Muslims in bulgaria are 10% of the population and this mosque in sofia is the only one for the city,there is a reageon in south--east bulgaria,close to the border with turkey,where there are concentration of muslim population in some villages and there are some mosques,while arround bulgaria in the bigger towns and citys there are not a lot of them,in my town vidin on the danube,north-west bulgaria,we have mosque wich is museum also we have one of the biggest sinagogues,wich had been renovated recently it is more than 120-130 years old and we had been waiting for this renovation from a long time,it was called the white swan of the danube back than,.(there are photos in google)....the sofia sinagogue is second or third biggest in europe,the biggest is in amsterdam,also interesting fact is that bulgaria is the only country in europe that saved all her jews from the gas chambers,50 000 people,the citizens and church officials stood infront of the trains and didnt let them leave for aushvitz,our tzar was delaying the deportation,by saying we need them for road construction,they were put in camps but just for the germans to see in the mean time they were like on a holiday and had good food and everything neccessary,now in israel their grandchildren are hundreds of thousands of people........about sofia,before 1944 it was jewel of architecture,but the british bomb it brutally without bulgarian army being involved in fighting the soviets or the british americans,it was a pure warcrime,after this the comunists didnt repair the old beautiful piece of art buildings but build new comunist style ones wich we all know are gray and without spirit or sense of art.....godspeed
