That's the unfortunate grasshopper is about to become a stored food supply for the wasp's future offspring.

As things are and even though many animals, humans included, do show emotion, insects have NEVER EVER been known to show emotion!! Their brains are too small to act on anything other than survival and procreation!! So, as soon as I saw the video I knew something was amiss!!! A little bit of research - it took about five minutes - to find that it is NOT AT ALL what the description of the video says. It is NOT a female hornet burying her husband!!! First, it is called Cicada Killer Wasp. As the following link will show, “This species nests in the ground and provisions its nest with cicadas. As in many insect species, the males appear as adults first, and mating takes place when adult females emerge from the soil. After mating, females select a site and being digging a burrow.” The English are incorrect it seems! “being digging” from Smithsonian??? “Soil or sand is first loosened with the front legs, then scooted out of the hole with her middle and hind legs. Sometimes the female enters the burrow and pushes out soil with her head and front legs.” “The female then seeks a cicada in the trees,…. Cicadas are usually captured in flight….After stinging the cicada, the female wasp carries it back to her burrow…” “The female Cicada Killer lays one egg in a cell with one, two or three cicadas, then seals the chamber.” Cicada is a flying insect and is considered a pest. Wrong!! that's not her dead husband she's burying. If you look carefully, it is a grasshopper. In fact, the female digs tunnels below the ground for nesting. When the tunnel is ready, the female hornet kills an insect of appropriate size (usually a cicada) and drags it into the nest. She lays her eggs in the dead body of her victim, so that her larvae can feed on it while growing. In this case, she seem to have killed a grasshopper.

It’s not her husband. It’s a grass hopper which she is taking into a hole dug for laying eggs when her eggs will hatch her babies will need that grasshopper to kill their hunger.
