Thumbs down for me ! If your going to mentioned painting the bowl in the title than show the painting process ! That's what I wathed the vidoe for !! BUT The bowl turned out very nice !!

@@robertmunguia250 Hi Robert. The toolrest is an O'Donnel, I don't think they are made anymore. It may be possible to pick one up secondhand. It was a good spot by you it's very useful. Good luck mate.👍👍

I assume that you set the rest at the prescribed angle and then scribe and arc and then cut the arc using the rest at that angle.
@@garyfestarini9608 Your absolutely right Gary. Once you have found the angle your happy with scribe the angle of the wheel onto your piece of wood, mark it with the angle or specific tool its for, it's very simple, and you are sharpening your tools the same every time, and your saving steel. Hi, sorry the gentleman who made them is no longer in the club so I don’t know how much he sold them for.
Who dreamed up that camera angle? We can't see a damn thing. The wood, although it is spinning, appears to be still. We can't see the hat being developed. I'm not impressed!
Hi Eric, apologies for the camera angle when he made the hat, I see what you mean not much help. We had an overhead camera which the recording can be seen being used earlier in the demo. I can only assume that it had a problem and did not record or was forgotten to be set to record after a break (more likely). Then when we edited the two films together there was nothing from that camera to put on the finished video.

Why did you have to start making them from two pieces ?
Hi Darren, I can only guess as Stuart is no longer in the Club. As the hat is painted, to have it separate makes it easier otherwise you would likely get paint on the face.
I quit using stains a few years ago because they aren't colorfast enough. I airbrush acrylics, which are more colorfast, and I can easily control the spray/color coverage.
I use Acrlic airbrush paints more often than I use Spirit Stains. Having said that and depending on the type of base your working on all paints have their place. I must admit I've never had a problem with Stains holding their colour. Thanks for your comment.
Excellent job of taking us through David Springett's directions in his book. Your video is worth a thousand words and seeing always helps the process. Tried David's Chinese puzzle ball and must say that was the most frustrating turning project I've ever done in all my years. Didn't suceed and I do think with the aid of your video the Signapore ball is more do able.....Thanks for a well done video.

Sorry, another Question. do you use sealer before the stain, particularly with open grain wood?
If you sealed the wood first it would prevent the stain from soaking in, which is something you don't want. If it was Acrylic Airbrush paint you could seal the wood first if you wished as Acrylic sits on the surface. Thanks for the questions.
Hi, to what grade of paper do you sand, and what is the air pressure used?
Hi I usually sand down to 240 grit, and the psi is around 20. Hope that helps.

Nice video. Covered the most difficult part of the process for a beginner, getting the hole through the blank centered, quite nicely. I have found a 27/64 drill bit too big for the Sierra kit and use a 10.5 mm bit instead. De-nibbing comes from the car paint industry well before Chestnut used the word.👍👍

Hi, is there any information on the sanding bar seen in the video on the right hand side of the lathe bed at 11:30 minutes? It looks like a balloon on the end of a metal bar. I’ve seen one many years a few years ago on would like one for myself. Thanks
Hi Steve, I don’t recall where I got it from, possibly at the Harrogate show several years ago. It is literally a piece of threaded bar that screws into a ball. Going over the end of the ball is a piece of Velcro which splits into strips that go down the sides and then the ends get trapped under a collar held in place with a nut on the threaded bar. Probably easy to make one.

Hi Robert, sorry Stuart is no longer in the Club to ask. I think doing a search on google for craft supplies might find something or better still make some wooden ones yourself, they are not particularly difficult and then you have the satisfaction that you made it all.
Really interesting video on segmenting, like your detail of accessories. Well done on the camera work and presentation. Enjoyed watching

Zak this is a great peice. I am where you are. In lockdown we haven't got hands on turning advice so we experiment and there is no one to tell us we are wrong. In 2009 I retired as murder detective of 30 yrs I didn't have an artistic bone in my body. Now I am completely hooked on wood turning. I have spent best part of 2 grand and I now wish to upgrade my lathe to a herald. I have bought paints stains acrylics compressers you name it I have bought it oh and stuff from prokraft and also led lights from amazon. The point is I love doing what I am doing. Some stuff works and some if frankly for the the 🔥 but good or bad I love it. I can see via the zoom meetings your passion so be proud. You can interview me any time. Great video which is very humble but shows passion. well done zak

that looked dangerous screwing the carriage BOLT in as that adjustable was adjusted incorrectly and why didn't you use a socket and ratchet, or put the head in a vice and turn the block?
