Actually, that's the first thing I thought of .Anybody now can paddle out at the bay.

I lived in Maui from 2000 - 2015. At first I lived in Maui Meadows near Wailea. I first found La Perouse about a month after I arrived on the island. A surfer friend (Johnny B) who moved there a month before me...he and his girlfriend wanted to take me kayaking becuase his girlfriend worked at a tour shop and could get us a free tour. So we drove down to La Perouse and there is this little bay place where at least in 2000 they launched from. Anyway...there are like 20 of us. Nobody wants to go first and get in the kayak so I say I'll go first having grown up on the water. I get in the Kayak and start to paddle around and then notice like 1km away a perfect lefthander (La Perouse) looking like a wave with nobody out. Well now I am torn. My friend and his girlfriend are getting in their kayaks and soo they join me in the water. I get Johnny B to paddle out til we can see the wave and he is in awe I say I'm sorry but I'm returning the canoe, got in my truck, and drove home got my board and went back to the parking lot...aka the end of the road unless you get a pass and have a lifted 4x4. Anyway I walked down the goat infested trail to find this wave. After a 20 minute walk I confronted an empty perfect glassy lefthander. I stashed my stuff in some lava rock holes and went surfing. That was the beginning of a history there. There was one May (forget what year) that I surfed 25 days the majority being completely alone. I was living in Haiku but worked at 10am at the Grand Wailea Resort poolside. I would drive down and get ther 30 minutes before sunrise, walk down with the goats, and paddle out to head high overhead perfect empty surf. Sure it's not completely empty as there are BIG TIGER SHARKS but whatever your risk to reward ration is up to you. Aloha Maui! Maui Nō Ka ʻOi

Maui - No Ka Oi!!!!

Wow! Old dudes on stand up paddle boards plowing through the lineup to surf the waves badly. Anywhere else in Hawaii, these guys would get clowned 🤡 Not one good surfer in the lineup. I guess that's refreshing since most Hawaii videos are all pro's. This lineup looked more like Northern California 🤙
