Review of NOCO genius 10 charger charging 12 volt lithium battery in RV
มุมมอง 27K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Review of how the NOCO genius 10 charger works on a 12 volt Renogy Smart lithium iron phosphate battery. I show the current and voltage during the final charging stages of a lithium battery. This charging profile is unique to lithium.
Does it charge lifepo4 battery? I am assume it is same as lithium battery?
Would you trust leaving one of these chargers attached permanently to a 12v 100ah LifePO4 battery? I have a radio repeater located at our lake house and would like to have it operational even during a utility power outage. I have utility AC power at the house, which is fairly reliable UNTIL a bad storm hits. I don’t have solar yet and we rely on a few Honda portable gasoline gensets for the occasional storm use. The repeaters use 12vdc power (11-14) with nominal 3a current draw and 13-15a when transmitting. I have been using DC power supplies with a home built lead acid charger / transfer relay and it’s time to for the 3 year replacement of the batteries ($600 + delivery for 4x 6volt Trojan flooded lead acid). So.. it seems like an ideal time to go LifePO4. Thanks!
can i re-use the gaskets?
I’m looking for instructions on gaining access to the manifold. I found a great video, but it’s not for the hybrid.
I wanted to see the Noco charge a battery. This was useless to me.
Hey I have a question. I have the same machine. Honestly speaking g do you think it's accurate?
lol. the NOCO 25amp and 50amps charger cost MORE than the batteries.
Did you notice any difference in mpg?
I have the bluetooth version of this. It's a paperweight one year later. And the Renogy "customer support" has left me high and dry. All they have done is suggest I buy one of their chargers, and ask me to answer question after question, which I thought was reasonable at first. But they have acknowledged that the battery has an issue, they just won't do anything about it. They work well while they work, just don't have an issue.
Dose the EGR coz a ruf idel, and missfire and the rpm not reach 3000 rpm
Cant for the life of me think of the name of the plastic that sits ontop of it that covers the front, anyways, how the hell do i remove that? Cant seem to find any videos on it lmao
They do have biger Amp charges now
i have a converter question. im in the same boat as you i m wondering how much your convert WILL charge the lithium. my converter puts out 15.3 v...in between using the noco could i use my converter?
the NOCO is AC powered. maybe you should look into a DC to DC Lifepo charger.
To connect between two batterys does RS485 go from LINK to LINK ? Or LINK to UP ?
Link to UP
@@kevinjohn5160 Thanks, after linking now both battery(s) are equal charged. Thanks.
Do you recall what if any codes from the carbon buildup?
My experience is a bad one. I spent over $400 for 2 batteries on Amazon to replace the ones in my camper. I called Renogy and got their opinion first. I then call WCO who makes the WCO 6800 series for my camper and gave me the ok, then I called Cruiser RV and they said it should be fine. When I went to the dealer the tech said no way. They can overheat when plugged up to shore power and you can't turn off the batter disconnect or nothing will work in the camper. I tried to return them to Amazon, unopened. They will not take batteries back.. They refused to take them back They refused to refund the money and they told me to sell them myself. I called Renogy and they basically told me TOO BAD. I wish I had read the Better Business Bureau reviews before I bought them. Do not do business with RENOGY..................................Bad Company.....................This is based on the truth and personal experience.
Does anyone know the lithium charge specs? I have a renogy 200ah using a 10x2, using one channel to charge my lithium. The battery has depleted to below 50% and the noco charger is still showing fully charged. If i turn the charger on then off again it then begins charging. Im curious if it will auto detect the low capacity and initiate a charge or will I have to do a reset on the charger to initialize? thanks
Mini Solar Winter Tip: You can steplessly dim down a Beuler and all other hungry electricity consumers with a 5000W dimmer (EUR 7). I run 5 dimmers in parallel on an 850W inverter. Kettle 2.2KW at 150W runs 12 hours a day, so the water is always hot. The room is also nicely heated. 2.5KW washing machine runs in parallel with dimmed to 200...400W. Iron, dishwasher, oven, electric heater, coffee machine, all internal heating are throttled with me. Videos about it on my channel th-cam.com/video/eC2olbCBhh0/w-d-xo.html The inverter stays cool, quiet and the MOSFETs remain intact because extreme current peaks no longer arrive at the inverter. Now every Mini PV Inverter is enough to sell large devices. So with the dimmer all internal heaters/devices can be turned into base load devices that stay almost permanently ON while drawing very little current.
