i personally believe his " best friend" is kuina, and obviously the captain part is luffy. thats why he flashes back to the mihawk fight after losing he points her sword to the sky signaling to kuina and then says to her and luffy he wont lose again. he and kuina made that promise together that one of them will to be the worlds greatest.

Just because I didn’t immediately sympathize with buggys shanks hate due his crushed self esteem after the Roger’s execution flash back in 2 minutes, or ever consider any sympathy for him in the past. Or now with him at his lowest point being submitted by croc and mihawk and laughed at it doesn’t make my reaction fake dude. I get it I laughed at a character you like that I don’t and instead of actively giving context to that hate I just laughed. I don’t enjoy his falling upward character development it’s always pissed me off and the idolization of him because of that always felt lame to me and for someone who’s had to work around people who fall up yeah in my actual life it’s frustrating and annoying to see. His parallel rise to yonko accidentally or just by fate while luffy grinded his way there is obviously intentional, how that pays off at the end who knows. Sure he has a huge ceiling if he can awaken his devil fruit but we’ve never seen anything near that. Maybe now that he’s broken through his inhibitions after being beaten down so badly and declaring his dream he can do that. That would certainly earn the respect of his cross guild partners, but that’s still a MAYBE. And him doing that once after all this time didnt choke me up or immediately make me reconsider his character. As much as I appreciate your hate to my shitty take during this reaction on buggy’s big emotional speech, that doesn’t make it fake. It was real and more often than not with this show it takes thinking about context of all events over time to form and opinion especially with a situation like this that recontextualizes the entire character in half an episode. Buggy is a VILLAIN who falls upward in my mind therefore I don’t sympathize with him, so this is a comedy to me and I reacted like that. I’m assuming you read the manga? Anyway thanks for shitting on my reaction and challenging me to think about buggy’s context and dig deeper on it outside of just viewing him as a clown (which he literally fucking is) I have minutes to react I don’t have hours to contextualize a whole character over 1,000 episodes so my bad dude.
