What this guy is saying is totally untrue. Ewe or for that matter all Gbe languages are remotely related to Yoruba and so share some few words together. Agbo (ram) is one of those words shared by those ethnic groups. Among the Ga Dangme who also originated from Yoruba areas in Nigeria, the word Agbo has transformed to mean big or strong, which of course are attributes of a ram.
So, tell me why the ram (Agbo) is slaughtered on the feet of a newly installed chief. Why is ram demanded from wrongdoers? What has a wrongdoer got to do with 'Big' or 'Strong'?
@@Nufiala1_TV Agbo is slaughtered because in ancient times, those in the forest zone or near the Atlantic Ocean did not have access to big farm animals such as cattle or horses. The tsetse fly was a contributing factor. The biggest animal we had access to was ram and that was what our ancestors sacrificed to the gods. In you go north, the emphasis was on cattle especially oxen. Agbo is Proto-Yoruboid denoting ram and strength. All Gbe speaking people and the GaDangme who originated from Yorubaland still carry some words from the original language. Yoruba: agbo: ram Gbe cluster languages: agbo: ram GaDangme : agbo: strong, thick and strong Have you heard the Ewe common saying ‘ Amea dzor agbo?’ Meaning the person is thick and tall.
You didn't understand why RAM is slaughtered on the feet of a newly installed chief. Who told you goats, fowls, duck, dogs etc were not have accessed to in the past? There is a reason RAM was used and the moment RAM is slaughtered on the feet of the person (newly installed chief), certain things MUST change. Amea dzɔ Agbo.......it's adagana & it means the person is a sacrificial lamb. 😃😃 relax & learn
Beautifully said. This story can be traced to Afa kponli GBESAN in Eʋe traditional spirituality. Its a story filled with vital life lessons.