Can you install them side way..? I mean up right ?? I don't have enough room left to right was thinking to install them up...I have 12 inch clearance vertical .....
Mine gets to 14 volts or so then jumps up to 18-20 volts and starts saying over voltage. When I unplug it my voltage stabilizes. Does anyone know what's causing this?
If we are talking about lithium, it's probably tripping the BMS
Just buy another one and use them both at the same time. 20 amp charge 🙌
Thanks for video, just bought two for my RV with the Renogy inverter charger as well, cheers!
New subbie. I almost bought this LFP battery. The high $$$ held me back. It sure looks neat. Great video 👍
I have a noco genius 10 on a new Renogy 100 ah AGM/SLA, why is "Maintenance voltage" only 12.8- 13 volts, instead of !3.5 volts like other maintenance chargers I have had?
If I understand the switch on the Renogy battery monitor act like the activating blue wire that come with the battery? I have the same shunt and I will purchase the Renogy monitor when available. I don't think I would continue to use the shunt, since the Renogy monitor give more. I also have the BT-2. I have 2 of these batteries but the self heating model. Will install them next spring
Yes, the switch that comes with it and the monitor will both turn it on and off. I also am using the BT-2. It shows more info including individual cell voltages and temp of the battery.
@@trailertimssmokeandwires211 did you find the way to use both Renogy monitor and BT-2 at the same time. I was thinking or using a splitter for the RJ45
@@windman1961 They sell the communication module to connect multiple devices to one BT-2, but I dont know if it would work for the monitor. I might order and try because it is cheap. I suppose I could try customer calling customer service but that is not always very successful.
@@trailertimssmokeandwires211 they tell me it could work with a splitter but since the monitor change the address each time it connect to the battery, I would have to relear6the batteries on the BT-2 each time it would have been connected to the monitor previously
Bought one because of your review. Thank you
I purchased a renogy like this one. It failed after trying to contact the company well they suck. I tried to get spare parts that didn't work. They tried to charge me for part of the warranty. Well what warranty. I short I will never trust this company I believe there batteries are no good.
how are renogy with 190 watt solar panels
Looks like a fire Hazard
Thank you for an excellent video. I bought one and very happy.
Awesome, did you get the monitor also?
@@trailertimssmokeandwires211 Yes I did. Very cool device since I can shut down the battery when not in use,
MY experience with Renogy was NOT good, their customer service is HORRIBLE.
I agree, had an issue with them shipping me the wrong product. Took multiple Emails to resolve the situation but they did eventually send me the correct product, and even gave me credit for the newer sale price after I asked. Being in Canada, Renogy products are easier to get at a reasonable price than items available in the USA, especially lithium batteries.
Cannot agree. They are an American company and I've had good customer service. Try that with a Chinese company.
For me was shockingly bad customer experience, took multiple emails for 1 reply on a £1000 return they were slow +2weeks on even aware it was back in there wear house..... really really shocked. If you message them earliest on a Monday don’t expect a reply until next day (if your lucky)
I am going thru the poor offshore tech support now with a 100ah BT battery battery that failed, they answer the phone but that's about it. wish I never went down this path with Renogy and stuck with 1 good battery and one failed battery and either suck it up and get another Renogy or a buy a new pair of some other brand.
@@jameswilson9019 The customer service is not american, and it is hands down the worst I've experienced. Stay away.
It seems like big time under kill to use a 10 amp Noco on a 100 AH lithium that's capable of taking 40 amps.
I think the 10 AMP version has other features that the Genius 5 didn't have like 12V Repair and Supply. Those two things may come in handy for the extra $30 otherwise I agree that the 5 AMP version would be enough with a battery capacity of 120ah.
@@chrismcleod2411 Rick is saying a higher amperage charger should be used since the lithium can take 40A.
