ACT Twin Disc Evo 5 install - Unexpected ending
Last few weeks I've been waiting on parts for the Evo, I finally installed the ACT Mod Twin Disc 225 and although the install was straight forward for the most part, we ran into a major problem at the end.
Stay tuned to Part 2 where I dig into why I not have an oil leak after 20 miles of driving....

Evo V is tuned but things didn't go as planned.
มุมมอง 1.9Kปีที่แล้ว
There are not many tuners stateside that have experience with the Evo V, so that caused some issues. I had the option to load an Evo VIII ROM but I wanted to use all the factory components from the V. After going back and forth, I was able to get the car tuned and it's running better than ever. Make sure to watch til the end for a bonus footage on my Buddy's car collection. Instagram: instagram...
Turning up the boost and doing pulls in my rotary Samurai!
มุมมอง 3.6Kปีที่แล้ว
Since the engine is hurt I figured it should go out with a bang.. After turning up the boost and taking it out for a ride I'm blown away. After some small changes it's running really strong and showing no signs of bad compression. I don't get it! New subscriber here .. Evo 7 driver ...love the cars, love the content. Keep up the good work man.
What is the running gear in this
Look nice
Let’s go! My son and I love your Evo (we love the Samurai too 😉)
Cleanest samurai I have ever seen bro
Beautiful V brother. I've had mine for just about 4 years now (was stationed in Japan) and brought her back with me to Tampa. I saw the amber corner lights in your seat there. Let me know if you want to sell them!
Good job!!!! I love your Samurai!! I want to know how you moved the hub to the eyebrow, what data did the hub use, and what changes did the hub make?
I subbed. Gotta see this Part 2! Looks like a nightmare.
I think rotary, or whatever drag style samarai's are really dumb. It's different, I understand the appeal for some people, but you're doing it a disservice. They belong off-road, which is where they excel at. Because of the aero situation alone, I would not choose a Sami, lol. They should only be off-road imo.
Did you forget to check the o-ring between transfer and gearbox was in position? BTW what is that tile flooring like? i can imagine it fills up with a lot of dirt etc... or is it ok to vacuum clean?
I just picked up a silver evo 5 while I'm stationed out in Japan! That Y plate tells me it was an American owned car here lol
off rip...... dislike the wheels? dude they dont even come with the car. how do you dislike them? lmfao wth i already closed out the video
車を映してくれよ。
The TOB is the only hard part of the clutch replacement….had to unbolt the pressure plate bolts to get mine out. I have a IV, but same thing you have. I did my flywheel as well too. It’s extremely similar to the Evo 8 clutch replacement. It’s a little different but not very much. Using an engine hoist to put the trans back in really helped.
I had that clutch on my 9 and loved it, would get it again
Curious how this clutch holds up i definitely want to run one but not with the issues some ppl have had
I love your Samurai. What size are your rear wheels and the Nittos? They look awesome!
I love the look of the e5. Do you have many evo 5 in the USA? We mostly have evo 6 and later here in Oz.
You can get lots of e5 parts here in Australia if you can't get things stateside. We have e4,5,6,7,8,9,10 here. plus a few e1-3 too.
Can you guys get front control arms?
raif is the man!! my 8 was alll fucked up tune wise, 13.5 AFR & 11 psi of boost. now we're safely running 21 psi & it's a daily ripper
Maybe its too late but you shouldve drill the springs out on the floater plate for the act clutch. They have a tendency to break off and take out the whole clutch. Then you're stuck having to do the job all over again.
That is indeed an LSD inside the tcase. Open diff has a bar that comes down through the bore where the axles are installed/
Omg, that's right 😱 🙈 👀 lmao I should have known that. I used to fix those open diffs when they'd blow up 😆. I even shipped the little orange TRE pill into one to make it faux lsd for the owner.
Thanks for clarifying! I knew someone would know 🤙
Good stuff guys!! Very very informative! 💪🏽🔥
Great video man. You and your friend have a good on camera vibe.
Duuuuuuude. Que brutal, lol I feel famous. 😅 We got this dude 💪 🙌🏼
Bro… you’re hating and blaming the car… the wheels should be 17x8…Mitsubishi knew what they were doing… you seem to have a major problem, but it’s definitely NOT the car.. I have a mint condition beautiful EVO 5 but it’s driven in the right circumstances..🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
how do you feel driving with RHD with passenger front seat and back seat when switching lane or turning a corner?
Oh man. You should def get a tune before you drive it much more. Driving the car on 93 is honestly pretty dangerous, esp if it has an arftermarket tune. I love to recommend haltech, but if you’re trying to keep it all original, i would actually suggest Link. They have an option that you put in the factory ecu box that mounts like factory, so unless you crack open the ecu box you wont even know it has a standalone. It also popular with tuners right now. Anyway if you have any evo 4-6 questions reach out and im happy to assist!
