I believe in playing things by ear. The crew doesn't seem alarmed by the last wheel on the tender being off the rail the way it was (notice that a crew member clearly sees it but does not call for a stop and the crew continue to slowly move the loco forward). In fact the crew are moving the loco very slowly (slower than walking pace) and walking alongside the loco watching its every move like when 4014 has to negotiate very tight curves (there's a video of 4014 having to carefully negotiate curves at Denver and another one at some diamond junctiona few years back where they did the same thing). Only the very front of the tender has a swiveling truck, the rest of the wheels are on a rigid base. It looks less like a derailment and more like they're walking 844 through a tight curve and the rear wheel just ever so slightly hangs off due to the curvature. What would be nice to see is what happened after the loco got back on straight track. Either the wheel went back into place or the tender properly derailed and they had to stop to properly deal with it.

The video here was shot over two trips, returning from Railfair 91 in mid-May, and the "Shasta Daylight Special" SP publicity excursions over Labor day weekend 1991 following the Cantara loop derailment and chemical spill (also known as "The Toxic Daylight" or "Dead Fish Daylight").

He doesn’t know it but on October the 11th I’m going to taking my autistic son on a skip school day to Fort Worth Texas to see his favorite locomotive this Big Boy! 4014 is of half a dozen World wide renowned locomotives of all kinds including a bullet in Japan, but he is wild about Big Boy. He’s 14 and it went through our neighborhood recently around 10pm on the UP track up the street and wouldn’t you know it, he was at mom’s house! Ugh. I didn’t know it was coming but inHEARD IT. IT killed me that he wasn’t here. Nevertheless he’s skipping school to go see it before it leaves Texas.