This product may work great for Lithium but doe not work very well on wet cell deep cycle batteries. Voltage is not high enough to adequately activate chemistry on many wet cells
These types of batteries may be new to us I believe we are getting NASA's hand-me-downs, their old Technologies !
you had me at smoke
I like the Renogy LiFePO4 batteries, but they need to start making their terminal like Battle Born does. You cannot wreak a Battle Born terminal, lol.
I've got a pair of BB batteries and noticed the smartness that went into the battery connections
Is this the same as the HQST HBT100LFP12-GI battery?
Not even a bit. This has data comm ports, and has grade A cells for 4000 cycle life, not 2000 like the ebay one.
@@helifan1961 HQST is not an eBay brand, but supplier to other branded companies like Renogy
No sane person should commit to Renogy products! A- rating on BBB and 1.13 out of 5 customer review rating on BBB. Their after sales service/communication (or even before order delivery communication) etiquette and systems absolutely suck. I am immensely sorry that I bought a product from them without doing proper company research. The product may be good, who knows, but the company behind the product should lose it's business license.
In 2015 I drove out to the Renogy sales site in Chino CA to purchase their suitcase if it fit into my RV (it is a small RV). I called first to make sure everything would be ok and could be done. I bought it and had one very easy simple question. The numbskull said to ask a question I had to talk to their tech division and in order to do that I had to make an appointment for another day, lol. I told him I called first to verify that it would be ok, and that it was a 2 hour drive. Nope, I had to make an appointment. I was pissed. That said, I still buy their products. They do make good stuff, but their manuals are the worst I have ever read. They make the foreign country manuals look fantastic. Absolutely terrible manuals.
I was confused why the Renogy monitor kept showing 100Ah but then realised it shows it as the total capacity. Good to see that this battery can handle the draw it advertises. Now I've just gotta work out how long it'll run my fridge (I don't even know what it draws yet, it's brand new and hasn't been plugged into a battery yet). Nice video, thanks
Thanks for that. My small rv fridge draws about 9 amp at 12 volts on DC setting. Slightly higher running it on AC through inverter with all the losses. I normally run it on propane but will run on DC when driving and the battery is kept charged with my alternator through my Renogy DC to DC charger. Cheers.
Don't trust them the company is no good
⛔ Hello, I have a 75 ampere battery, what is the appropriate charger for 5 ampere or 10 ampere, and is the maintenance feature effective (3 year old battery) Thank you ♥
Are you referring to a 75 amp hour and is it lead acid or Lithium ?
@@trailertimssmokeandwires211 lead acid
🛑 Hi, thanks for the information. How long does it take to maintain the battery in an hour ??? And can he repair a 4-year-old battery ?? ⛔
I have the same charger and it stops charging my 100ah Lifepo4 on the lithium setting at 13.5 volts. Do you have any clue why?
Which battery do you have. Does it have a built in BMS as mine does ?
@@trailertimssmokeandwires211 It's an Ampere Time 100 ah, yes it has a BMS. I got it to 13.6 volts which is actually fully charged. What is the benefit of getting it between 14.2-14.6 volts?
@@trailertimssmokeandwires211 I used it today and now I'm charging it . I just checked it and it's at 14.1 volts and still going up.
@@DoobSac most BMS top balance the cells at 14.4 volts. Let the charger go untill it stops. If you have a shunt or an amp clamp you will see current drop after it reaches 14.4. They charge to 14.4, but after charging and disconnecting the charger it will drop to 13.8 . Then stay between 13.2 and 13.8 for most of its capacity. Take a look at Battle Born battery voltage vs state of charge table. It should be similar to yours. How long have you been charging it ?
@@trailertimssmokeandwires211 Does the NOCO keep charging even when the LED light is solid green? It quickly went down to 13.7 after I turned the charger off.
Can I charge my Anti Gravity Lithium Battery (Ag-1201) 12cell with this?
Looks like your battery has a max charge rate of 8 amps and the voltage of this battery may be a bit higher than a typical RV lithium replacement like I am using. Also your battery does not have a BMS which can make charging incorrectly more dangerous. I would recommend using manufacturers recommended charger. Cheers, Trailer Tim
