I’m lucky enough to have heard Duke Ellington live in the 1960s. Right from the first notes your arrangement has that Ellington sound and feel. Love it.

Honestly with these fantastic improvisations I can never use the metronome for help, it doesn't help because he is on his own time signature and mode.

@@michaeljohancsik yes! Its really one of those learn it, memorize it, then input the time changes via each verse/lick he does to where it matches up with his implications. He's probably his own religion to, I remember his ...mh I'll have to find it, super fun to play. Ah, its called Oleo which he played in 1958, his improvised solo is remarkable.
the articulation style he uses towards the end at mm. 122-124 is so interesting. I've been listening to that spot over and over. thank you for the great transcription!
Yeah! kind of impossible to notate all the subleties of the articulation but this whole era of Newk is fantastic for that stuff.