Hey, I run a evo 4-6 shop here in the US. That clutch noise is not normal and i dont know of any aftermarket clutch or throwout bearing that sounds like that for these cars, unless itssomething old and no longer on the market. Anyway, just giving you a heads up. Somethings definitely not right. Def check the throwout bearing. Good luck!
whats the name and location of your shop?
whats your shop info?
What a killer day this was!
❤ The rs and lancia 😍
Very nice bro i have a Nissan pulsar gtir ❤uk🔰👊🏾
A/F ratio 12:1 is not lean, its RICH!
it is lean for a 93 tuned turbo car. e85 allows afr's in this leaner range, but isn't the case here.
The cut out is probably the iacv as mentioned. One thing definitely worth doing on stock evo 4-7 td05 turbo, is either a direct fit evo 8 actuator or an aftermarket one. The 4-7 actuators didnt have a protective hat design on the rod and all the water from the hood vents would get in and due to their positioning - rot them out internally . Leaks, inconsistent boost. They are the weakest link in terms of oem turbo setup. Grab an oem evo 8 actuator (not evo 9) 2nd hand cheap, youll be surprised at the difference in response even on same boost levels. Or even turbosmart etc One final thing to check if keeping the car, is vacuum leaks/boost leaks. Chances are the throttle body seals will be leaking. Common cp9a issue along with the oem actuator design
Great advice! I appreciate the advice! I’ll mess with it this weekend. Since the tune it is almost gone but still happens every once in a while.
Use a proper rotary compression tester I made the same mistake using a regular piston one. It’s not accurate with the rotary motor for some odd reason
I’ve never seen such a shiny Samurai. I love it!
Max alloy wheels on evo 5/6 is 8.5j and if it's lowered not more than 8j
5 things I don't like about my subaru ... Nope cant think of a thing 😂
Very nice example, well done :)
Only oem bro! Never have a problem!

Ive owned 9 JDM cars in Canada. RHD becomes second nature. You do hit the wipers when you mean to hit the signals if your going back and forth from RHD to LHD. But these cars are so small RHD has never bothered me. Take care of the car. Not to many clean classic evos kicking around anymore. Even in Japan. As for the different fuel in Japan. They use RON as there unit of measurement whereas we in north America use octane so the math isnt one to one. People see 100 RON in Japan and freak out but thats basically 95 octane. If your running 93 your perfectly fine. The difference will come with the elevatiom difference from Japan to wherever you live. So getting a tune woukdnt hurt. Ive never ever tuned a JDM car and ran 91-93 and never had an issue in the 10+ years ive driven JDM. If your struggling to find a way to tune you can swap the ECU to a 8/9. Or use EcuTek, a plug and play that allows you to live tune super easy. If you have an atmospheric BOV without a tune it will stall on you randomly. You need a recirc BOV or stick with factory. Also depending on the intake if you run an aftermarket intake without a tune it will also run a little lean and may lead to stalling issues.
same here, if you have the same car in both LHD and RHD then it would be a problem but I've no problem switching back and forth And as of fueling, if the car is heavily modified, it's still safer to get a new ecu and tune it on whatever highest octane you have, especially if you live in california and the highest here is only 91. For a stock car, 91 should be good.
Bro this thing is sick! I met you when you were working on my neighbors mustang. Those roads look familiar lol
That it's not a 6 ?
Exact same cars mechanically. Just different front bumper, wing, the seats are silver in the 5 and inverted pattern blueish purple in the 6, 5 has white gauges, 6 has blue. Besides that identical cars.
@@NotWBT jesus I had both and the 6 was alot sharper and quicker and yes both were completely stock ..the ecu also in the 6 is different
@@bla855 These are 20+ year old cars. How the previous owners treaded them, what was maintained/replaced, mileage, ect. No two cars are the same after 20 years. There are countless parts on vehicles. Bushings, plastic bits, gaskets, ect all wear differently. I have owned and driven about 7 evo 4, 5, 6. They are absolutely the exact same cars. 4 being slightly different mechanically.
@@NotWBTI totally agree with you bro!
What radio do you have?
here i was thinking my shitty little 92 sierra with a g13 to g16b conversion was fast and some what scary 🤣🤣 then here you are with a what i can guess is a 13b strapped to one
I love the Evo man, can’t wait to get one myself and have one parked next to my RHD Subaru WRX STI.
Im buying a nardo grey evo 5 tomorrow !!
sooooooo happy that its running so smooth with a ton of pow pow!!
my dream ride....such a beautiful beautiful machine!!!!
