You can see a little of what is going on on Lewa right here. From baby rhino wallowing in mud, to school children singing, to scientists and rangers moving elephant and rhino across the African savannah, its all here! Enjoy!
This is the work of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy - a leading model for community conservation - where conservation is a development strategy and development is a conservation strategy. Lewa has been effective in increasing the black rhino population, combating poaching and helping to address some of the major needs of partner conservancies in East Africa.
Likewise, Lewa has been effective in educating children and offering adult literacy programs, providing health care in under-served rural communities and supporting water and livelihood programs.
From advanced veterinary care to schools and health care to species protection, Lewa has become an example of money well spent in conservation - humble at is core but highly effective!

12 Rhinos Translocated from Lewa
In a whirlwind of action, the Kenya Wildlife Service successfully relocated 21 eastern black rhinos from Lewa (12), Ol Pejeta (6), and Nairobi National Park (3) to Loisaba in Laikipia County. This number harmonises perfectly with Loisaba’s carrying capacity, which is deemed suitable for up to 40 individual rhinos. The aim is for the rhinos to breed naturally and reach maximum capacity.
The translocation is in line with Kenya’s National Black Rhino Action Plan, which advocates for the establishment of new protected areas to provide more space for these endangered animals.

Lewa is a conservancy in northern Kenya. We practice community-centric conservation - meaning we work with local communities to make sure people and wildlife can thrive together in Kenya's wild landscapes. Our particular focus is in northern Kenya - and we work with all wildlife but have been active in restoring the population of black rhino and Grevy's zebra to a healthy population. We also wo...

African human heroes make sure gods and his animals are protected.
Huge thanks to all the team at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, KWS, Rhino conservation partners and the Kenyan Government for all working together to relocate and conserve Rhinos in Kenya. This is a Conservation success story and it is so positive for the Rhinos and the National Parks of Kenya. . From a population of less than 400 in the 1980s to nearly 1000 living wild in Kenya now, hopefully this is the start of a recovery in their numbers. Kenya is leading the way in Rhino conservation and I applaud and thank everybody involved in this project. It shows you that the tide can be turned and there is hope for the Rhinos. The long term plan in Kenya is to have over 2000 black rhinos by 2037. This will hopefully be achieved. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy has been one of the leading conservation partners of this project, which also involves Ol Jogi Conservancy, Borana Conservancy and Ol Pejeta Conservancy. They are all dedicated people and all have a long term vision to protect and increase the number of Rhinos in Kenya. The Battle to save Rhinos continues especially in South Africa, where large numbers of Rhino are being killed by poachers and still has a huge problem with stopping poaching. Rhinos are a iconic species for Africa and the whole world. If we cannot Save the Rhino then we cannot save anything. Hopefully we can achieve this. Please support them and Rhino Conservation in any way you can. Thank you.

Giraffes can't lie down long at all because their blood pressure, blood flow wont reach their brain due to their long neck. So work or tranqulized transport must be done very quickly to avoid brain damage. 3:52
