We were glad to have them! Very surprised you have only found this out, you look about the same age as my self. Back in my youth things i still do are frowned at by some friends. I have had genes that i have not washed for weeks, shirts if you put them on the washing line to air if they smell a bit to air ( A trick i know but don`t use) its not really the clothes that need washing it is your underware, socks as well, at most your get 3 days out of them if you wipe your self properly and make sure you don`t have any spills when you go for a wee. It is also like, tin food, you can go well past sell by date as long as the tin has not popped, bags of potato`s , you can still eat them even if they have sprouted roots, just pop them off and use as normal. Always go through the bag though, there is always one that will turn the rest bad, if they have got to this stage. Oh if you have dirty collars on your shirts, to clean them up better, a little shampoo on there and rub in a bit, never had this fail. If you don`t want colour`s to fade on your genes and this works even better on camoflauge gear, where fading is a real problem, turn your gear inside out before putting into the washing mashine. The colour`s will last for longer, works on shirts also. Here is a neat one from my mum, god i used to hate it, but it was one handed down to her from her mum. So you got a sore throat if you have a cold, a tea spoon of sugar, pour some vinegar over it and give it a good soaking. Swallow that, so you get a good coating on your throat, but try not to swallow again. Then a tea spoon of hunny, swallow that, that puts a coating over the top. I think the idea behind it, is the vinegar kills the germs because it is acidic and the sugar makes it stick there, the hunny keeps it the longer. Then there is drying clothes, just hang em up on a clothes horse to dry, but what a lot of people don`t do these days is put them out side in the winter. they think warm air drys them only, which it does in part, but actually it is the movement of air the does the job. you can do an experiment to see this happen. If you have a vaccum cleaner, that has a blow end, put the hose into your wet shoe and turn it on. now watch it dry. This tip is really handy if you have wet hiking gear, as long as you have wind, you can dry your gear. If you want to save on using a washing mashine and you have a dry bag, put a few shirts of underware in there, You can use washing powder or washing up liquid in there, you will need the bag about 1/4 to 1/3 full of water. Make sure you got as much of the air out as you can, twist and clip end of dry bag. Now lay it flat on a level surface, and now rub (agitate it) do this for 3 mins min. Now rinse clothes, you can do the same thing. Now you have clean clothes. no electric used and also you can use this for hiking. There are videos on youtube that also show you this trick. I have load of trick, but this comment would probably go on for ever lol
