The real meaning of "Germany above all" is back when it was first used, Germany was nothing but an area of Central Europe full of tiny German-speaking countries. It meant that above everything else, they should unite to form one big country: Germany. But now, no one really knows the TRUE meaning of "Germany above all". Most people think of Hitler and the Nazis when they hear the phrase "Germany above all". They think of Germany being superior to everyone else. As I explained earlier, that is NOT the true meaning. I sang the first verse knowing this and I have a love for anthems. I do not believe in censorship and I think that if the first verse, along with other Nazi symbols, are censored and banned, no one will learn about the horrible history that the Nazis and Hitler have caused. That means that Nazism and other hateful ideologies can come back if we do not educate people that that is not an okay ideology to follow. People don't read much anymore. They just assume. Long story short, I am NOT a Nazi. This is NOT meant to praise or condone the Nazis. I am sorry if you thought that. I was afraid that someone would think that. I hope you read this ENTIRE comment and I hope others can learn a little something too. P.S. Liked and hearted your comment because people need to know about the misconception about "Germany above all" and the Nazis.
