@@franciscolopez1917 Cierto, no?
I'm a big fan of the rolling tempo.
Yes! Insistent, like a lot of Chicago-based bands. Nice kitties.
Good stuff from Jimmy Shand; a different accordion sound as it was before he started using his red Hohner Shand Morino. I have a first pressing of that record. Unlike his EMI recordings, the recording dates for some of Jimmy's Beltona records are difficult to pin down.
Great masterpiece.
Dang that is good
Love Bernie's arrangement on this one!
Thanks for uploading these button box recordings. Love the tuning on that ol box.
Genial
Seit wann ist ein Walzer eine Polka
Ein Walzer ist ein Walzer und eine Polka ist eine Polka. Dieser Walzer wird jedoch von dem amerikanischen Phänomen „Polka Band“ gespielt. Thank you for restoring my sanity! Before my mom passed away several years ago, I was trying to tell her about the Golf Bowl. She, and my brothers & sisters, looked at me as if I were nuts. I even took her out to the present day Golf Bowl but nobody could remember the ballroom or bowling alley. The poster you had in the video confirmed that it wasn't a figment of my imagination. I had remembered it as a kid, before I-94 was built. My home was about 10 miles west of it.
@@CountryDJDave Sorry I didn't have that posted when you needed it! Thanks for the story!
I was just thinking about the three P's...Pageant, Polkaland & Pleasant Peasant. Between them a polka music treasure!
So true!

Interesting, the owner of Pleasant Peasant records is credited as the song's writer.
You know, just following in the tradition of A. P. Carter and John Lomax . . .
Miss Leo and the boys, what a run they had.
The first of many good polkas from Bernie's band!
Vea: vitak-elsnic.com/vitak-elsnic-company/#:~:text=The%20Vitak%2DElsnic%20story%20is,addition%20to%20selling%20music%20instruments. Gracias por escuchar.
Happy music! Love it.
I am from Slovakia and this Czech music is very close to me! Great!
No entiendo como escribis el titulo. ¿Cómo se llama esta pieza musical?
This popped up on my playlist out of nowhere. I used to play drums for Dunice in the late 60's and early 70's and I played on this record in a cheesy studio in Lafayette. We were not destined for stardom, but we had a lot of fun playing clubs. Sidenote- I was 12 years old when I started playing for him in Theriot's lounge and on the Henderson Levi. If any of his family is curious, my father was a teamsters organizer named Herbert and he and Dunice were friends. This took me back to a time I had long forgotten. Miss you Dunice, I appreciated how kind you were to me because I was a terrible drummer.
@@PeggySmith-fo2ed Thank you for that wonderful memory!
That must be a two step. It's too slow for a polka and too fast for a waltz.
Definitely an awkward tempo! Also done by Eric Olzen, a little slower: archive.org/details/78_anne-marie-waltz_eric-olzen-quartet_gbia7035759b

Yugoslav-American violinist, Steve or Stevo Zerbes or Стеван Зербес (or Zerbec) (22. May 1891.-before 1928.). I say Yugoslav on purpose, for I do not know whether he was a Serb or a Croat. His surname, variously spelled Zerbec or Zerbes, I was unable thus far to find anywhere. Born in Bjelovar, Croatia (then part of Austria-Hungary) as the son of George and Dora Zerbec (the names are thus spelled in American sources), he worked as a professional musician in Detroit, Michigan, where he married his wife, Agnes, née Wisniewska (apparently Polish), in 1911. Between 1916-1921, they are listed in Youngstown, Ohio; in 1917 he briefly lives in Akron, Ohio. By 1928, his wife appears in the Detroit address book as a widow. Zerbes' violin playing impressed fellow tamburaš Đoko Dokić (Djoko Dokich) so much that he persuaded his son Milovan a.k.a. Melvin Dokich to take up the violin. Zerbes was a leader of an orchestra, consisting of Stevo himself, who played the violin, Jim Kovacevich on first brač, Ljubomir (Leo) Baich on Second brač, Blaz Tkalac on bugarija and Joe Skornjak on Berda. This orchestra went by many names, such as "Gypsy Orchestra, "The Balkan Orchestra", "The Serbian Orchestra" and "The Royal Serbian Tamburitza Orchestra" (despite the fact that it had at least two Croats among its members, namely Škornjak and Tkalac). Zerbes was recording a lot between 1918/20. A few records of theirs are listed as "Orquesta Tipica Servia". They also made records targeted towards Polish Immigrants as the "Serbska Krolewska Orkiestra", which is not surprising, considering that Zerbes' wife was Polish. I have heard from certain descendants of Serbian and Croatian immigrants in the USA, that Zerbes, apparently in an inebriated state, urinated into the holy water of a certain (most likely Serbian Orthodox or Catholic) church. Finding thus himself at odds with the community, he returned to his native Bjelovar, where he died shortly thereafter. People said that the hand of God struck him for his sin. The more likely cause of death would be tuberculosis, or, perhaps, cancer, or some other disease. Whatever the case may be, he died quite young, his career ended prematurely.
Nikola, thank you for the expanded biography! A very interesting man. Take care.
@@mr.medisterpolse You are more than welcome! I had somewhere the origin of Jeftanović's dance as well, written down, but now I cannot find it! But when I do, I shall comment again here.
