glowing Christmas tree, a sunset or a midnight sky filled with stars!
