I was on that road today. It still looks horrid but compared to this... (like there is still a large truck on it's side on the side of the road. A tanker of some kind hanging off the embankment. buildings gone or leaning 45 degrees. chairs, tables, rugs, walls, all on what used to be sidewalks. It's 2 months exactly today. In Asheville, we got drinking water last week. The number of newly homeless people is inconcievable. It's going down into the 20s this week - people are in tents on what used to be their front yard. I'm ok, but so many are not. 2 months later. But to all who say the government wasn't here to help, I'm here to say they absolutely were. It took several days for anyone to even be able to reach these towns, my town. But once the highways were able to be traveled on, the army etc was here. (and there are still trees just cut off where they were crossing the highway and still laying on the guardrails. Driving around here is well, yeah. better than this now but still OMG, what a mess. For a few years anyway. Thanks for sending good thoughts to these people and people in other towns that just no longer exist. Not one building left standing in Chimney Rock.

The government need to get off there asses and help these people. There have been so many people told thet Fema cant help them. This is wrong. The government can send american money to these other countries but can't help there own people. This is just wrong people should not be living in tents in the middle of this it gets extremely cold up in these mountains

I’ve survived a couple hurricanes…MY situation was NOTHING like yours’ : I ACTUALLY GOT OUT OF TOWN, which saved me; I returned to…destroyed home; BUT…LIFE keeps going & I got on the list for a FEMA trailer; THAT kept me DRY, WARM, & the air conditioner worked well. LISTEN, guys, FEMA will probably generate a LOT of paperwork; keep up with this; nothing gets accomplished without this. LEARN from ME: FEMA actually told me they had given me too much money, & asked to be repaid; I SWEAR, “my hair turned WHITE! After a week, They sent ma ANOTHER letter, telling me the gov’t decided to “forgive” THEIR mistake…AND, I owed them NOTHING! SO, KEEP ALL the paperwork…for forever…. THAT SAID, the FEMA employees are good people, & they deal well with us survivors; NOW…I was STRESSED OUT by all that had happened, & I remember getting UPSET from dealing with it all; unfortunately, I was ALSO sitting at the table with the FEMA worker; I just remember I started yelling AND SCREAMING at this FEMA EMPLOYEE& what she was asking…SHE handled this well: she guilt talking, & sat there, silently while I LOST CONTROL… I was hysterical for a couple minutes…THEN, we continued carrying on with the endless paperwork. (CALAMITY AVERTED…). THE LESSON for y’all: KEEP THE PAPERWORK!! Y’all WILL get through this; things MIGHT look different…BUT… y’all WILL adjust..And “put one door in front of the other…” DAY-BY-DAY!! “. PLEASE, TAKE CARE…. ❤️❤️‼️🥰

These mountains were our escape . Don’t want to see anything else destroyed up there . The mining company is going to have a fight for that land. Will be helping there as soon as possible

Loved going to North Carolina every year. October 26 th was my husbands birthday. So we would go just to see the beautiful colors of the trees. My husband has been gone for almost 7 years.. Have missed these trips to see these beautiful mountains .I’m planning on going back there .

Well lets see how many paper towels Trump will throw out to people here....
