TUNING FIR MINIDSP 2X4HD, REPHASE, SMAART
มุมมอง 69510 หลายเดือนก่อน
USING SMAART AND MINIDSP 2X4HD'S WITH LOW TAP COUNT. GETTING IMPULSE ALIGNMENT AND LIVE PHASE CORRECTION. 1024 TAPS AT 96K SAMPLE RATE. WATCH ME FUMBLE AROUND AND GET A GOOD PHASE VALUE ACROSS A MULTIWAY. LOW FREQUECIES WERE HANDLED AFTER SPEAKER ALIGNMENT IN UPSTREAM OPENDRC AFTER SPEAKER CORRECTON.

Set phase delay to left channel and I’m viewing live on right channel. Using signal delay to view the phase move up and down. This is a good way of seeing that tape measurement distances are pretty much always right. Only in the HF (tweeter) an impulse alignment is necessary. There so much phase in the midband even a little off isn’t a lot. Enjoy
Little trick that sounds good for smaart

How to remove coherence from smaart v9 to rew or remove coherence from rew before exporting to rephase?
Export to ASCII simple txt file
@@slateraudio Hi sire is there a part where you fix the signal? Do you make it flat and follow house curve?
@@slateraudio My coherence (magnitude especially in bass) is always low and i tried to edit the Mag threshold also changed and played with fft16. What are your tips for that? I calibrated my mic with digital calibrator 94db and also tried 114db. Thank you.
@@avia4281yeah , typically I’ll run it with auto eq in REW and export the eqs , then ears to upstream L+R eq to get spectral balance right Or use the eq in OpenDrc for ear work.
I want to use this DSP for 3 way active, 2 rear fill and 1 sub. Will it be able to do that? If I understand correctly it only allows 8 input channels
Inputs don’t master Its 8ch of Dirac correction and 12 channels of output So yes you’ll have more then plenty of correction You only need 2 Dirac correction channels I would do 4 2 Dirac correction on fronts and sub 2 on rears, and then use the output filters to pre-tune it and get the phase coherent first and then do two channels of direc over everything
Could i use fir filters with my minidsp flex on passive 2 way + sub?
Yes , in 2x4hd mode or 2x8 mode yes , as long as not Dirac, manual FIR blows Dirac away badly, but must use smaart to get the data , REW won’t give good results Must have dual channel fft to get good phase data
@@slateraudio thank you for your answer! I am still trying to wrap my head around this. I read somewhere that with rephase the crossovers had to be -24lr. I will watch your video again! Will opensoundmeter work as well?
crossovers never HAVE to be LR, never… you are free to choose what works best for you. LR4 has good behavior, but there are others that also do
'Age of Love x Heute Nacht l Huge Moon Mashup' try this one... bit more trancy but it'll test ur lil speakers good
Yes I just tried it , ich leibe so sehr !!! Danke
ma fav song! thought it was studio recorded for a sec coz ur car sounds were good as quality! post more shit guys nice
Why wouldn't you sit in the driver's seat, or have someone else sit there, while you run the setup? A body in the seat will play a big role in absorption and reflections, ultimately changing what the tuning software should be doing in relation to amplitude and EQ.
The 1st preset was all in driver seat This customer wanted a passenger side tune , (I think he makes his wife drive on long trips) Also , the Dirac tune yet is good , isn’t anywhere near as good as a mult mic array in smaart. But still pretty good. Its phase correction works nice tho. I noticed almost no difference weather tuning in or out of the car, in some ways its better out because the body isn’t blocking reflections that otherwise needed to be in the measurements. Apples to apples , I heard no difference weather in or out of car, and that’s with a few hundred different cars I’ve done with Dirac
Sir, what is APF?
All pass filter
How wild, driving around blasting the royalty free tunes 🔥🤟🏻🥴
He’ll yeah
i wish more ppl covered automotive dirac, do you know if its any different than like DIRAC for home theater processors / avrs?
