Thank you so much!!!
You're welcome! I hope it helped you.
Wow wow wow, this was such a good video. Thank you for your kind teaching, especially about the buzzing of the lips and your tips on conscious breathing. I’ll be watching this more than once!
You're welcome. I'm glad my video helped you.
Thanks for these tips 'cause we definitely don't want to sound like we are farting from the lips 😊😊😊. Thanks, teacher! 👍
Glad I could help!
The most frightening thing or a reed player doubling on flute? C above the staff. lol
Are you talking about C3 or C4? The first C (3rd register) above the staff is relatively easy to produce with fast air and a small lip opening. The C in the 4th register, however, requires a very different fingering and much faster air-both of which can make it very challenging.
Such an amazing help! God Bless You!
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
Can you do all state 11-12th technical piece
Working on it!
Just posted it!
Technical one I mean!
I'm in the process of recording those right now! Thanks for asking.
Just posted it today. Check it out!
that beginning was freaking amazing, very beaultiful sound
Thank you very much!
please I don't understand what you mean by low register and high register. Can you explain.
The low register are the lowest notes that can be produced on the flute--from the low C one line below the staff to C in the staff. The high register are the highest notes the flutes can produce. They sit above the staff--from C to the top C. The full range of the flute is 3 1/2 octaves.
I just discovered your channel and subscribed. Your playing is delightful! When I first took up flute at 17 years of age, one of the books my teacher had me get (for duets) was the canonic sonatas. I have not played them in years but plan to locate them in my arsenal of music and work them up again with a flutist friend. Thanks for sharing your video.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for subscribing!
Great coordination, Enjoyed your video, Subscribed. Thank you very much. 🌷🌹👍🌹🌷
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you. Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
❤
thanks for explanation
You are welcome
Gorgeous sound!!!
very good playing 👏
Thank you! We had fun making the video!
Please I d like know where I can sell this du et and others un the same style
This piece is in a collection of duets by Mike Mower. The book is called: Blowing a Storm, 17 Progressive Duets for 2 flutes
Love it!
So glad! Thanks!
Wow you can play so fast, but your long nots sound so good to!!
Thanks for listening
Very good and interesting. Is it possible to get this? Thanks and best regards, Drago
If you kept making these flute tutorials, you could make your channel go huge! Seriously though, this is too helpful to describe!!!!!
Thanks so much. I hope to make more of these in the future!
this is the most helpful video i’ve found on 3rd octave, thank you so much
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found it helpful!
My teacher told me not to wrap my upper lip in front of the flute
I'm not quire sure what you mean by "wrapping your upper lip in front of the flute", but if what your teacher is telling you works, then I say keep doing it! :-)
I was buzzing like 24/7 and practically blowing raspberries hehe
Lol, yeah blowing raspberries is fun, but certainly not when you're trying to play high notes on the flute. ;-) Make sure your airstream is fast and steady, your jaw open and relaxed, and your lips are out of the way!
Lol yeah, thanks a lot!! 😇
너무너무듣기좋아용~~♡
Thank you!
Very helpful, thanks. I'm a sax player currently trapped below high C, but otherwise I'm doing ok. Thanks for the site and app tips. I will now climb up a couple more steps.
Thank you, so much!!! I have been struggling with getting a good and clear sound playing a high E flat. This really helps me a ton! Thank you!!!
This was a very well presented video full of little gems of advice. Thank you!
Thanks so much for the compliment!
Excelente informacionn para los.estudiantes
I hv terrible register on the 3rd G#
I’m sorry to hear that. Check your fingering-have you lifted your left hand thumb and index finger? High G# is a stubborn note to produce (like high E) so make sure you support your airstream well and try to avoid pinching your lips to get the note.
that's so helpful ! thank you so much !
Waww thanks so much for this video!! It was very helpful. So much great tips!
Thanks for commenting and you're very welcome! Enjoy those high notes!
A happy new year from Tokyo, Ms.Larsen. I learned a lot from your lesson, which answered all my questions about high tones. I’m still struggling, to find a way, but you gave me the clear direction. As a senior near-retirement person, I really appreciate your gentle way of speaking. Thank you!!
You're very welcome and Happy New Year to you!
Came across your video with hardly any theoretical knowledge but have come to realise that I'm already playing in the third register! I am up to an Ab, which I am pleased with but for some reason, I never thought that I was playing this high! You've impressed me with the skills I seemingly already had haha
Congratulations Erin! I hope you make it to high C, Db and D!
@@bethlarsenflute3117 made it up to the third register bb without difficulty!
