After I replaced the bearings, the airbag and auto skid symbol appeared on the car's dashboard, I imagine this came from the replacement and I'm sure I didn't damage the sensors, is there anything to do?
probably an abs speed sensor issue. May have pulled/pinched the abs speed sensor wire or the connector isn't plugged in right. Also unbolt and pull out the sensors themselves and check that they aren't damaged or dirty on the ends, look down in the hole where the sensor goes and spin the cv axle to see if any of the pickup area is covered or rusted off
I remember i had a bad wheel bearing on one of my vehicles..i did exactly as you did, grabbed the coil spring and rotated the wheel. You can definitely feel the grinding of the bad wheel bearing through the coil spring. Sure fire way to find which one is bad 👍
Your a champ. Thanks.
That’s how I was taught also never fails
good lessons to learn and for us to pass on!
Am going to tackle this job soon. Very informative video! Thanks
good luck and hope this helps get your Taco back on the road safe and quiet again.
Great mentor,thanks
Thanks, if you can get past the wig!
u are awesome 😅 thanks bc tweezers wouldn’t work - goodness
yeah, when I learned that, I had to pass along because you're right, it can be a booger to get it with other means.
I have a question. I just redid the head gasket on my sister-in-law‘s Ford edge 2017 2.0 eco-boost. I put everything back together and I went to start it. It started up ran for about 30 seconds. I got out of the car with the key fob in my pocket. It has some sort of safety feature that cuts the vehicle off. When I went to cut the vehicle back on it acted like a dead battery. So I put a brand new battery in it, and having the same issue. And it’ll kind of fire up quick for about half a second and then starts dragging and then acts like the battery goes dead. But the batteries fully charged. Do you think this would be the starter? Or do you think maybe something with the timing? I made sure all the timing was correct. I used all the correct tools. I just know it’s acting weird, I’m able to turn the engine over by hand no problem. And like I said, it ran 30 second like new. Thank you in advance.
not a starter issue, sounds like either the fuel pump or pressure it's supplying would be worth looking into
@@joyofwrenching today I put a new starter. The old starter I tested and it was bad. The vehicle has been sitting for a few years. So now I can get it to turnover no problem, but I cannot get it to start. I’m assuming it’s gonna be a timing issue?
@@ghostofsoufeasthoustone if you got the timing waaay off maybe, but still probably a fuel issue, try spraying some starting fluid into the throttle body while cranking and see if it tries to run
Thank you for making this video, it’s been driving me insane trying to figure it out, and lo and behold this did the trick. Much appreciated
yay! glad this was your fix, and better yet, doesn't cost anything. Now you can fix your buddies cars for a fee when theirs act this way.
So it was the thermostat all along!😂 thanks for the tip! And the video! Oohhh and remember to use oem parts, not off brand crap!
yes, most of the time oem is best.
..thanks guy...this is exactly what i needed to do..made my day...yes..i subbed...looking for more great videos from you...
Thanks so much, and I'm so glad it was the fix for you too!
Thanks for the info! In gonna try this myself and see if the clunking stops😂
hope you get to the root of the issue quickly, and good luck!
Not at high speed. Heats at HIGH LOAD.
@19 sec mark. My knowledge says collapsing lower radiator hose. H2O pump creates more suction at hey speed causing hose to suck in restricting water flow.
another good bit of knowledge for us to tuck away. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks man, you just saved me $400 in repair costs. My blower motor gave up, thanks to this video, I was able to buy a new one and put it in myself.
Glad to be of service and good on you for taking the initiative to fix it yourself! Now go use that money for something more important!
my screw didn't fall out, it's still in there, and advice?
Sorry, I'm not sure what might be your issue without seeing the truck in person.