It’s the same exact version as a home avr …. It works decent in a car
How can I get that mic stand ?
It’s a 35$ batter powered fan from eBay , I removed the fan then put the mic clip on
Lots of 666 tonight..... FIR, the devils filter! 😂😂
Lol … indeed it is 😈
Thanks for showing us your work in real time! If I were to insert the Open-DRC DI in between my topping D10S and my helix v twelve via toslink, would I have the same capabilities to adjust FIR like this? I'm still trying to wrap my head around FIR
Yes it would be even more powerful then these. Although the OpenDrc is a room correction dsp for 2ch … This is a driver correction DSP that also handles the room aspects, this one can’t correct in FIR below about 100hz… I have a video showing the OpenDrc in my videos. The OpenDrc will net similar results as I am doing, you just have a much much harder time getting all of your channels to track phase the same. The helix is very capable. So yes , you’ll net the same type of sound.
Smaart better than dirac or audessy i think so. Im thinking about get a dsp car amp and connect from pc to denon avr. Can you suggest a 6 channel in 6 channel out dsp amp please. Thank you.
Helix P SIX DSP ULTIMATE. Worth it. Don't contemplate.
@@Alastasius Price and models for least expensive 6 channel. Looking for hdmi version 5.1 channel like minidsp.
@@avia4281 Why HDMI?
@@Alastasius I’m using pc 4070ti to denon avr 5.1 channel.
Wonder there be any hum if I use from oc to avr. The cheapest way to do 5.1 audio.
Not sure what u mean You can use the 8x12DL in a home with a simple 12V wall wart that can do 10A It’s actually really easy and it will be perfectly quiet
Hi what’s the cheapest pre amp with 6 channel in and out via rca or amp with sub out. Thank you sir.
great video! where did you get the mic stand from? did u buy the DL version of the DSP or did you upgrade a non-DL version? can't get mine to upgrade.
It’s a customer car , it’s DL. Contact support@minidsp.com
thank you for this video!
No worries. Remember an APF needs to be a frequency dependent delay and the phase needs to be one cycle out If it’s just a quick delay an APF isn’t needed
What's the software? Systune?
Smaart v9
God dammit lol. I wish I didn't have to pay the better part of a grand to do live phase.
is this before or after xo and eq, keep up the videos i find them very informative and interesting to see your approach in tuning systems. thoughts on the new audison dsp amps software capabilities and sound .
This is before any crossover filters. It’s easiest to “see phase” with no filters. Crossovers off is where system phasing should be done. Thanks. Yes I keep them as reference to help answer questions that pop up.
@@slateraudio When capturing tweeter traces, do you use pseudorandom on SMAART and just set freq start range at a higher freq but below probable xover cut offs or do you still do random pink noise but at a lower level since you do phasing with xovers off. Thanks for the video. just getting started on SMAART
I'm watching your videos I came across you because of the mini DSP are you a professional installer? If so where are you located?
Colorado , Denver metro
Have you done more comparison to your mic array? I'm surprised you haven't gotten more feedback on this!!
I have update my mic array now to 4 earthworks M23R mics
I've always wanted to try active crossovers, is it worth it over using included crossovers (assuming good speakers and crossovers). Seems like the crossover setup with Dirac Live is easy, just wondering if it actually worth getting and fitting another 4 channel amp to run the tweeters.
Yeah Dirac does a fine job at summing crossovers… yes it’s very good
so many things wrong with this video I don't know where to start
That it’s not complete ? There nothing wrong with it , the car won in comps … It keeps the minimum phase in the crossover, it works tremendously good
WTF is all the noise ....
Where can I get the program? Could you send it to me?
It’s on rephase.org
Great info, Andy. Thanks.
Which one would you recommend? A. C-DSP 8x12 V2 (No Dirac Live) B. C-DSP 8x12 with Dirac Live C. Harmony DSP 8x12 Dirac
The 8x12DL , that one is very good Don’t get the harmony The low level conversion is goofy
@@slateraudio Thanks bro. If I get the one with DL, and one day I decide to manually tune the system (without Dirac), will I be able to do that? Asking because I'm still not sure of how the whole workflow works.