Thank you so much, I have real problems with throat tension, I'm a piano and violion teacher but on flute I'm an absolute beginner and I get so frustrated because I want a great sound instantly! so I am tense. Your tips on opening the throat have helped more than anything I've watched and also the advice on embouchure is fantastic.
You're very welcome!
I was struggling terribly with my third register G until I realized I was using the wrong fingering. I knew all my fingerings but overlooked G thinking it was the same, the whole time I was pressing the Bb key and the sound wouldn’t come out. Thank you for helping me realize!!
Glad I could help! Keep on practicing!
Beth, I'm a very new composer and I am wondering how long you can play without a rest? I need tips from a flutist on what is reasonable and what is possible. Do you have breathing techniques that allow you to take short breaths when you have an extended passage?
I'm hardly an expert, but the length will vary a bit. I hit my limit by the end of something like "we're walking on the air". The long notes are ok on their own, but as a whole there's very little recovery. So bear that in mind as well. Techniques, well I don't know if there are others, but circular breathing definitely doesn't work with flutes 😊
late response, but as a flutist personally i am working a piece that has a slow tempo + i only rest for 4 counts in the beginning of the song. i'm playing the rest of the song. there aren't a lot of tied notes but depending on who you're wanting to have play your music piece, you may have to shorten long notes. younger flutists don't usually have the ability to hold out good long notes
How long one can play without a rest varies from person to person. Typically beginners can only play for about 6 seconds before running out of air. Depending on the note, tempo and dynamic, I can typically make it to about 40-60 seconds (at 60 bpm). Yes, I have breathing exercises that I do before practicing that help expand my breath capacity and that are also designed to help with taking in maximum air in a short amount of time. Swimming helps too! Playing the flute is definitely an aerobic activity! Thanks for commenting.
@@Merip1214 Circular breathing does work on the flute, but it does take a considerable amount of time to learn since we have no reed or mouthpiece to hold back the air.
My octave 2 b flat won’t come out any tips?
Check if you're using the correct fingering. If you're talking about the first Bb above the staff and you're fingering it Left hand: thumb, 1, Right hand 1 and pinky and it doesn't come out, your flute may be leaking. Try the "short" fingering for Bb: Left hand thumb on top part of thumb key and right hand 1st finger and pinky down. If your flute is leaking, that fingering may fix it. If that doesn't work, try using a faster airstream and directing it more across the hole. I'd need to see and hear you play in order to properly diagnose whether the problem is with the flute or with you. Contact me for a Zoom lesson at: bethlarsen82@gmail.com
The third register is unknown territory for me
Well, I hope my video has helped make the third register a bit easier for you to conquer!.
Thank you ma'am for sharing.
My pleasure 😊 Thank for watching my video!
Beautiful! I have only been playing for 6 months. I am a pianist but always wanted to learn the flute. I am self-teaching myself and am currently working on developing a good sound in the third octave. Thanks for the tips and video.
You're welcome. I hope these tips help you! One piece of advice since you've only been playing 6 months: work on getting a focused tone in the low and middle registers first as well as do some practice on harmonics to learn lip strength and flexibility. If you'd like some help one on one, I teach online private lessons. You can reach me through my webpage: www.thelarsenflutestudio.com
Thank you so much im going to focus on doing these things while practicing high register, its really hrd for me to do E and up but this has helped me and i hope to become a better player thank you again :)
You're so welcome!
this is the best explanation I have found on this topic! Thank you so much for making this video and sharing this experience and information 💚
Thanks so much! Please feel free to share the video!
TYSN TYSM TYY SMMMM THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU HELPED ME SO MUCH IM LITERALLY SO SO SO HAPPY RN IM JUST 13 AND EVERYONE IS DISAPPOINTED IN ME EVEN MY FLUTE TEACHER
You're very welcome. You're searching for answers---that's good! Believe in yourself, keep practicing and asking questions of your flute teacher. Stick with it! Progress can sometimes seem slow, so be patient and positive and you'll eventually hear improvement! Best wishes!
I struggled in the high register for so long time, it always goes too sharp in my most relaxed way to blow. But if I control it, I’m so tired and not loud. How can I fix this problem?
There are so many things that go into playing well and in tune in the third register. Without seeing and hearing what you're doing, it's tough to diagnose the problem. I'm happy to offer more specific advice through an online lesson. Contact me through our website: www.thelarsenflutestudio.com
Thanks!
Great video, as a flute teacher myself I have learned a lot. Thank you.
My pleasure! Glad my video was helpful! Beth
@@bethlarsenflute3117 I have been trying out a few of your ideas. They work well for the top register. Thank you.
