    Nevertheless Stevens was a good player he also was a big DIRTBAG on the ice, going for the heads of other players, without hesitaging to injury them. Lindros and Kariya hit... both hits were actually carrer ending hits.

    Doesn't take skill to blindside, headhunt or cheap shot players, often when either not having the puck or several seconds post a pass. Also, bailed out of every fight, grabbing & holding like a pussy - this guy is a total POS by any standard. His scumbag version of playing hurt the game - early retirements for actually skilled player such as Kariya.

    Checking is part of the game, and sadly it’s all but gone. Btw I don’t remember anyone calling it the dead puck era. The left wing lock was popular with some teams but not the entire league. And there were a ton of elite goal scorers when Stevens played.

    • @5ch3nk
      @5ch3nk 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Checking is still part of the game. It's just around the mid-00s the league started to really crack down on headshots to help protect the players from concussions. With modern replay it's near impossible to get away with the stuff Scott used to do, and that's a damn good thing.

      @LarryDanaDavid 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @ I watch a game everyday having ESPN+ and checking is not part of today’s game. It’s a bunch skaters flying around with minimal set plays. It’s tournament Olympic style hockey, which is not physical and less exciting.

    Tbh most his hit were clean even by todays standards. Elbow tucked in, feet on ice, led with shoulder and harldy ever made head contact. People love to cherry pick the lindros and kariya hits to say otherwise. Anyone that grew up watching him on a regular basis knows he wasnt dirty. Messier, Tucker, Domi, Kasperitis those were dirty players very different

      @@5ch3nk You were allowed to contact the head with the shoulder at this time. That means that by definition these weren't dirty hits. He never lead with his elbow. And he never left his feet. This style of play may offend your tender sensibilities but Stevens played completely within the rules of the time.

But not dangerous like crazy (like fucking Gordie How assholeè that guy was just plain fucking mentally unstable). I remember other players like Dion Phaneuf, Kasparaitis, Blake, Ludwig and the list goes on and on. I'd like to see McDavid play in this era... I can garantee you that he wouldn't have half the points he's getting in this ballerina league... BTW, this era, it was exactly in those days that Mario Lemieux used to play!

    I’m Devils fan, but I feel we shouldn’t glorify people like Scott Stevens. Yes, he was a great player, but he was a great player for a time long since gone. The reality is players like him don’t belong on the league anymore. Knowing what we now know about CTE, this style of play is unthinkable, and downright dangerous. Also, no one wants to see their favorite, star player get absolutely destroyed by a career ending hit. Scott Stevens’ legacy is a relic of the past, and should stay that way.

      No. Lots of big hits still happen. The difference is you're not allowed to hit late or embellish a hit to a player who is being blindsided- like exploding up and through to make sure you hit his jaw. Scott Stevens never played an honest day of hockey in his life. He was coked up, juiced out and made most of his impacts doing things that would be illegal today for good reason. Because owners and fans want to see 10 million dollar players play the game, not the domestic abuse man get away with even more things because authorities refuse to stop him.

We were very blessed with incredible goaltenders back then, Roy, Hasek, Brodeur, Hextall (who was a little more well known for his temper then his goaltending, but still had skills), now team Canada has to resort to Samuel Montembeault for goaltending, that's quite a far cry from the old days! Team Canada back when i was a kid had Patrick Roy, backed up by Martin Brodeur. lol. You know ur goaltending is crazy good when u have Brodeur as a back up! lol. I think Brodeur even started in a couple, if im not mistaken, it's was a long time ago! lol, and my memory isn't what it used to be, which was never great to begin with!!! lol.
