TRIP REPORT I Iberia Business Class I Airbus A330 I 🇪🇸 Madrid MAD to London LHR 🇬🇧
Trip Report flying Iberia A330 Business Class from Madrid (Spain) to London (UK) as we test one of the best business class flights in Europe!
Iberia operates two daily flights with widebody aircrafts between Madrid and London, one with the A330 and one with the A350. These types of aircrafts are normally used on long flights, so the comfort is on another level. We've travelled Business with Iberia on European flights many times. This experience would however be much better!
On the Airbus A330 the seats come in a 1-2-1 configuration. The seat converts into a 2 meter long bed, and is really comfortable. Way different from the standard blocked middle seat you normally get in Europe! The crew was service-minded and the food was great. And oh my, Iberia's VIP lounge in Madrid is fantastic!
For this flight we paid 200 EUR. Business on Iberia includes priority check-in and boarding, free luggage, fast track, lounge access and food onboard.

My fave plane along with the A350.
The went for a cold soviet look. They should have used a more warm palete.
Their business class seats are OK and basic. Never can compare with a Business class in Qatar that continues its success in the Business Class awards or those from Emirates. Good video
Thanks for the comment! I have never flown on Qatar or Emirates, but from what I see, I think it's difficult to compare them with the European ones. In Europe service has been going down, steadily unfortunately. Iberia's food is great though, among the best in Europe.
Basically, as you might know, Iberia and British Airways are the same company since they merged in IAG. I always suspected these flights with big planes are connection flights between their two main hubs, some of the flights are operated by Iberia, some others by British Airways. Between both companies there are almost 20 direct daily flights from Madrid to London (including a couple of them that are operated by Iberia Express to London Gatwick rather than Heathrow), as you said, two of them are currently served with big airplanes, but I used to be a frequent traveler on that route and both Iberia and British Airways use to have a seasonal connections from time to time with big planes. Also they sometimes upgrade the planes if there's demand (e.g. after air traffic disruptions on the route), of course this is my personal perception, not official info. Sometimes they are just positioning planes (for maintenance?) or sending cargo. I once went on one of those British Airways long haul planes from Madrid to London and we were just 7 passengers.
Yeah, miss the times when airlines were a national thing, especially the old livery of Iberia, it was nothing like a 13 hour flight from Madrid to South America without personal screen at the seats :D That they use these big planes for cargo, positioning or maintenance makes a lot of sense. I often see British Airways, Aer Lingus etc at la Muñoza.. This flight here was far from full, at least in economy.

They use the A330 and A350 due to cargo from London to Madrid and to Latin American destinations, that is the main reason.

This must be only that particular route; it's my hometown airline and it's definitely one of the worst long-haul business class products out there. Short-hauls are usually just ok, but it's looks nice here.
Yes, Iberia uses A330 and A350 twice per day on this route.. so of course much better than the standard A320 etc :)
@@welcomeaboardHD I was more so referring to the overall service as opposed to the aircraft itself. Many times the I've encountered dirty cabins, rude staff, the amenity kit is one of the poorest on offer in the industry. Food on the long-hauls is very scarce.

My favorite lounges in europe: 1. Iberia lounge T4 and T4S Barajas 2. British Airways T5 Heathrow 3. La Premiere Lounge CDG Air France 4. first class terminal Lufthansa Frankfurt.

La verdad con lo que he visto en trip reports del AA321 no pasa nada, prefiero LATAM, te da más comida, si tiene TV a bordo en el asiento... Y aviones más grandes
100% de acuerdo contigo.. en general me encanta LATAM y en la ruta LIM-MIA operan el icónico 767 😁 En todo caso AA no está nada mal para un viaje así. Modelos más pequeños como el A321 es el futuro en rutas de menos demanda. En Europa compañías como TAP e Iberia lo usarán en rutas de hasta 8-9 horas 😅 Pero con asiento cama en business y pantallas en los asientos en economy..

London Heathrow Airport
Pulling back on the throttle doesn’t mean an attempt to save fuel. There could be a noise restriction in the area or the pilots could have been given a climb restriction in which they were told to not exceed a certain altitude until they got farther out over the ocean.
This is manual on all airbus airplanes. During takeoff the throttle is set on toga, as the plane needs more engine power. When in the air, at a certain point the pilot doesn’t need the same power and reduces the throttle to CL or climb mode, this probably saves fuel :)

I'm booked on this same flight next year. The UK wasn't in Schengen before Brexit so one had to go through passport control in places like Norway before then too. I fly BA a lot because of their frequent flyer programme and they're usually reliable and just OK on short haul. Catering wise, it's pretty disgraceful that a British carrier can't stretch to offering free tea in European economy ... the basics of hospitality here. Even SAS offers free tea/coffee! As for London Heathrow being the most chaotic airport in Europe ... Paris Charles de Gaulle says, 'hold my beer!'. 😂
Well best of luck if you are flying through LHR, such a chaotic airport, especially when you have to switch terminals.. I found the service good, but yes - they should offer some tea. Although free water and crackers is still something :) I just flew them in business, really impressive product :)

Hola :) American Airlines lo comercializa con 6 horas y 5 minutos. Dependiendo de la ruta, los vientos etc, el tiempo de vuelo se puede reducir significativamente.

