I found some cool comics at 2nd & Charles in Fayetteville, NC, as well as some very tempting mystery boxes! But were they any good??? Check out what happened. Also, I just had to share the awesome artwork that my daughter made for me.

My Comic Book Hobby has Gotten Out of Hand!

I realized late in 2022 that, after getting back into the hobby of comic collecting earlier in the year, I had let the hobby get in the driver's seat. It's awesome to have hobbies, and comic collecting is a lot of fun, but I am learning that they can easily take over too much of your life. I hope this video helps start up some good conversation!

Here's my personal method for removing sand spurs out of a grass lawn, based on years of trial-and-error fighting with this unpleasant plant! I hope this helps you remove these from your lawn and avoid getting stuck.

Hello I’m wondering how to identify sand spurs in the spring? I want to dig them up now before the spurs form in late summer.. do they have reddish roots?
I don't really see them in the spring. But there is a reddish tint along the shoots sometimes that can help distinguish from your grass.
Wow! I lived in Greenville, NC during the early to mid 1970s, and I was a frequent visitor to the Nostalgia Newsstand (then run by Charles Lawrence), when it was on, I think it was Dickinson Ave... it's been quite awhile guys. But great to see how the shop has grown, and obviously relocated. Very, very cool to see this!

Haha, go find you an Ollie's! Hopefully your local store has comic packs. Not all locations stock them.
A hair pick or a fork works like a hairbrush at separating the long runners that extend from center.
My land is only one acre, I have been fighting sandburs for years. The land here in the north of the Argentine pampas is very sandy and poor in nutrients. It is a non-native species here! Can you believe that someone with a very strange sense of humor brought it? Many people have told me that the best way is to water continuously, raise the seeds and fertilize the soil. I still can't do it......greetings!

@@JLongNC After doing a little research, the plant is present in many countries on the American continent. It is difficult to know how it arrived, it is undoubtedly an invasive exotic species. I'm making good progress with cutting and harvesting. I hope it improves with time.

No, I believe the ownership has changed hands, but the business has been in operation for that long.
Hopefully you fixed your lighting issue. WAY too bright. It washes everything out.

I have gotten a few Ollie's packs and made some videos and grabbed a couple of the 10 packs and found some nice stuff hidden in those. Also the Ollie's here in Central Florida has a TON of Knightfall so for those looking for the breaking of the Bat you can find good stuff there.

Oh yes, sometimes we get great ones and others a bunch of Malibu and Defiant comics

Came over from Neil's shoutout. That's a bummer about the mystery box. It's stuff like that that makes me question if the mystery box is still a call we should answer.
Dude, I was upset when I opened those boxes! But the manager did me right with the return. I think I'll stay away from mystery packs where I have zero idea what's in there.

I really enjoyed the art at the end! I know what you mean about the mystery boxes, my wife likes to get the bargain bin store versions of the mystery box. You pay $50 dollars and yes technically there's $50 dollars worth of phone covers and random stuff but no goodies xD My good friend Neil shouted you out!
Yeah, any kind of bargain box or grab bag is a gamble for sure, but the thrill of opening can be a lot of fun.

I've never had much luck with the ollie's comic packs. I'm new to your channel I gave you a sub and I put together a shout-out that should help you in TH-cam and you will get to know like minded collectors! Awesome to meet you !
Dude, thanks for the shout out! I am enjoying learning the ropes of making TH-cam content. As far as Ollie's goes, it seems to depend on the store and the day. Luckily, the closest store to me stays stocked on comic packs, so I have some decent opportunity there. But most other Ollie's further away from me in NC have been slim to no pickings.
I have sandy soil as well. a small set of metal tongs is helpful for getting the dropped spurs and also pulling at the spurs from the leaves. Before I had a tool to dig them up my tongs were helpful. Even though they were still growing from the roots I was able to minimize the amount of spurs that would have a chance to germinate. the professional weed companies didn't have any effect on them. I'm going to just keep picking them.

I can relate. I just started a channel a little over a month ago and am faced with the same questions. Your right, the fun is in the hunt and not necessarily in the comics themselves. With such a limited space, my advice would be to buy to flip and not to necessarily build a collection. You can always read them and then flip them but as collectors thats not always easy to start doing but does become routine once you start doing it. and yes it is an addiction expecially when your buying cheap like we do and not buying new books at cover prices.
What have you found is your preferred way of flipping? I have a big pile that I'm going to price out and have a yard sale soon, which has worked for me a little in the past. But I need to take the plunge into some form of online sales.

@@JLongNC oh wow... Must be seeing a lot of burs.. I've been pulling mine for 5 mins a day since beginning of June... Right now there are NONE that are seeding.. it's war man
@@brianbailey462 thankfully not yet. Burrs start up in my yard in another month or so. Unfortunately, some of my neighbors don't try to control them, so the rabbits reseed our yard every year.
@@JLongNC haha same...got the rabbits..and got the neighbor uphill who does nothing to control his.. it will be a forever problem. The seeds I think can float down here during heavy rains.. Fortunately only some sections of my yard are loaded with burs.. This year however I haven't had ANY stuck in my socks. Last year was absolutely hell.. for my cat and I

Whom might have better comic packs. Wallmart or Ollies?
The Walmart stores near me don't carry many comic packs, and usually only the dc ones. My vote where I live is Ollie's. Have you had good luck with Walmart packs?

@@JLongNC Been hit or miss posted a few bag opening on the channel. Usually the 2 covers would be Marvel/DC then middle comics would be indies I never heard of.

Hey Joshua! Very nice score. I agree with you, we really don't have many comic stores around and the closest ones are way over priced. I've always been a big spawn man, check out my front license plate next time we bump into each other, I had it made back in like '97 Finding that whole Immortal Hulk run was awesome as well as the Powerpuff Girls #1 (yes the adult jokes in that show were great lol). Wow That Miles run is very awesome find. It's awesome to see how great of condition all the comics you got were in!
A spawn fan! That's great. I'm working on a collection of early Image #1s and I'm still trying to track down a Spawn 1 for a decent price. I'm looking forward to seeing that front plate. 😁

Wow, yeah that's a lot of ground to cover! That's not a bad strategy for that much land. Hopefully your new grass will grow in nice and tight. Areas of my lawn with good zoysia have the least spurs.
Sand spurs are the worst! I've not seen them in our new yard yet but my parents yard was always wrapped up with them so I can only imagine how long it took to get your yard under control from when you first moved in. Also a great tip on how to remove them. I do think the hat turn is a vital step! Thanks for sharing your method and being awesome! I love this video!
Yeah, it was a real pain those first few years. But now it's not so bad, since we can remove them easily. Thanks for the comment!
Hey Joshua! Like you I grew up with TMNT and it still holds a special place in my heart. This is a really cool find, I've not been in Ollie's for awhile but I will be honest I never paid much attention to the book section. Next time I'm in I will have to stroll through there.
