These beautiful and powerful sculptures were created with the intention of raising awareness of endangered species. The work was done alongside ZSL (London Zoo), a zoo which is known worldwide for it's huge conservation and rewilding efforts. Many animals who are involved in breeding and release projects have passed through, or been born at London Zoo. All of the animals on the bicycle are endangered, some more so than others, as a direct result of poaching, habitat loss, poor education in countries like Africa and China, meaning superstitions around animal parts such as rhino horn, tiger claws and ivory having various bogus health benefits, and being used in religious rituals means poaching is still rife, poor education and funding of farmers in Africa, meaning many predators such as the critically endangered cheetah and spotted hyena who prey on livestock are killed each year, and on top of it all, human induced climate change is making many once flourishing habitats into inhospitable wastelands. We owe animals, we owe them a planet, we owe them somewhere safe to call home, and we owe them as much help as possible to boost the numbers of their species and punish humans involved in poaching and the illegal trade in wildlife, including the illegal egg collecting and wild caught exotic pets trade, much more harshly. Humans have a lot to answer for.