This is two different Aircraft. I am flying the one making aborted landings as a part of our commanders training in LN-WDK. This is mixed with film from another aircraft arriving ENCN in LN-WDS. Winds are a bit gusty with a 10 kt increase on short final, but this is not the reason for going around. The aborted landings are a part of our training syllabus and perfectly normal. It probably looked more crazy than it was, these airplanes are great in adverse conditions. But very cool to watch!
Sitting in the very back of a turboprop on a crosswind landing is very fun. You get swung around like a pendulum and of course being at the back you feel every stomp on the rudder pedals a lot more! I can speak from experience from the old Fokker Friendship (showing my age) and the SAAB 340.
You really feel "as one with the weather"! Wow, the Fokker friendship.. that's a long time ago.. I only got the pleasure of flying the Fokker 50, still really cool though :)

I was 10 years old and it was one of those old "mystery flights" where you'd pay some ridiculously low fare simply for the fun of flying and having no clue whatsoever where you would end up. So Mum took me. These days of course they would fill the excess seats with people who actually have a need to get to the (obviously known) destination. Our particular "mystery flight", however, was from Kingsford Smith to Coffs Harbour and back (including the same snacks as the passengers who paid way more). I was already a bit of an aviation nut even as a 10 year old and now 50 years later the passion remains as strong as ever. Later that same year I got to fly in a DC3. That was from Bankstown and toured greater Sydney on a scenic flight. I was very lucky to be born in an era where what we now call classics were still in regular use albeit obviously headed towards being superseded - if not totally superseded - by then.

Did you check in a bag. Were they strivt with the weightm how was the overall flight
No, just travelled with hand luggage, which was free. No one checked the weight of this. Also with the lowest fare we got to choose Seat for free after purchasing the tickets. The lowest fare of Delta does not even allow you to pay for the seat, until 7 days before the flight, which does not guarantee a family to sit together. The flight overall was very good. Food could be a bit more/better, but service was good, the airplane was super modern and we had on-time arrival. All in all recommendable!

Yes it was a decent flight, stuff can always be better, but would not hesitate to fly AA again. But be aware, you are not allowed to bring water purchased at the airport into the plane when flying to the US

Hola 😊 Si, así es.. el bolso de mano sería un bolso o una mochila que cabe debajo del asiento. Equipaje de mano es una pieza que no cabe debajo del asiento, y por lo tanto se guarda en el compartimento superior ✈️
El despegue fue movidito!! El servicio como tal es muy parecido a lo que ofrece la competencia en Business, lo que hace que pierda muchos puntos es la presentación, parece más una comida de largo radio para economy que un verdadero servicio de business, por mucho que sea intra-europeo. Eso sí, la taza para el café o té muy bonita, no entiendo esa inconsistencia😅
Si, fue algo movido, como suele pasar muchas veces en Madrid! Tienes toda la razón, en muchos aspectos es muy parecido a la competencia. La business europea, lamentablemente deja mucho que desear. Sin embargo otras aerolíneas, como Iberia, Air France, Swiss y hasta Air Europa ofrece comida de un estándar muy alto, digno a una clase business. Las cajitas de KLM dan vergüenza 😂 Y si, la inconsistencia me hace pensar…
@@welcomeaboardHD Yo la verdad es que de las Business Class que he probado en vuelos europeos la única que me parece que vale la pena es la de Iberia, hay 2 opciones a elegir de plato principal, catering de DoYCo, que para mi es lo mejor que hay, la sala de la T4 está muy lograda y sabes que en general vas a recibir un servicio de notable. El mes que viene pruebo la Business de Finnair en el 350, que dicen que es de lo mejor que hay ahora mismo en aerolíneas europeas, a ver qué tal va la cosa!!
Iberia es mi favorita en Europa.. La que para mi ofrece el producto más completo, desde que llegues al aeropuerto hasta tu destino final.. Y la comida, como dices, muy muy buena, representa muy bien la cocina española! Pa’ chuparse los dedos! He oído muchas cosas buenas del a350 de Finnair, cuéntame qué tal te fue el vuelo! Así igual lo pruebo yo tmb!

No, no has tenido mala suerte. Las tripulaciones de largo recorrido de Iberia son las peores que he conocido nunca. Y en esta ruta específica he tenido las peores experiencias. Así que con esta aerolínea nunca más. No, you haven't had bad luck. Iberia's long-haul crews are the worst I've ever met. And on this specific route I've had the worst experiences. So never with this airline again.
Gracias por tu comentario! Sé que Iberia tiene cierta reputación, que viene de lejos. Sin embargo he tenido muy buenas experiencias en sus vuelos a Lima.. Pero me esperaba un trato aún mejor en esta ruta, ya que hay más competencia saliendo desde EEUU.. Pero en esta ocasión falló todo.. la comida, el trato (que prácticamente fue inexistente) etc.

what an ugly airport is Miami Airport! and disappointing catering in Iberia BC. Poor selection. Also KLM is soso...Don't know which airline to choose now...
Iberia BC catering is really good departing Madrid, but not on the return flights.. You are right about KLM. Unfortunately it seems that its a standard in the industry, prices go up and quality does down :/ I would belieber that Air France still has decent catering, also on the return flights from the US..

Normally Iberia catering in business is oustanding. Second to none. Prepared by DO&CO surpasses entirely most airlines in the world. It’s aimed to please passengers who appreciate Spanish food. Other thing it’s your taste. Skytrax has awarded Iberia as the 14th best airline in the world. They have some issues with other aspects in the daily operations, but catering in business is not one of them.
Estoy totalmente de acuerdo contigo! Sin embargo do co solo hace el catering en las salidas desde Madrid (y está a un nivel altísimo). En los vuelos de regreso, siendo desde EEUU o América Latina, Iberia tiene que usar otros proveedores de catering, y ahí la calidad obviamente no es la misma