@@AnasSuhaimi Yes with outputs But you’ll want to use Dirac
@@slateraudio Thanks again, man. May god bless you for your help.
@@slateraudio Bro, it's me again. I've been considering your advice, and been finding non-DSP amplifier solutions to pair it with C-DSP 8x12 DL is very challenging. 1. I need 12 or at least 10 channels amplified, so that's either 2 units of 6 channel amp, or 6+4 channels, or 4+4+2. It either gets expensive, or take a lot of space. 2. Using TPA3255 boards meant for home theater call for the use of bulky 12v to 36v DC boost converter. And the cost of 2 pieces of 6xTPA3255 boards + 2 boost converter is not cheap either. Plus it doesn't have all the noise and clipping protections. So I'm wondering what do you mean by the "low level conversion is goofy" for the Harmony one? The harmony unit only takes USB input and also SPDIF. There's no low-level input. Are you talking about the low-level output?
How many hometheater subwoofers can I connect I have 9 small subs lying around my house I'm a sub collector
As many as you want, if you wanted the dsp to be a sub only dsp , we’ll there’s 12ch and 8ch of Dirac live So 8 sub locations and 12 total amplifier ch
@@slateraudio can I do 9 subs or is 8 the limit to use with Dirac live? Or should I just buy 2 of these and use them on 2 of my sub out on my AVR?
@@BIGBASSSAMA_4 You can use as many as you want, you only can use 8 Dirac ch So that’s 8 locations in the room , tech location you can hook up multiple amps and have as many subs as you can fit and fed off each ch using a pre amp This Unit does 12ch of audio , that’s 12 rca jacks into amps , and 8ch Dirac ch You can split the ch and add more , make since It’s over kill tho and I don’t recommend it but , you can
@@slateraudio u don't recommend using 8 to 9 subs u mean?
@@BIGBASSSAMA_4 I would analyze the room and see what you actually need If you just want loud , then I can’t help you This is for sound quality
The mic should be pointing directly up.
Actually no it shouldn’t….. The speakers are to the sides, that’s about 30deg ish that’s mic pointing straight forward , tilting mic up adds a tiny bit more… all the way up is fine also , because in a car , it’s reverbant field is pretty intense, there’s sound coming from all directions , so it doesn’t matter where the mic is pointing and only affects about 1db in the very top octave… In a free filed Situation we know the exact source of the sound so a cal file is important to use the correct one, in a highly reflective field, a cal file of zero or 90 will work with mic pointing about any which way you want in a 180 deg x and y axis pattern…. As Long as mic isn’t pointing to the back window the polar response of the mic is of no concern as well…
Very cool, did you pre enter measurements for time alignment to the mic?, or was compete DL tune?
It’s a full Dirac 8ch tune Dirac does TA , gains , and eq and phase correction I used 2nd order APF with crossovers off , measured all drivers Made entirety of response the driver can do with crossovers off follow same target, after measurements, turn off all pass filters and turn crossovers on The APF is q.7 AP2 centered at where the crossover will be , that makes Dirac see a crossover and correct the phase shift of the crossover, even tho the crossover isn’t applied yet
@@slateraudio can't wait to get my cdsp 8/12 in and tuned
@@slateraudio how would you rate the overall sound quality compared to let's say a helix or any others along those lines?
@@mountain.audio247 Better in most cases because Dirac can do some time alignment per frequency and remove group delay , where helix can’t But that entirely depends on the system and tuner , no replacement for proper install and placement and execution…. So a helix can be very good , this is probably miles and miles better for a novice tuner with unequal path lengths
@slateraudio hey bro...am havingbhell getting the dirac to (hear) the impulse signal...keeps.saying too much back ground noise ..any help? Can u dona remote tune?
Great video for those of us learning to use DL. Thanks for creating and posting it.