It could be the latch presenter itself, moisture gets inside and makes the spring rust causing the button to stop working. This happened on my rear doors. Here's the part number for the drivers front 68014957AB and passenger front 68014956AB can get them on quadratec for ~$90 each
I thought this was channing tatum😂
Good video, but a bit too long. Spoiler alert 🚨it was the thermostat.
yes, when showing all the different ways some people say to fix this issue first, it got long for sure
Not wasting time watching. Saw in comments it was thermostat. That is correct. The 3.6 will only like OEM or Mahle brand that I have found in my multiple experiences with this issue as an independent tech. Motorad, Napa etc did not work. OEM was on national back order. Found Mahle ones to work fine. I think we used another aftermarket brand that worked. Can’t recall that one.
Pretty sure i have a lifter tick on my 06 sierra 4.8. Its real prominent on startup but as it reaches op temp it isnt as loud. Is this possible?
Happy little balljoints..😁
you betcha!
The first I did was change the radiator cap to a pressurized cap. The next thing I did was change my thermostat. The part costs $24 and you need minimal tools and can change in less then an hour. I didn't have to go to step 3 which would have been replace the water pump. If you are still overheating after replacing all of this the next thing would be the radiator. I went from the cheapest to the most expensive.
Good job you the man
Thanks brother!
Thank you. Helped me out a lot. 7/8/24
Glad to hear it!
Two thermostats in 90k miles.
way too common!
Great knowledge
12:17 i can smell that grease through my phone 😂
Ok, the screw isn't missing on mine and it still won't work from the outside. Any advice?
It's probably the latch presenter, mine went bad on my rear doors. Changed them out and have had no problems since. Here's the part numbers for the drivers front 68014957AB and passenger front 68014956AB got them on quadratec for ~$90 each
@grogglepus I dont know the name of all the components, but there was a small torsion spring inside that broke. The latch would work in one orientation, but I had to have it out of the door and turned sideways for the piece to fall the correct way and catch the lever just right. I managed to find it for $80 at Advance. Shame. One spring, and the whole thing is riveted together so it would be a PAIN to take apart and repair the spring.
@BlackthorneBuilds yeah that would be the latch presenter, it's what the button in the handle hits to open the door, a pain to replace because you have to disassemble the whole door
Thank you
you're welcome
5.3 Silverado here. My tick sounds like a grandfather clock-slow and steady. But also my rpm needle revvs ever so slightly and can hear a type of “gallop” in the exhaust. Any ideas?
slower ticking means something with a larger diameter (think of the sound of a rock on a skateboard wheel vs one on a truck tire...you'll hear the rock on the smaller wheel tap against the ground more rapidly than the large wheel due to the circumference of travel at the same speed), as for irregular idle exhaust sounds, maybe check and clean the idle air control and/or throttle body
I found a forum with the same description as I mentioned and they said it’s the high pressure fuel filter tick. Normal
Does the 100% begin to drop already you push in or you have a gap before it start to drop?
the scan tool isn't immediate due to bluetooth and other issues in computer talking to the obd port, but I would think it should move as soon as you start pushing the tab in.
Another knockout video! At $10-15 a pop PER blade with today's outrageous inflation this hack is definitely worth a go. 3 helpful videos just today, you've earned a NEW SUBSCRIBER!!
Thanks! glad you're finding them helpful.
Another helpful video. Hopefully it's generally the same location in my 2009 2500 Suburban. My wife has been at me to change this filter forever. She's the primary driver of this vehicle.
Very informative video you've made here. I'll have to give these tips a try. I have a 2010 xb with 196,500 well maintained miles. My issue that led me to searching for a remedy is that a few days ago while running some errands is that after several short trips of shutting the car off and starting again is the traction control, vsc control and check engine indicator lights all came on in the dash. I really didn't notice any difference in the engine performance but I took the car to O'Reilly and had them scan the OBD 2. Nothing relative to the traction control or vsc sensors was indicated but there was a code relative to the catalytic convertor performance falling below specs. 420 or 402 something like that. I took the car home and disconnected the negative battery terminal and reconnected it in an effort to clear the system of those service lights. They went away but then my idle also fell to 400 rpm. Seems peculiar my idle was normal before but disconnecting my battery changed the electronic idle setting. I'll try your tips and reach back out with an update. 👌
yeah the p0420 code for catalytic performance doesn't set the abs/traction control lights, typically that will go off for a glitchy wheel speed sensor or steering angle sensor.
