Who's the third in the photo? Horowitz, Glazunov, and
Maybe Milstein
Amazing. Inimitable VH.
Fascinating VH. Interesting programming. Thanks for upload.
Sorry for the late upload! I got a new job, and it was a little exhausted. Needed to change my life balance. I think I had fit in a little, and will make some uploads. Thanks for waiting
Thank you! Bravo on the new job.
Thanks!
Congrats from me too. Worth the wait! Although I know perfectly well that there’s no “greatest”, given the different strengths of so many pianists and their miraculous playing of some pieces - still when I hear musicianship, fingers, ears, tone and technique like this, I think it could ultimately only be Horowitz.
❤❤❤
That Vers la Flamme tho... Is this specific recording on Spotify?
Nope. Only Haydn Sonata and Chopin Fantasy is Officially released in Album (The Private Collection presented by Carnegie Hall), and others are Private Unreleased Recordings. More information about this recording is at my Community, uploaded in 4 weeks ago. (starts about Lossless audios)

VH is not my PIANIST but this recital is incredible and MAGICK (with the K, not casual...)
It sounds like it's in G major not Gb.
yep please read my short inscription about that
This was the period when he was doing sudden explosive fortissimos and sudden pianisimos. I have hundreds of sublime performances by Horowitz - judging by the aggressive Rachmaninoff, this was not one of them.
No quieren poner el traductor. 😮
No. lo. saben ni idea 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
👏🏻🔥
From what I know there is a note in the manuscript from the editor stating the piece would be transposed in g major and the time to cut time instead of doubled cut time (8/4) which is where the g major thing started. I think it’s too “serene” in g major personally, for as much as this piece obviously is meant to be serene, I feel like there’s a note of melancholy and heavy heart that is better expressed in g flat.
What a photo.😂
Inimitable VH
Never surpassed as a player of Scarlatti on the piano...

Wunderbares Spiel😌
Would love to have been at this recital. Inimitable VH & Scriabin. Or at the recital VH performed Scriabin PS9 absolutely on Fire.
Magnifique
There is some misunderstanding of this recording, such as this G major playing is a arrangement by Horowitz. But this is not true, and at the 19th century and early 20th century, most of the edition knew that this piece is composed in G major, not G flat. Editions such as Liszt's edition used G major rather that G flat major, and lots of pianists recorded this piece in G major, such as Richter. But people soon knew that this piece was composed in G flat major, and played like that. Horowitz played this piece in G flat major after 1962. But personally, I like this piece played in G major rather than G flat major.
Sorry for the late upload. I had some hard time in real life. Wish you have a good time with this video!
Something's wrong with the Schumann Fantasy. After the coda of the second movement it goes back to the beginning.
Thanks for telling. I fixed it
@@Vladimir_Horowitz My pleasure!
Could you please unearth the one recital where he played Prokofiev's 8th sonata?
There is no record of that. Some people thinks like that, but it is a wrong information. Carnegie Hall recorded that recital, 1945 April 23, under Horowitz’s expense. Like other Yale Collections. But Horowitz damaged that recording (seems like accident) and would be never release.
@@Vladimir_Horowitz The sonata is about 30 minute long; he would have accidentally have had to destroy 5 or 6 acetate discs accidentally - highly unlikely. Plus, parts of the recital were broadcast (e.g. Brahms waltz), so there is most likely a second source for the rest of the program.
There were no broadcast of that recital as I know. If you have the broadcast of that Brahms Waltz and Sousa Stars Strips Forever, please contact me at email. v.s.horowitz@gmail.com
Could you identify the people jn the photos?😮
according to the other comment, 3rd from left is Pavel Kogan, friend and manager of both Horrowitz (far left) and MIlstein (2nd from left) at the time. The one on the right is Alexander Konstantinowitsch Glazunov - the famous composer.
At his most demonic 😮
Outstanding pianism!. Thanks for posting these treasures from the 1940s. I believe VH was really at a peak of form at that time, in full command of all means of expressiveness to convey his intentions. On a side note, listening to his incredible Kabalevsky rendition, I cannot but wonder what a recording of Prokofiev's "War Sonatas" would have been (we know that he premiered the 3 Sonatas in the US, but only recorded the 7th) - sigh...
Horowitz must have been a contemporary of Kabalevsky
Inimitable VH. Lucky for music history that VH recorded his lifelong Journeys with some Masterpieces several times….
11:06 and these desperate last chords
10:26 thurst, you said ... ? This is more than desire ........
My favorite piece
Thanks a lot for all your incredible posts ! Could you also give us more informations about the beautiful pictures illustrating these broadcasts please ?
As I remember, it is a picture of Horowitz and Milstein when there were at Russia. Don’t remember who was the other two

As much as I love and admire Horowitz, I find this really awful.😕
I have no idea what is awful in this recording. 1st theme, and the 2nd theme is perfect. There are some issues on the inner voices at climax, but it became better in the coda. I can say this is more better than the famous 1968 version. But I prefer 1976 February 22 version more than any ballade no. 1
