Fishing for Mollies? Everglades Adventure! Part 1
มุมมอง 21K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey there everyone! A friend and I decided to act on a tip we recieved, and went searching for the elusive wild spotted sailfin mollies! Sailfin mollies (Poecilia latipinna) are a native species to Florida and are the ancestors to many of the domestic Molly varieties found at your local fish store. By hybridizing these fish to domestic varieties, the resulting offspring are hardier and stronger...

    I am from Florida and I remember first catching regular black mollies in 2002 and then in 2007 was first time netting Sailfin Mollies. The first round was Green Cove Springs and the second time was in 2007 in Hastings, Florida. But I do miss Florida so much! These videos make me miss my home Florida.

    So are there any difference between these and the ones they sell in pet stores? Because even the bright ones that they sell in pet stores they do have a wild habitat right?

    This doesn't help your fish if you live in a shelter.

    Your hose is buring off half of the chlorine are your water when you spray it same with tap. Hornswort when you move it from tank to tank it melts back. Those needles effect water quality. I recommend sucking them up daily till they are done melting. Award tails do care about rocks and places to hide. They are a prey fish. They like to feel safe

    I know this is old, but I feel prime is the best water conditioner on the market. It has many uses. Legut prime is so strong that you only need one treatment not 2. You can only quadruple the dose of prime is if you have a ammonia spike in the tank or if you are setting up a new one. You are wasting Prime and over treating the water

    Thanks for the information. I'm looking to set up a 10 or 20 gallon with no filter. So far I can keep Bettas. Sword tails and platys. What other fish are good to keep with no filter?

    • @ocellatusking
      @ocellatusking 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was planning to, but due to the wild's genetics, none of the offspring show large dorsal fins... the line needs more work before I'm happy enough with the results to start selling. Thanks for the inquiry though!

    Do you keep set ups like this outside year round?

    • @ocellatusking
      @ocellatusking 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but certain species of fish may be temperature sensitive so it depends on where you are. For example here in south Florida, most livebearers are ok year round but should be covered with a tarp or blanket during stronger cold fronts.

    the only thing I can see that would be a problem with the water not being moved around is the film on top which I get, the plants seem to do when I have plants in a container with no moving water for them so I would THINK that would be a problem, I use to live in fla back in the 80's till the housing crashed on us in 08 so we moved to Indiana, & as far as a glass tank out SIDE I'd have them in shade cause it WILL get hot on them.
