    I hate the most leaf springs, especially in the front, they sag and crack. Other than that steering box seals. Also front shocks are too short from factory, there's a lot more travel in the leafs adding to horrific ride second only to Suzuki Samurai.

      Interesting, I put one in my ln106 and it fits no worries. What issue did you have? Genuinely interested because there seems to be a bit of confusion about what is interchangeable between the 5L & 3L. For anyone who's interested I have a 5L bottom end with Ln167 sump in an Ln106 with 3L head, injectors, pump and all other bolt ons using the 5L head gasket. Runs like a dream. Only ended up with this set up because I did the bottom end in the 3L and already had a good 5L bottom end sitting there. Saved a heap on a rebuild. Cheers

    All just maintenance over time if you buy new one your spending money on them from day one and there far to much electronics bs on them now that are a headache when they start playing up services every 15000ks anywhere from $800 to $1500 + after 100,000ks the big bill hits you that can cost you thousands. But most new vehicles after a 100,000ks the motor is done as there just not built to last. There use way more fuel and the listed goes on.

    Agree with all you said. Have a 96 version. Also recently replaced front calipers, made a big difference. No steering box, however replaced the pitman arm. I've owned it since new and love it. Son had 31in tyres on it, I went back down a size when I got it back. Made a huge difference going up hills and braking.

    This was super handy. I’m driving my boss’s 2011 Mercedes Vito but looking to buy a vehicle of my own. The Vito has had the power steering pump die, the fan doesn’t work - neither does the AC and I’ve replaced both brake and headlights in the 4 months I’ve been driving it. I think an old hilux sounds like a great upgrade haha!

    Liam, your sense of humor is great. I agree with you on everything. I have a 1988 LN106 and am considering adding a turbo for a little more power. Barrima Diesel for example in Australia has been safely adding turbos to these engines for 30 years. I hear as long as the boost is kept to about 10psi and the fuel is kept lean, it is safe to do. What is your opinion on this? Would you consider adding a turbo?

      In case you’re wondering, I’m living in Japan now, but my double-cab truck is back in Canada 🇨🇦. I forget the box length. I think it is 5 feet, but I forget exactly since I haven’t driven my truck for 10 years. I’m thinking the box could be even shorter than 5 feet. I’m currently researching canopy options. Thanks!

    • @ShikokuFoodForest
      @ShikokuFoodForest 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@samguenther3177 Hello! Where in Canada 🇨🇦 are you? The Toyota LN106 performs very well in Canada. The cold doesn’t affect the performance at all. I’ve always known, the air has a higher concentration of oxygen at colder temperatures, so perhaps improves performance. That’s why cold-air intakes are popular. I’ve done some driving in the snow only when I’ve had to around town. This truck can go anywhere. Snow is no problem at all up or down hills. I haven’t considered selling it at all, since I know this truck will last for generations because it’s built so well. This truck was like new when imported from Japan. It’s hardly been used over the past 12 years. But, it’s been maintained and driven to and from a summer home throughout the spring, summer and fall. I may consider selling if I received an offer I couldn’t refuse. I know these solid-front axle, diesel trucks have become harder to find in recent years.