@@joyofwrenching thank you. This was actually the 3rd time in about a year or so this light sequence came on and I probably did have some wheel skipping. This was the 1st time I elected to try and clear the codes myself. They went out on their own 1st couple of times.
Great video sir im going to be doing this soon only im up north so im expecting mine to not go as easy. I work at Subaru and some of the techs are telling me I'll need an alignment after I perform this repair. Is this true? Or only if im replacing outer tie rods?
yeah, usually will need an alignment when suspension components are replaced.
How does this method work for a 4wd Tacoma? Wouldn't the axle impede the hub from being swung out of the way and be in the way of the ball joint press?
@@deththekid02 the axles have a lot of range of motion, so once out of the spindle you can tie them out of your way
@@joyofwrenching so the axle would need to be removed from the spindle/hub?
@@deththekid02 probably so to get the clearance for the ball joint press there
@@joyofwrenching gotcha. Thank you for your help and helpful video.
I also have a 2014 that’s doing the same thing. Overheating at highway speed. It shows 233 degrees for around 20 seconds before the fan starts bringing it down again. I have changed the thermostat, radiator, bottom radiator hose, and radiator cap. I have used the burping system that you have shown. I have taken it to a mechanic shop and had the system vacuumed and reinjected with coolant. I am now running it without a thermostat, installed a 10” auxiliary fan in front of the transmission cooler and degreased and rinsed the transmission cooler and condenser coil. It is still doing the same thing. At idle, the temperature comes down to 199 degrees. When driving highway speeds, it floats between 233 and 203 degrees. Any suggestions?
no thermostat and it's still getting too hot? restriction in front of radiator, fan blowing backwards, and or head gasket issue are possibilitites, what else guys?
Factory radiator fan is indeed blowing towards the engine (pulling air through the radiator). I’m not showing any mixture of oil in the coolant or coolant in the crankcase. Not saying that it could /couldn’t be a head gasket. Idk. It could be a restriction getting air through the transmission cooler and/or the condenser. But like I said, I’ve soaked them both down with degreaser after 5 minutes, rinsed everything off. Since I had just installed the new radiator, I couldn’t back flush the trans cooler and condenser. I thought about it too late. I’m going to put a bottle of Cool Down in the radiator and see what it does (Cool Down from O’Reilly’s). The label optimistically says that it lowers temperatures by up to 30 degrees. We’ll see.
@@johnschoolfield4595 I'm curious now to see what you ultimately find as the issue
As an add, I originally changed the radiator last August when it blew a pin hole leak on the highway coming through Baton Rouge. I bought O’Reilly’s Lifetime Warranty aftermarket radiator. Since then and all the trouble I’ve had, I reached out to them last month and they even-exchanged the aftermarket radiator with an original Mopar radiator. So that’s what it has in it now and the overheating symptoms haven’t changed.
I drove the Jeep for 2 years and never had any overheating issues till the radiator blew coming home through Baton Rouge last year. Ever since, I’ve had the overheating issues.
My 2012 doesnt pass 3/4 it only does it on the highway should i change the Tstat?
that's a tough one...only because so many people get bad replacement thermostats. I would say try replacing it as it's easy to do, keep the old one, and you can always put it back in if you suspect you get a bad replacement one.
when my thermostat failed it failed open; low coolant temperature code, got lucky on that end.
yeah you did, and that's super common too
Tell us something else this is a old old trick without an umbrella 🤪🤪
We have to remind each generation of the old tricks
Awesome videos. Thanks for making this.
Thanks for watching, and you're welcome
Correction, it’s not a problem with 3.6 engines, it’s the pre 2012 3.6 LLT v6’es that had the issues, the 2012 3.6 LFX and later engines were revised to correct the stretch issues, they do have an occasional tensioner problem, but in general its a non issue
Looks like your prius had Duralast shocks. Are they lifetime or what kind did you put on?
Hmmmm the hubs don’t usually come off that easy
