A Day in the Life of Vintage Classic Specialist, Episode 294, the 69 Cal Look fuel system is done!
I came in today, Saturday, and worked part of a day with the goal of finishing the 69 Cal Look bug's fuel system. I got the gas tank all installed and plumbed in to the filler and the hard fuel line up front and plumbed from the hard line to the pump and then the carbs out back. It's getting closer!

Today I continued working on the Baja to get it running right. After trying many things, it turned out to be undersized jets that were mislabeled. I also adjusted one of the headlight brackets to prevent the tire from hitting the headlight mounting post when turning. I did a front end alignment on the Cal Look bug too. #vintageclassicspecialist #36horse #25horse #splitwindow #splitwindowvw #kar...

    Those fiberglass shells are never perfect fit and SO stiff. He did a great job mounting that body to the chassis 👍🏻 it’ll be interesting to see how the drilled Venturi works. Since you had contaminates in the fuel I wonder if something is blocking the line from the tank? Have you blown back in to the tank through the line and see what happens? Maybe it will kick something out? Weird man, so weird. Here’s another thought. Put a fuel container in the back of the bug and pull fuel from that to the carbs bypassing everything else. If it fixes it then you got a restriction somewhere.

      Thanks Stew! Yeah, its good to get back in the swing of things and be around Rafa and Jacob again. No big deal on the door handles, I've seen issues like that before and knew pretty quick where to look for the issue. Jacob's car is running great, and he's been driving the piss out of it! 👍

    You are definitely "Mr One-Piece Window" now! It's a pity the kits are so poor and that you have to go to all this extra work to sort it out. I would always keep the vent wings, but I suppose for the cal-look and this Baja, that would look very wrong! Great job and great video!

      Thanks Robert! On certain cars they just look right for sure. Especially split window bugs, which came with them!

    Nice! I was hoping you'd do a how to. Is the inner strip simply fuzzy weatherstripping? What thickness? Do you attach it to the door alone or onto one of the kit's metal strips and then to the door with the plastic rivets? Thanks, man. Love the channel.

    Most folks seeing a resto-mod like this as they walk a car show, never realize the huge amount of detail work and test fitting required to produce a car of this quality. I'm deep into my own '52 turbo Zwitter 5-speed build and pan/drive train have already been trial-fit a dozen times in the rotisserie body. 🙂 Mark

      Turbo Zwitter... awesome! 👌 I agree, the mockups and trial fitting take up a huge amount of time, and people who don't do builds themselves would have a hard time imagining just how long it takes.

    Very complicated and lots of decision making. But the double cabs engine, and compartment are looking bitchin ! Hands of gold my friend…..thanks, Rick….. 🌴

      Thank you Rick. I'm pretty happy with how it's looking sp far! Still a lot of stuff to go in there with the AC system though, it's probably going to be a bit of a challenge for it not to look cluttered. I'll do my best though!

    It's looking good at this trial stage. I like the symmetrical fitment of the various valves to give a pleasing look. I wonder how much will be visible once everything is in, including the aircon? It is really interesting to watch it all coming together!

    • @VintageClassicSpecialist
      @VintageClassicSpecialist 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks Robert. A lot of this stuff probably won't be visible, or at least not noticeable once everything is in.

    That is your IAC(idle air control) valve on the left. Will the stock apron fit with that header? If I remember correctly, they dip down around the motor in that area compared to a pre-68 split bus apron.

    • @VintageClassicSpecialist
      @VintageClassicSpecialist 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, I know what it is. 👍 Supposedly the header will work on a bay window 🤞

  • @S2NAZ
    @S2NAZ 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Yeaaaaa the motors in the DC… almost! 😂 Could you fancy up the black hoses with some braided hose? Hey, does that air mix solenoid make noise at idle? If so it might be magnified bolted to the fender 🤷🏼 Good for you on hangin in there and pushing forward. I’m starting to think everyone absconded you 😁 Have a wonderful weekend 😁👋🏻

    • @VintageClassicSpecialist
      @VintageClassicSpecialist 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks Stew. Yeah, getting there! I'm not sure about the idle air valve and how noisy it is. If its loud I'll add some rubber to the mounting to dampen it 👍

    What sensor is being used in the fuel pump block-off plate?

    • @VintageClassicSpecialist
      @VintageClassicSpecialist 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's coolant temperature, which in our case is oil temp. Being on the top of the case like that, it relies on oil mist/splashing to read. I dont think it has to be terribly accurate, I'm guessing it mainly tells the ECU when the motor is stone cold so it can richen up the mixture a bit.

      @VintageClassicSpecialist gotcha. I've seen the dub shop install their's on a cylinder head rather than the block.
